kt65 - 2012-08-12 10:20 AM John, aside from your cleats, how are you getting those big holes in your shoes??? Too much tap dancing! Nice job, yesterday, training for an IM or something?

no tap dancing or trail running in them.  those are vents.  but they sure don't help with the stink... nastiest smelling shoes of any kind that i've ever owned.  comfortable as heck though.  we'll see how long they last...

only 1000 and they look like that?  Wow.    What kind of shoes are they, i.e., brand/model?

Suzy - Tri suit the entire race or changing clothes?  I knocked 10 minutes off my T2 time in CdA and I was glad I spent some time on transitions in training.  I also trained with everything they offered on the course so that I knew my stomach could handle it even though it wasn't my Plan A.  I still think Perform is nasty but if diluted I can tolerate it.

I am currently finishing up the 6 week Ironman to Couch plan.  It was very successful.

Chet-The last two years, I have done the full change. Depending on temperature I might alter it just a bit.  I will definitely be putting on my Castelli bike shorts, but may leave on my original sports bra and throw on my bike jersey and compression socks.  T2 the change is only the shorts and the top.  I suck at transitions and have put zero time into getting better at them.  I know it's free time and they deserve attention.  I think I said the same thing last year.

I look forward to my own 2 week version from IM to couch plan.  At the moment, I am fried beyond belief.

Specialized trivents. My first "Tri" shoe. Absolutely no difference between these and a road shoe at all. Transitions, venting, drying etc.. In fact these things don't dry as fast as my sidi road shoes. Still comfortable though.

Thanks John.  My current Specialized Road shoes are going on 4 years old now and I plan on looking at Tri shoes the next time I visit the US (mid-late Sept).

I bought some of these. my tri-shoes were getting pretty beat up.

I like the boa system.

Same here, I have Lake's with the Boa system and just picked up the same specialized you posted, they are super comfy.

Last night I got up to take a leak. For some reason I've been thinking it ok not to flush lately because I'm hydrating so much. And of course the whole if it's brown it's down thing. I get back in bed. 20 minutes or so later tony the dog gets up and goes to get a drink. As I'm listening to this I think damn he's drinking my pee. Then I listen a little more carefully and it seems he's actually in the kids bathroom. Phew. But then I realized Jacy was in there and dropped a deuce. Oh man, my poor dog. Funny thing is he seemed to be taking a longer drink than normal.

Also, I was friends with this Jamaican kid in junior high. Lester Smith. Great guy! We used to walk around And say heeeeyyyyy bombaclot to people. Always thought it was so fun to say. For some reason this popped in my head the other day. So googled it and found out what it meant. Hahahahahahah! So on my ride this past Sunday I'd greet other riders with a. Heeeeeeyyyyyy bombaclot. So funny! Thankfully I didn't get into a fight! Good night now!

Suzy - I have been mountain biking with my son, walking/ training my dog, running/swimming with my daughter and mountain biking at our cabin.  It was all part of my couch plan... to mentally recover from the grueling iron training!  You have always inspired me in key points of training for big races.  I understand the fried thing but remember to just have fun on race day! The Ironman is special.

This happens every year.  I finish the final build week and want to throw my bike off a cliff. With the added intensity for this IM, the sh$t weather for my BIG DAY and the unexpected addition of REV3, it hit harder.  I know it will all melt away and the race plan will come together nicely within these remaining 27 days. Paul and I are heading to Minocqua on Friday for a week of vacation and that wil be the start of the mental prep and some good old fashioned relaxation.

I know a few of you considered REV3 Wisconsin Dells and then had plan shifts.  If you are interested in a very bearable swim, a very hilly bike and a very hilly run this course would provide that.  Not sure about the venue for everyone.  They do have a load of water parks for the kids, but it is VERY touristy up there.   I am sure next year the event will be better planned so maybe it'll be on your schedule?  I know it will be on mine.

Why, why, why would anyone think it's OK to use a commercial grade leaf blower at 12:30 AM?  I hate to complain to neighbors but I had to go over and ask him to stop.  And of course, I couldn't fall back to sleep for at least an hr AND then Alexa woke me up around 4am after keeping me up late.  Cherry on top, I got to work and realized I forgot my running shoes.  I really hope today gets better.

I'm heading on vacation next week as well and it absolutely couldn't be at a better time.  I'm completely fried and IM training has just been part of the cause.

Maybe he had really big leaves and a standard leaf-blowere would not do?

only 26 more days of fried brain syndrome. Wait until the last 2 weeks!!! You'll go crazy!

This is what I did Saturday.....still waiting on final results.....

All of the past winners and others who are veterans of the Dammit Run can
attest to the rugged nature of the 5-mile course.

The race starts tamely enough at the high school, and it will finish in the
same location. But in between, runners had best be prepared for the rocky, dusty
trip into the foothills and up to Lexington Reservoir. Runners will race down
the trail next to the high school's lower field, past Forbe's Mill onto the Los
Gatos Creek Trail and make the climb up to Lexington. Runners continue up St.
Joseph's Hill (Jones Trail), loop around and head back down the hill to College
Avenue, and race back to the finish line on the Los Gatos track.

All finishers will receive ribbons, and the top finishers in 13 different
categories for male and female runners will receive awards. The West Valley
Track Club will provide computerized results. Race day registration begins at
6:30 a.m.

The pup's name is Henry! Peeing all over the house at the moment, best one was standing on top of the lounge then peeing all down one side...

His feet are huge! He's still too small to walk to the beach - only 500m - and he still likes to snuggle up on your chest at night when you watch TV, very, very cute!!!

The MG has been too quiet, so let's yack about our favorite topic-RACING!  Is there anyone out there brave enough to get the job done this weekend?  Tell us about it!

And for the rest of us, let's talk about staying motivated.  How do you continue to move forward day after day?  and if your motivation has wandered away, how come?  maybe we can help!

No racing for moi, I was going to do an aquathlon, but it's sooooo farrrrr awaaaaaay!!!!!  (like 40 miles...and gas prices have skyrocketed!).

Truthfully, there is a brunch with friends that I'd rather do and I can get my 8 mile run with Ripley done pre-brunch and enjoy a relaxing Sunday.

Motivation.  Hmm.  I think checking in with the MG keeps me pretty motivated.  I love seeing all of us out there getting it done...and still managing to juggle and balance pretty busy lives and families!

One thing that I didn't mention was that at the Vineman HIM rolldown/awards, I was sitting right behind Sr. Madonna Buder and I got a chance to meet her and exchange a few pleasantries...I think she ended up declining her Vegas spot...she's pretty inspirational.  BUT, right behind me was the M65-69 winner and I swear he looked about 50!  Ripped and rock solid.  That's pretty motivational right there!

Good luck to any and all of our racers!  Happy vacation to our traveling MG'ers!  Aloha!
