I was also reminded as to why I normally wear a trisuit. The spot between where my shirt ends and bike shorts begins? Toasty.

hah! I toasted that spot on my back on a long ride a few weeks ago! I still prefer separate shirt & shorts, though, but will be sure to use some serious sunscreen in that area!

I rode the course on Saturday, and the wind was noticable, but not TOO bad... I think the wind was stronger yesterday. Oh well, it will be what it will be, and we'll all be riding into the same wind.

As of now, my plan is to come to MD whether I race or not, so I am hoping to meet everyone.  Since it is too late to get any of my registration money back, I don't have to make my final decision about racing until right before the raceF.

Barb,  I assume swimming is not an issue.  If you can bike, why not do that and then DNF before th run.  I know that DNFing is not how you imagined your race going, but you have trained so hard.

Or even walking, really.  There's no shame in just doing what you can do.  Just do what you can as long as it doesn't create permanent damage.  You don't have to waste your training.

If we get a repeat of last year's weather, there will be lots of walkers anyway. :-)

Thanks for the support!  Right now, I have to decide if I can handle a DNS better than a DNF.

Good advise!  I never thought about sunscreen on that spot.

From my wife: "Yeah, as I was driving away (to the outlet malls and, specifically, the Coach store) I saw that you had skin showing, and was going to say something, but I thought you would get mad at me."

Thanks hon.

I don't know if the bib numbers are out yet but I figured I'd ask.  Seeing that I will be spectating this race I wanted to try and get a list of names and #'s so I can cheer you on.

Figure its a lot better than " Your almost there", keep going" and etc.

THanks

I don't believe any of it until about Tuesday or Weds. of next week .....

You can count on this.  The water will be murky, and possibly choppy.  The wind will suck and in your face for the back half.  The biggest bump you'll have to climb is the run out of the water into transition.

Tongue out

I know it is what it is, but it makes me feel better to check it 8-10 times a day

I am just hoping for calm water.

The wind will either be in your face for the first 30 miles (up to Egypt rd.) or it will be in your face on Egypt rd to the end. It is divided up pretty equally. Either way you get help on half of the ride.

Living in North Texas, the wind is something we deal with daily. The place we do most of our riding, the Trinity Trail seems to make its own wind.  It can be a calm day in all of the DFW area, but you get to the trail and there is always a 15-20 mile hour wind.

I have come to just laugh at it and keep going.  It is not going to beat me down!!

Starting to make my lists, yes I am a bit obsessive.

I would like it to be a bit hotter than that no hills on the bike for people to totally blow themselves up on the bike so a good 88degree or so with high humidity should have the same effect. I don't want it above 90degrees though too hot for me...

Hope everyones training is going assume most are in taper? No taper for me just going to try and have a few days off next week to recover and hopefully get soem race in my legs I hope 8-)

I live by the ocean- wind is nothing for me.   I've ridden in the winds right before a tropical storm a couple of times and I raced a time trial earlier this year where there were sustained cross winds of 30+ mph and gusts close to 50 (only focus was on keeping upright).  My only concern with the wind is with the people that can't control their bike in the wind, yet insist on still riding in the aerobars and get blown into my path

My taper started yesterday. I am really just toning down the time and some intensity, however I am starting to get some taper blues. My coach says it is perfectly normal to feel really tired and crappy when you begin to taper because your body is finally getting the rest and recovery it needs. The feeling really sucks though

Taper, what's that?  Then again, for my next Ironman, I will have a two-week taper max!  I just don't do well with anything more than just a short taper/few easy days before a race.

>"Daddy the thing I was most proud of (at Columbia) you was that you were injured and still ran
>as hard as you could" My 6.5yo daughter Megan

That's awesome, Penn. Beats the greeting I got at home after Columbia:
Beaming 7 year old son: "Dad! did you win?!?!"
Me: "No. It's just about finishing and doing the best I can. I had fun!"
Son: "Were you close?"
Me: "I came in around 400th place."
Dejected frowning son: "You need to practice."

This is my first "structured" HIM training, and yeah - I feel the Taper blues already!  Seriously, WTH?  I go one week without a Long Bike and I'm instantly falling to pieces   Your coach is right - I feel tired and crappy, but oddly my muscles are not sore at all.  I feel bad for my wife kids for the next 2 weeks

And then of course there is the post-Race blues.  I suffered bad post race blues after my first HIM in R.I. last year.  But then in the fall I did a HIM and then a Sprint a week after, and the quick race right after helped me avoid any post race blues.  So this year I did the same and scheduled a Sprint for the weekend after E-man.  And the week after that I have a 4-mile road race.  And then two weeks after that I'm doing the R.I. HIM again.  Oh shoot... but aside from volunteering at LP I don't have a race scheduled until September for after R.I....  which may set me up for some nasty post Race blues.  Shoot... gonna have to find me a race

No taper here because no real plan or organized training.  Put in a few good weekend blocks of stuff, but nothing superb.  I'll probably go out for 40 or 50 mile rides each day this coming weekend if weather agrees.  Then next week will be next to nothing (new job, have to work in the evenings at the old one for some extra money and to finish off the project that got moved from when I scheduled my last day).
