The MG has been too quiet, so let's yack about our favorite topic-RACING!  Is there anyone out there brave enough to get the job done this weekend?  Tell us about it!

And for the rest of us, let's talk about staying motivated.  How do you continue to move forward day after day?  and if your motivation has wandered away, how come?  maybe we can help!

I signed up last minute to race this weekend in an attempt to help me stay motivated before Cross Season starts in 3 more weeks.  90 mile road race on Sunday.  Riding in the Pro wave, so it ought to be a real hammerfest all day!  Last year I understand they averaged 26+ mph for the 90 miles.

Like Kim, I also get lots of motivation from others both inside and outside the MG.  I rode last night with a 74 year old that looked 50.  Said he got sick of being fat and just started riding 9 years ago.  He was AWESOME!!!  Piggybacking on everybodies IM journeys is also great motivation and watching all the MG'ers grow as a athletes is always cool.  Knowing Ryan is always lurking seems to motivate me somehow also?  Foot in mouth

My other way to get some motivation is to buy something new.  I can't wait to try out my new tubular CX wheels and tires next week!

No racing for moi, I was going to do an aquathlon, but it's sooooo farrrrr awaaaaaay!!!!!  (like 40 miles...and gas prices have skyrocketed!).

Truthfully, there is a brunch with friends that I'd rather do and I can get my 8 mile run with Ripley done pre-brunch and enjoy a relaxing Sunday.

Motivation.  Hmm.  I think checking in with the MG keeps me pretty motivated.  I love seeing all of us out there getting it done...and still managing to juggle and balance pretty busy lives and families!

One thing that I didn't mention was that at the Vineman HIM rolldown/awards, I was sitting right behind Sr. Madonna Buder and I got a chance to meet her and exchange a few pleasantries...I think she ended up declining her Vegas spot...she's pretty inspirational.  BUT, right behind me was the M65-69 winner and I swear he looked about 50!  Ripped and rock solid.  That's pretty motivational right there!

Good luck to any and all of our racers!  Happy vacation to our traveling MG'ers!  Aloha!

She was just here in Calgary for the 70.3. Finished in just over 8hrs.

Rumour is she is going to give IMCanada one last shot.

She's got a bib.....

She missed the swim cut off last year supposedly her wetsuit was wrecked, and they got her a new one for race day. and something went wrong so she missed it. I think the year before she missed the bike cutoff.

I'm not racing this weekend.

This MG motivates me a lot. I love reading about all your journeys and races. I think I lurk a little too much.

The last week and a half I've been really bummed motivation wise. On Sunday the 4th I fell down the stairs at my sisters house. My hand got caught on the railing and I hurt my right hand arm and shoulder and my right leg.  I thought my arm was feeling a bit better so I went swimming last week and it made my arm worse. My leg is better but I'll need a little longer for my hand and arm.

No racing here.   I get my motivation from the MG, from the mirror, the scale and all those age groupers in the races that finish so much faster than I do.

Cute dog David.  Hope he gets the potty training thing down soon.  Big dogs leave big puddles.

Tiana: get that arm looked at if it is feeling worse.

No racing for me.

I'm struggling with frustration more than motivation.  I've been sick (missed almost a week and a half of training and one of my favorite races), and I've been trying to adjust to being back at work teaching full time.  The frustration is wanting to train, but either not feeling well, or not having enough hours in the day to get it done.  Tuesday morning I got up at 4:40am, and did a track workout in the dark and in the rain.  But, I guess that's what it takes to get it done.

It's also more difficult this season because the gains are not coming by leaps and bounds like they were in my first season.  I have to keep reminding myself that the improvements are happening, just at a slower pace, and then be ok with that.

Oh, and another thing (wow, it's turning into a fest--have you missed me?)....One of the pools in my area is closing and another doesn't currently have a life guard, so we can't swim.  Again, I want to swim, but it's just so complicated to find a facility and get it done.

Now, back to catching up on what I've missed.

i haven't swim at a pool with a lifeguard in three years.

Personally, I couldn't give a rip if there's a lifeguard or not, but they won't even open the pool without having one.  The lakes are already starting to cool down and I'm starting to worry about the swim training.  There's another pool at a high school nearby, but their lap swim hours are too late in the morning for me to swim and get to work on time.

I love teaching, but working just sucks in general.

P.S.  I'm in awe and feeling like a pretty big wimp after reading about all the IM training going on here and looking at some of your logs.  Holy smokes, you all ROCK!!!

No racing here, I'm swimming and biking and gradually easing back into running. I'm being very careful to avoid injury before my season starts.

I usually sign up for races to get me motivated but I'd agree that this MG motivates me too. I've found swimming much easier this Winter having seen how you all managed to keep training through your Winter!

Motivation?  Fear, the MG, and reading race reports.  I think I've read every IMMoo RR at least once.

I love the answers so far!  Some are internally motivated while others look for an external kick in the pants.

When my motivation starts taking a bit of a nose dive it is usually because of one the disciplines isn't going well.  When that happens, I focus on the progress I've made in another area and assume I can make more if I work just a little harder or a little longer.  Pretty basic I guess.

Because of some nasty thunderstorms with hail yesterday I stayed inside for my long ride.  As I looked for some dvds to entertain me I found a EN dvd (still wrapped in plastic) which I acquired from the guy who sold me his KK trainer.  Awesome tips/info on that DVD.

I am probably doing  a 1 mile swim race saturday AM and then volunteering at a local sprint on Sunday AM (it goes through my neighborhood.) Will be hosting the post-race BBQ/ pool party afterwards.

If I wasn't already signed up to do St George 70.3 I'd be tempted to do this Triathlon http://kscrocketmantri.com/ .  It would be fun to be a Rocket Man.  And a fun vacation for the kids.
