Expert 4929 Middle River, Maryland | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2023 Mentor Group - ALWAYS OPEN Hi, all. Busy week here. My wife's car bit the dust so we wound up spending a couple of hours at the dealership intending to buy a used one, but they had a buyer back out on a new one and gave us a decent deal on it so we pulled the trigger on a 2024 Corolla Hybrid SE. This isn't your father's Corolla - this thing is quick. Missed a day of training on Wednesday playing Uber driver dealing with the old car (was fixed, but not really, then was again, but REALLY not really), but Thursday and Friday went well with a tempo run and strength training one day, then a swim and Bikram Yoga the next. Now that our car saga is finally over, hoping to get back to The Plan again. Headed to Masters swim for the first time in two years here in a bit, then will come back home for about an hour on the bike or so. Hope everyone has a great weekend! |

Expert 4929 Middle River, Maryland | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2023 Mentor Group - ALWAYS OPEN Enjoy taper, Gretchen! 3500-ish in the pool at Masters this morning - absolutely perfect morning to swim outside, which I haven't done in forever other than when I'm traveling which isn't the same. Masters coach was nice to me and we randomly did a lot of short interval free which is what I can hang at. Nicole was only about 30 minutes late which apparently is early for her. Came home and tried to muscle my way through a bike workout and was kinda just cooked so cut it at about 55 minutes. Longest swim in over nine years for me. How'd your race go, 2024 Nat?? |

1943 , Kronobergs lan | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2023 Mentor Group - ALWAYS OPEN Nice swim Mike! Fast swim Gretchen. Well, I didn’t beat 2023-Nat but I was only 22 seconds slower overall so that’s a good result. Run 15:27 (3k). My goal for the run was 16:30, based on my lack of running form this season, so a very good result, I even beat my 2018 run time (15:45). Super happy Unfortunately, this was not enough for a podium this year but that’s because more fast ones entered, nothing to do with me. |

Even if you don’t do flip turns, it makes more sense to push with the legs.. Ok, bit of confusion here, mainly due to my poor choice of english. The pain in my elbow was then I was finishing a length, starting a turn. When you hit the wall with your arms out front, and bend your arms as you glide into the wall. Yes, the actual push off part is from my legs. |

And good job on getting to that swim. @Robert, Nice job getting some work in when you're away on holiday. Keep it up. @Nicole, She ran! Yay! But really half an hour late to swimming? ME, Happy with my week, my biggest once since March. This week is going to be pretty light for the first 3-4 days, I've got some work travel coming up, with another big finish. Aiming for much of the same, 1 swim, 3 bikes, 6 runs. Have a good week guys. |

Have a good week guys. Okay, in my defense 1) it's a 2 hour practice. That's a long practice! (Mike also didn't mention that he left a half hour early...sooooooooo) 2) I stayed up late watching the terribly boring opening ceremony, and then could not get to sleep after, so probably didn't fall asleep until close to 1am. My alarm went off at 6:30am, but I didn't actually wake up until 7...I tried! Way to go on the big week! I'm extra impressed b/c it's winter for you! |

2127 Baltimore, Maryland | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2023 Mentor Group - ALWAYS OPEN Nat - Congrats on the race, and way to finish strong! 5/54 is very impressive, especially knowing you were on the tail of 3 and 4! Robert - Way to go, Cowboy! Hot water is no good but glad you got it in and finished it up regardless! Mike - Great to see you Saturday! I'm glad you got to meet Joan and see that we do have a coach that is both a good coach and a nice human Pic for the rest of you! Me: Friday - Felt great after my AM run. It was a gorgeous day, so ended up playing about an hour and a half of pickleball after work. It was fun and felt really nice to be outside. I was definitely sore after, but find myself recovering faster and faster. Saturday - Got in about 3200 yds at masters Saturday. I was in a lane with a guy who's a bit faster than me, but I decided to try to do his workout, which was a bit of a push for me, but I survived and felt really good! Helped a friend move after laying by the pool for a bit, and then watched some Olympics Sunday - It was my sister in law's bday so went there and made her bfast and hung with the family all day. They all do karate and had a summer party in a park nearby, so I went to that and ended up playing some picnic volleyball for a few hours. It was fun but definitely not as serious a workout as my normal volleyball workouts. Today - I have vball league (beach) tonight so decided to take it easy this morning. I also have friends who decided last minute to come in town for the Orioles (baseball) game, so am going to try to go to that, but it will really mess with my plan of getting solid sleep and having productive mornings this week. I am probably going to play it by ear. (PXL_20240727_130650560.jpg) Attachments ---------------- PXL_20240727_130650560.jpg (2795KB - 10 downloads) |

Just a smooth ride in much cooler weather (65-70 out this morning, vs 92 during yesterday's ride). Stayed Z2 the entire time. Mike and Nat - fun picture!! Good to know I haven’t been talking to the voices in my head all this time. For me…whopping 1350 yds in the pool this morning. Felt fine, but everything is starting to creak, so I must be doing taper right! Weather in Grand Rapids is still holding at 80F and 25% chance of rain for race day. |

Well maybe not Nicole's and my voices. Solid Sunday for me with a 5.3 mile run and some yard work. 5K yards in the pool, 1.5 hours on the bike, and 13+ miles running for the week and nailed all my strength/yoga/PT/etc. goals. Day off today, then four hard days before a weekend mostly off in New York, where we'll spend the time day-drinking with some old friends of ours. |
