Does anyone know how they are planning to hand out the heed on the bike course.  I am not aware of premixed heed bottles.

kenbert-

Thanks for the swim report.  I'm trying to understand this swim strategy using bullyboy's illustration. Sounds like it will be best to hug close to the squiggly man (L turn) then hug channel markers on your L until you head for the docks where you aim right & let current drift you over toward the exit ladders.  I'm BOP swimmer so I cannot afford navigation mistakes.

Do people frequently get totally naked in the changing tents? I'm planning a complete change in T1 but don't want to, um, step on anyone's toes...or anything else.

Its not uncommon for people to get naked and completely change during IM's.  It may be a bit obvious, but you just need to do it inside the tent and not out in the open.

akbreezo - 2011-10-04 2:05 PM My heart rate comes up 10 BPM every time I open this thread. Can't believe we are getting so close. This is my last big week and will do my last big day on Saturday. On another note...anyone shipping their bike? If so, what company to use?

I'm going to ship mine as well.  I still need to call one of the shops listed so they know its coming.  When I do I was going to ask them which company they recommend, also maybe which one was cheaper.

Yeah, I can't decide. It's $150 to take it on the plane. Seems like you could ship it for that PLUS have someone reassemble and give it a once over. Problem is you probably have to give it up before the ideal time in order for it to arrive in enough time.

jkholden - 2011-10-05 8:28 PM Kenny, what was the water temp?

I would guess the water temp was in the mid 70's...We went surfing at Wrightsville till almost dark Monday in our board shorts...it's still nice at our NC Beaches. I don't think cold  water will be to much of a factor.

To Old Teen.... Boat with squiggly man will be a turn buoy...so hugging it is relative getting there from the middle of the channel on the straightest line is your first choice, once you turn you should see green channel marker left and red channel marker right. I aimed left current pushed me right and  took me right down the middle, which was a great angle to hug the  next two left channel markers, then angle in to finish at this point just the straightest line between two points.

Note the last section doesn't seem to have much current at all

To add my two cents to Kenneys report, (depending on whether we have positive current as planned). When you make your turn around squiggly man out of the main channel, It doesnt feel like you have much current at all. With the three turns and slack current, this is definitely the hardest part of the swim. However the first half down Banks Channel, you gon fly!

I emailed Jeremy D at B2B yesterday about the squiggly man:

MESSAGE:
In Re Beach2Battleship swim course... A question that just won't go away: Is the boat with the squiggly man intended as a turn marker/buoy?

His repsonse:

Yes. This year it will actually be a large orange buoy rather than a boat to help athletes spot it more easily

Just curious- what does everyone's long run and bike look like for this weekend as far as distance/ time and intensity?  I don't have a coach, and have never followed a written plan, and as a result, second guess myself a lot.

Hey Ben,

I would recommend some high volume this week/weekend.  I did a 20.5 mile run this morning.  Depending on your goals for the race, this should be done at a relatively easy pace.  I added in some intensity for miles 15-18.  On Saturday, I will be doing a 120 mile ride with a 7 run off the bike.  The ride will be done at easy/moderate pace and the run will be at race pace for the first 45 minutes.  Today's run and Saturday's ride will be the longest training run + ride of my training for B2B as my taper will begin after Saturday.  I hope everyone has a great weekend and gets some good training in.  We're almost there!

Sorry, I should add in that your run off the bike after your long ride should be at race pace, this should be a very EASY pace!  Way too many people go out too hard at the beginning of IM runs and end of really paying for it.  For some people, this is a great opportunity to practice slowing way down for those first few miles of the race.

This is almost exactly what I was planning on doing.  Did a 20 mile run last night, probably looking at about 120-130 on the bike on Saturday, with maybe a run a little bit longer than 7, not sure yet.  Then Sunday is going to be the start of taper, so something really easy, or completely off.

Long bike 6hr + 30min run

Long Run 2.30-3Hr

Pace your bike with  Hr or Power so u won't go out whack at the beginning of the race

+1

After 20+mph ride I have no feel for proper run pace.  In training R:W is best way I can consistently control my pace right off the bike.

It can be very challenging, but that's terrific that you're using the run-walk method!  I'm a huge advocate of this method, especially for IM's.  However, it does need to be practice.  I use it in all my training runs over 30 minutes.

Has anyone had any experiences with the shops listed on the B2B site??   Bike Cycles or Two Wheeler Dealer. I'm going to ship my bike and have little to go on besides how nice their website is   One is more expensive, does that mean experience and great service or just higher prices Wink

I rented race wheels and had them send to Two Wheeler Dealer. They have been really nice and responsive, for what that's worth.

I seem to remember something about GPS tracking being available for B2B. Anyone know if this is true, and, if so, where more info can be found? I'd love to be able to have friends, family, and my students be able to track me during the race.

Just over three weeks to go - yikes!!!!

If I am not mistaken, wasn't there a small blurb about it in the athlete guide they sent out earlier this week?
