Trainer ride was done this morning. Yoga on tap for this afternoon. It is forcasted to be 55F here this afternoon. I might have to preview that yoga with a run! I can't believe we are having such nice weather in January!! Kyle--pool counting is a perennial issue. I use swim time as think time, so I'm always forgetting my lap number and total yardage. As you mentioned, the 910xt has some issues with lap counting, especially when you are doing kick sets. Some people use coins and put them in a cup, or move them around on the deck. Others move the discs on the lane markers (although, be careful your lanemate isn't doing this too!). I use my shoes and move them in a clockwise rotation of 90 degrees per 100. So, each rotation around the horn is 800 yds/meters. It can go on forever--I've done swims up to 4000yds using this method without forgetting how many yards I've done. |

I think about 800m....I lost count somewhere around 550m and then just turned it into a 30 min workout. So....question I have......other than just memory...what things do y'all use to count laps in a pool. The pool at the gym is a 25m pool....so there is a lot of back and forth to get any amount of distance. I have a Garmin 910...but it isn't all too accurate in the swimming zone while doing lap swimming...a flaw that I had heard was a problem when i was researching it. Thanks!!! I'm pretty good at lap counting both by actually counting and knowing my pace. I can look at the clock and tell if I'm on 250 or a 300 based on whether the clock is at the top/bottom or 15/45. I also have a habit of counting the laps of those swimming around me. I generally know where the others are in their workout, so I either try to catch up with them (if they've started early) or see if I can get further ahead or try not to get much further behind. I have a 920xt and it counts laps quite well and has a "drill" mode which can keep track of time on kick sets (but you have to count the laps to enter after the set). |

Member 220 Wakefield, Massachusetts | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society (BDAS) - Open I use the same shoe rotation method that Gretchen mentioned. I also tend to keep my swim sets fairly short (usually under 400), so counting isn't quite as difficult. -Dennis |

95 Saint Charles, Missouri | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society (BDAS) - Open cool....thanks everyone....I'll have to try the shoe trick. I tried the counting using the floats on the lane markers....but where the jets are in the pool....they blow right by them...so I guess that's a good thing in i would keep swimming the same 300 meters for eternity...lol |

Regular 866 Central Coast, CA | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society (BDAS) - Open For my swim sets I try to keep them in the 300-500m range and the pool I swim in is 50m. My breathing pattern is "bi-lateral every 3rd stroke" so I use a counting method: "lap of set" ie: "1 of 3", where each syllable is a stroke. This helps keep my mind focused on the swim as well as counting the set. There are times where I've lost count and just continue from the last number I remember. I should be getting in a 3 mile run today. Hopefully next week my therapist will clear me for biking, even if it is just spin class at the gym. If not I may add a couple more easy runs into my schedule so I can get in more than 3 workouts a week. |

Unfortunately just work...not anything fun. :-/ |

Expert 4924 Middle River, Maryland | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society (BDAS) - Open Had to blow off yesterday due to work travel, but got in almost an hour on the trainer this morning and will go do a swim/strength workout while my daughter has swim practice this afternoon. Felt good on the trainer this morning for the first time in like six weeks, with some tempo and threshold work thrown in. Now to keep it up! |

1941 , Vermont | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society (BDAS) - Open I have a 920xt also but sometimes use an old golf stroke counter - basically a rope with about 10 beads on it I can slide across for each set I swim. Even with the watch if I'm doing something like 20x100 or something, the counter comes in handy so I don't have to flip through the screens on my watch to figure out how many sets I've done. I've heard a lot of folks use pennies and do the flip flop trick (I use that one too). |

193 , California | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society (BDAS) - Open 12/24 today as I rode about 40 minutes total to and from bike fitting appt. Longest ride yet on tap for the morning, excited to see how the fit feels. I missed a weekly goal as I never did get a weekday morning workout in. I am going to have to give myself a modified CLP since we don't have coots light out here. I can make it a Tiger Beer Penalty. Hope that's OK with everyone! Regardless, the real penalty is not hitting the craft beer store on Sunday. |

Member 220 Wakefield, Massachusetts | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society (BDAS) - Open 10/24 - 1.5 mi run this morning while my kids had swim class. 11/24 - 30 min trainer ride while kids napped. Had to drop my target FTP a bit given the morning run, which speaks to how out shape I am. Should be able to get in my last run for the week tomorrow morning, and then it'll all come down to weight loss as to whether or not I have to go buy some Coors. |

Expert 4269 | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society (BDAS) - Open Sorry for being a no show for the past week... If it makes you feel better, I'm sucking on a warm coors lite as my penalty for slacking off. It was a stressful week at work and I feel off the wagon in terms of my eating. I also blew off a workout on Thursday. While it wasn't pretty, I managed to get out for a run this afternoon before the Pats game. On a sad but amusing note - I somehow sprained my ankle sometime on Thursday night (no clue how - just woke up with a sore ankle) and was only able to run four of my 8 scheduled miles. I've got an ice pack on it and hopefully I'll be able to get in my ride tomorrow. To keep myself on track, I bought a six pack of coors at the beer store today. Starting tomorrow, if I miss a single workout or fail to record all of my calories before going to bed - I'll earn a Coors Light Penalty. 37 weeks to IM Maryland. Time to get serious about my workouts and my weight. I'm gonna crack a second CLP (they are warm)... Figure I've earned it. Onward! |

I've had Tiger Beer - wasn't great but wasn't terrible either. Do they have a lite version? Let us know how the fit worked out for you |

PR'd with a 32:51 and 10:35 pace.....my garmin was a 10:20 pace but then again i didn't start it till I got to the start line. was 107/266 overall so not too bad for my second 5K ever. relaxing a little today and then a 30 min trainer ride to round out the week and finish all the goals for the week.....we'll see how the legs feel tonight. |

1941 , Vermont | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society (BDAS) - Open So far 2 runs, 2 swims and a bike this week. I'm supposed to do 3 bikes - in exchange for a swim (1) due to the pool closure but I was able to get another swim in - so I'll take that in lieu of one of the bikes. Tomorrow I'll work to get one more bike and run in. Freezing rain the first half of the day kept me home from the gym - lots of sirens today so I didn't run on the roads. Sidewalks here - if you can find a plowed one, are slush and ice. Tomorrow I'll hit the trainer again and try for a run outside or maybe hit the gym. (Though I'd really love to swim) ?? Cheers!! |

193 , California | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society (BDAS) - Open Sounds good Dave. I went out for by far my longest ride ever this morning, just under 39 miles. Felt fantastic. Will continue to report on the bike fit as I go out more often, but right now I have to say it was fantastic money spent. One caveat to the deal, I still have to get a swim in this evening or I miss a 2nd goal of 2 swims this week, so will report back later. And yes, Tiger is nowhere near as bad Coors Light, but I couldn't think of a suitable penalty replacement that is readily available in the stores here. Carslburg maybe? Hopefully I can avoid finding out! 13/24 for me. |
