jmk-brooklyn - 2010-07-13 9:45 PM The  THe NYC Tri is this weekend. I'm looking forward to it

So how was it Jonah?

How was everyone else's weekend?

Mine was good but not great.  I had my long ride on Saturday.  The ride itself went well but it I felt tired (sleepy tired) all day.  I wonder if the heat is starting to get to me?  That's would not be normal for me but it's certainly a possibility.  It was a group ride and while I did not feel as strong as I would have liked, I was not in danger of getting dropped or anything and I did my pulls.  Yesterday was my longest brick to date.  The last two Sunday's I've had a great time with my bricks!  Last Sunday was 45-45 and yesterday was 45 minute ride, 55 minute run.  Good stuff!

I have my second Oly coming up on August 7 and the build up for this one seems to be going well <<knock wood>>.

I hope everyone else is doing well.  I think that the London tri is in about three weeks as well???  How's it going for you guys?

Howdy all!

I hope that things are going well.

Jonah, how was your race last weekend?

Londoners, two weeks from tomorrow....

Things have been going relatively for me well this week.  I have really been enjoying my longer brick workouts but I've had some issues with the bike lately.  My foot has been bothering me and aching from time to time.  I saw a podiatrist yesterday and I feel better now that I have a plan of attack.  I have a 100k ride tomorrow and a long (1 hour/1 hour) brick on Sunday.

Take care!

Londoners, two weeks from tomorrow....

Just got back from a week away (in Cyprus) and had my first run today in about 10 days (it was averaging about 103F every day out there)!
Something tells me that instead of a 2 week taper I may have to use this week to get back into running/cycling and just have a 1 week taper.

I hope that everyone had a great weekend!  Mine was good -- two hour ride and a short run on Saturday.  Another two your ride on Sunday.  Hanging with DH and the dogs.  Today I'm starting my taper.  Next weekend is my second triathlon, also and Oly.  I'm excited and nervous.

I feel a lot better prepared for this one but it's several hours away and I have not seen the course.  My first tri was local and I was able to preview the course.  I feel a lot more confident in the water and I'm swimming farther during each workout but I'm not swimming any faster.  I guess we'll know more by Saturday afternoon!

I know that Adam and Starvos also have an event this weekend.  Do you as well Ted?  Good luck to you both!

Brian and Kate, don't you both have an events at the end of the month?  I hope that your training is going well.

Unfortunately I think that we've lost John, Marthy, Geri and even driven away our mentor, Jonah!  Frown

I'm looking for tips with body marking.

Specifically, body marking and sunscreen and body glide.

Thanks!

Same here.  Tomorrow is a travel day and I plan to do a short swim in the lake when I check out the site.  I'll ask about body marking at early check in if I don' hear something tonight.

Good luck to you as well!

My report will be delayed since I am taking a mini vacation after the race.  I look forward to hearing about the various events people are doing this weekend!

Good luck on everybody's races this weekend!

As far as sunscreen/Body marking, I've done body marking at races before and from what i understand, sunscreen before bodymarking will cause the marking to fade faster. the more time the sunscreen has to absorb, the less fading throuhout the race. That said, body marking is largely ceremonial once you're out of the water so i'd focus on protecting yourself from sunburn.

1:42:55 for me. Bike and run were better than my first tri (though bike course was flatter this time). Swim was slower as I decided to use front crawl as I figured 750m breast stroke would kill my legs (I'm a fair bit quicker with breast stroke).

The transition area was huge and I need to make sure I'm more aware of where my transition spot is!

Other than that, a really good day all round.

It sounds like everyone had a nice weekend!

My oly went well.  The swim was not speedy but that was not news to me.  The bike went great and the run was good too.

Congratulations everyone!

Be honest, Stavros and Adam, you were out there making deals, weren't you?

Dealmaking Begins as London Triathlete Bankers Bike for Charity - and I, for one, sincerely hope that triathlon is not the new golf!

Thirty-five percent of all race entrants work in the financial services industry

I guess I'm even more of a statistic than I realised! I actually work for a bank, though as a programmer so I doubt I'll be using triathlons as a deal brokering tool any time soon.

Rules question here:

Can competitors hand something to a spectator?  For example, if it is getting dark and you don't need your sunglasses anymore for the run.  Is that considered outside assistance or is it only assistance if the spectator hands something to a competitor?

I'm thinking athlete -> spectator is OK now that I see this.  Thoughts?

"Unauthorized Assistance. No participant shall accept from any person (other than a race official) physical assistance in any form, including food, drink, equipment, support, pacing, a replacement bicycle or bicycle parts, unless an express exception has been granted and approved, in writing, by USA Triathlon. The receipt of information regarding the progress, split times, or location of other competitors on the race course shall not be considered the acceptance of unauthorized assistance. Any violation of this Section shall result in a variable time penalty."

Although I'm checking the BTF rules but I doubt they vary that much, it seems that the rules are all about the athlete receiving stuff from spectators and nothing about the athlete giving stuff to the spectator.
However, there is a rule that states that "Race equipment must not be discarded at any point on the course but must be placed in the athlete's alloted position in transition", but not sure if how strickly it would be observed in this case.

Yeah, I was just curious.  Can you tell I'm shopping for $$$ shades?

OK, next question.   How do the water hand off things work.  What do they hand you?  Does it fit in a bottle cage properly?  I anticipate needing 3 bottles during the half and I can carry 2 on my road bike so I'm looking at picking up one bottle during the bike.
