Master 9705 Raleigh, NC area | Subject: RE: Manatees - 2018 Edition OPEN Originally posted by cdban66 Originally posted by jmkizer You may have noticed that this group is now closed so we are not expecting any additional new Manatees this go around. If you haven't figured it out, we can talk a lot. :-) Also, we tend to be an inspiring bunch (as in, we use the "inspire" feature of the site a lot). If you are not familiar with inspires, note that you can reply to them by clicking Reply. This pops out a new window for you to type your response so that the original poster can see it. Please try acknowledge inspires, at least occasionally! They can really help us to get to know each other. Please list your upcoming races and events on your training log -- by adding to My Races or listing them in Dashboard. There is also a feature of BT called "My Friends" that can be used to create a list of people for you. That list can be used in your security settings, in the case that you want to keep your logs a bit more private. Also, the reality of Strava is that it is a quick way to see and support others in their training efforts, but it really doesn't work as anything more than that. We've tried using it for conversation and supplemental info sharing, but it is simply cludgy. If you have any questions, just ask. The My Friends feature is really pretty nice and I suspect under appreciated. I use it for inspires and such but on the right it also lists latest workouts, upcoming races, and so on. |

Master 9705 Raleigh, NC area | Subject: RE: Manatees - 2018 Edition OPEN I've mentioned before that I've been on a podcast kick. One of the "running" podcasts that I listen to, Two Gomers, had a discussion about morning runs. In it, they talked about a Mark Twain quote which has really stuck with me -- Eat The Frog. It never fails to make me smile! Eat a live frog first thing in the morning and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day. Edited by jmkizer 2018-01-12 10:11 AM |

Maybe the monkeys are meant to be motivational. Ride fast to escape the monkeys!!! These monkeys Not these ones Nicely played, Janyne! |

Master 6595 Rio Rancho, NM | Subject: RE: Manatees - 2018 Edition Now CLOSED Originally posted by cdban66 Originally posted by lisac957 Originally posted by rrrunner So I found an.... interesting challenge for a race this year. It is a four day event, a marathon each day, at Four Corners. One marathon each day in Colorado, Utah, Arizona and New Mexico. It's run by the same group that does the Antelope Canyon Ultra that Lisa did last year. It's in December. So, if DS2 and I are able to swing the Dopey Challenge in 2019 then I'll probably do the HM's instead. If DS2 and I can't/don't get in to Dopey, then I think I'm doing a quad marathon in December. Jensie just did seven and he's not even a runner!!!! They (an organization within Navajo Nation) also have a couple neat looking, shorter distance, races up near the Grand Canyon that I might do. That race organization is really great - I've just done that one race by them, but have friends who have done others (Bryce Canyon, Zion, etc.). Good people, great stewards of the land, well run events, and at Antelope Canyon the post race food was out of this world. Cooked by local Navajo people - you could choose from a make-your-own flatbread pizza fresh cooked over a hot fire/grill, or a huge bowl of slow cooked rice and beans. I cannot tell you how much that hit the spot after 35 miles in the sand. Is the race org named TAUR or something like that? If so, it is probably one of a few ways I'd do an ultra. I read a bit about them and they are ultra cool. See what I did there? "Ultra" cool. That's right folks, I'll be here all week. Tip your servers. I crack me up sometimes. Ugh. These are put on by Navajo Yes (Youth Empowerment Services). |

Member 2689 Denver, CO | Subject: RE: Manatees - 2018 Edition OPEN Chris, I think TAUR is the Trail and Ultra- Running group on fb. Ultra Adventures puts on the Antelope Canyon race and a bunch of other ones in the Southwest. I did a service trip in Monument Valley organized by Ultra Adventures and their sister company, Vacation Races. They're really good people. They do the service trip to thank the Navahos who allow them to do races on tribal lands. It was an amazing trip.ETA: TJ obviously knows more than I do about the race organizers. Oops. ?? I understand a lot of the area has been developed now so the farm is probably long gone. |
