A sprint distance or something like that? Yes it's 3am on the east coast and I'm stil awake. My brain just won't shut off...so here I am...sigh.
Nah just a long brick next sunday with a few friends. (think I might do a quick swim before the brick) I was thinking the same thing...brick w/ a swim warm up. Wanna meet at Mirror Lake? say, 7ish? mind if I bring about 2500 of my closest friends? What say we just do it on Saturday instead? I would much rather sleep in on Sunday... |

I usually wear a visor, but a hat may be better. I have read there isn't a lot of shade on the run, is that true? Plus, with a hat, you can stuff ice in it to cool yourself off better. May have to go get a hat...and if I do, that means it will be cloudy and rainy Which do you find most comfortable? I am a visor guy unless it is REALLY cold; my wife hates them and is hat-only no matter the temp. It will not win any fashion contests, but In hot races it has not been beyond me to put my visor on upside down and put ice in the brim. And it will not be hot at LP. Everyone say it ten times... |

Correct, I would label this as nearly shade free. Once you get out onto Riverside Drive (River Road - note it is called this either way in the Athlete Guide). You will have about 4 miles of "some shade" but that is a stretch. The only hope of some shade is when the sun goes back down below the treeline... A nice side note about the run, on the way back after the turn around on Riverside Dr. you can see the ski jump - it's pretty neat to look at through the trees.

We'll sleep in on Sun. and how 'bout a campout outside the IM store Sun. night to assure ourselves a Finisher jacket. Good? Actually, at IMFL this year we waited in line a looooooong time to get in and the jackets were nearly sold out. They were taking orders and u could pay for them then and have them shipped to your house for $15. I don't recall if they kept a size of each to try on though. |

Is the line very long? Do they normally run out that quick? I would like to atleast try one on before they run out .Worst case I can order one online. I would hope they save one of every size so people can try them on before ordering. Anyone know this info???
Last year when I went to go sign up for this years race. The line for the Ironman Store was just as long as the signing up for the race. I want to say I was there around 6 - 6:30. I was really surprised how long the line was. I may have my wife stand in line that morning since I probably will not be able to walk . People seemed to go to them first. They definitely had a bunch and there was a separate table towards the check out that was taking orders if your size was not there. If I recall they did have some jackets behind the table they were using for people to try on to get there size. The other interesting thing I wasn't expecting to see that morning was thousands of people walking around like they were like 90 years old. I was wandering if I should bring a walker for the next day? Hey if we all do, we can do another race!!! |

I'm usually in the top 5 at that point, by 6am the long is over 100+ people long. Some years they let 25-30 people in at a time and some they let everyone all at once. It can be be like black Thur after Turkey day, so be prepared, know what you want, get the item you want first, then you can look at all the other stuff. Finisher jackets are the first to go, the usually have a zip up jacket, a fleece pullover, and a bike jacket and some t-shirts. They are NOT cheap, so save your money. Don't blow your budget on the stuff before the race. They only accept exchanges, NO cash returns! Good luck, I'll be the one near the front of the line sitting in a fold up chair eating pop tarts.2 QUESTIONS: do they have an aid station before you begin the run or should I have an extra water in my transition bag? to purchase a finisher's jacket I hear that people line up the next morning at 5:00am. There i a good chance that a volunteer will actually bring your bike to you and you will not even have to go to the rack. And you did not ask, but it will probably come up: age groupers cannot leave their shoes attached to the bike in T1, but you can leave them attached when you ride into T2. |
