Science Nerd 28760 Redwood City, California | Subject: RE: Artemis's Group - FULL! It's almost January, so it's time to start thinking about goals for the month!!! I'd like to do a mentor group challenge where each person sets at least one goal and then we track it and encourage each other to get done. Please think about what you'd like to do and post it here. There are other options for challenges that you can do at the same time. 1) The January White Sale Challenge: Set 1 - 4 goals. You'll be put on a team with other people and the final results of the challenge are by team. These are really fun!! There is usually a challenge similar to this every month, but the specifics change a little bit. 2) The January Peach Challenge: the goal for the month is just to do something every day. It can be run, bike, swim, stretch, sports, strength, etc. This happens every month now. |

For our forum here, I'd like to set two goals for myself. 1 - by the end of January I'd like to be able to swim 4 laps without stopping (ie. hanging on to the edge of the pool catching my breath). I'm comfortable at 1 lap now and am hoping I can add a lap a week... 2 - I loaded a marathon training program and have a 2 hour long run on 01/31/09 - I'd like to be able to do 13.1 miles within this two hours. When I ran my half marathon in September, I came in at 2:01...lol...so I want it. I'm signing up for a tri training program at a local YMCA, so maybe that'll help with the swimming! Can't wait to see everyone else's goals! And Happy New Year to all! |

OK - I need to come up with some goals. One is to get all my workouts in from my half marathon training plan but I also need to come up with some goal for my diet. Looking forward to seeing everyone elses goals! |

I mean, I HAVE to eat every couple hours otherwise my tummy starts growling. And I dont' think it's an issue of not getting enough calories because I haven't really been losing weight...I just don't understand why everyone else in my office seems to go from 8am-noon without eating, and I've already had breakfast, and 3 little snackies. lol. All I do it eat...do I just need to find food that's more filling? ...my snacks are usually some fruit with peanut butter, or some crackers... |

All I do it eat...do I just need to find food that's more filling? ...my snacks are usually some fruit with peanut butter, or some crackers... LOL... too funny!! I teach so often don't have time to snack and was actually told to make sure to have a morning snack when I was trying to loose my weight!!! .... but not 3 times!!! lol!! Do you drink water? I find I carry a water bottle around all the time because "they" say most of the time when you think you are hungry you are really thirsty. Also, when I did incorporate the snack... I had been at a platue for quit awhile, and I started eating a hard boiled egg. I found that protien works much better for me -- I broke through the platue and lost 6lbs right away! I find the sugar in the fruit and the GI index in the starchy crackers keeps my hunger up. ... soo... my suggestions are h2o and protien.... they work for me!! Good luck!! |

I have a feeling its because they are not working out 1-2 hours a day like you are. You are burning a tremendous amount of calories with your workout load. I know what you mean about being hungry though. I use to race bikes about 17 years ago. I would average 200 miles/week. There was times I was eating 5 meals a day. |

Regular 130 Albany, NY | Subject: RE: Artemis's Group - FULL! Kathy/Chris - I do drink a lot of water, but maybe it is the protein and not enough food...I'll make a deliberate effort next week to start packing snacks that are a little heftier with more protein than I have been getting. Hopefully that'll help me eat only once between meals, and not every hour! |

Maybe you'd do better eating 5 - 6 smaller meals throughout the day? It can help a lot if you find yourself hungry between meals. I usually end up packing healthy snacks to have during the day - one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Some other good ideas: nuts, string cheese and fruit, etc. Try to have a little bit of protein in your snacks and that will help you stay fuller longer. |

There's absolutely nothing wrong with eating more, smaller meals and snacks as long as you don't overeat. A work I try to stick to snacks like nuts and fresh fruit. |

Pro 4343 Olney, MD | Subject: RE: Artemis's Group - FULL! January Goals: I'd love to be running 5k by the end of the month but I'm trying very hard to not press and get re-injured. One thing I keep telling myself is that I should be working on flexibility and core strength so I'm going to include yoga/Pilates as a goal so that I'll actually do it. So, to keep it pretty basic: Yoga or Pilates: 5 sessions Biking: 8 sessions Swimming: 8 sessions Run/walk: 5 sessions |

Regular 58 Syracuse | Subject: RE: Artemis's Group - FULL! Happy New Year everyone (a little early...)! My goals for January: 1) At least 30 minutes swimming 3x/week (the pool is my event focus these snowy winter days) 2) Plus two "sweat worthy" workouts per week. 3) Eating out lunch at work (or takeout at home) no more than once per week. Because my biggest problems are consistency (thus the workout numbers) and working hard enough - I work hard when I use videotapes, but when I'm on my rower, it's pretty much a lazy Sunday afternoon at the park. So my goal is to SWEAT! OH! And I REGISTERED for the Iron Girl race today. So there's NO TURNING BACK! My apologies for yelling, I'm psyching myself up (I even outed myself on Facebook, so too many friends watching to fail). |

Can I be your Facebook friend? I'm doing Iron Girl Syracuse on 8/7/10 - I'm really nervous, but also excited...this group will definitely keep me honest. I've already stopped skipping workouts because of not wanting to have to admit/type that! Just haven't quite figured out how to enter other types of workouts, but I really like the log feature. Sure, friend me on Facebook (anybody here is welcome to) - Just remind me in the intro who you are, so I don't ignore it (I work at a university and don't friend students, so I do ignore some...). My profile pic here is the same, so I should be easy to find. |
