Weather is finally starting to break here in Michigan and will get some much needed miles on the bike this week.

How is everyone doing out there?

Its pouring the rain here, so I'm leaving tomorrow for a week in Florida. Lexy I'm sorry to say but its 80* where I'm going so hang in up there. I hope to do some heat and humidity training for my mary. Everbody please focus on your training. Do not worry about me, and the possibility of sunburn, mercury exposure from endless amounts of seafood, alcohol intoxication from Jimmy Buffet style drinks, and drowning. I WILL BE O.K.!

Man, I'm so impressed that you are making the sacrifice for the whole group, and saving us all from the whole hedonistic Jimmy Buffet lifestyle.

Have a great trip!

Brian, Jimmy Buffet performed at my college 20 years ago and the lifestyle stuck, well minus the lefthanded cigarettes. Really I would be surprised if I drank a case of beer a year, so I might drink one or three next week.

He puts on some of the most awesome concerts!

Big news on my front. Due to more issues with the timing of IM CDA (best man in a wedding the weekend before and work issues not having anyone to work for me going into the race) I am switching to IM Arizona in the fall. I just got my confirmation from the Community Fund director today.

This is fantastic. Now after you and Brian are done, have eaten, cleaned up and gotten some rest, you can come back and cheer me on to finish.

Wow, IMAZ will be a party this year.

Andy, I'm sure you'll do great at IMAZ, but your post reminded me of what I saw when I jockstrapped the hubby last year - we were heading to the finish line to see him cross the line, when we saw a guy, long done, riding home on his bike, HOLDING HIS FLOOR PUMP in one hand, and wearing a bigazz duffel bag on his back.  Talk about balance, and not being tired.  After Tom finished, there was like a 1.5 hr time lag before we left, we had to gather his stuff, get him cleaned up, etc.  So, this guy - not only did he finish FAST (I'm guessing like 11hrs?), he had enough gas to ride away and hold his bike pump in one hand.  Heh.  I was in awe.

Good luck with training!

Funny story  related to this. My second marathon I did was Vegas back in 2000. I used it to qualify for Boston. I needed 3:10 and ran 3:09xx. Afterwards I am sitting there thinking I couldn't walk to the corner to pick up a suitcase full of money if you offered it to me.

Then I look over and there is this guy and girl (who both ran the race, obviously faster than me) dancing like something on "Dancing with the Stars" over in the grassy knoll. There flinging each other around, he's picking her up and they are have a great ole time.

I thought "how in the he!! do you have anything left to even think about doing all that."

But now years later, it all comes down to having miles upon miles on the legs. I have run a couple of marathons where I went back out to run friends in. Stupid me!

I backed out of the first race I thought I was going to do this season...

I will now be heading down to the IMKS 70.3 course for the May 3 weekend. And maybe in the area again for a sprint Tri on the 18th.

Probably doing two foot races pre-HIM, a 5-miler and a 1/2mary.

Hope you all are doing well, I'm so excited for this season.

I downloaded the newer (06) IM Arizona course last night and rode for an hour on it on the Computrainer. I will be ordering the Real Course Video of it here this week to get to "see" the course and ride on it in all its glory.

The suite is a great idea, free wheeling with the CC Surprised not so much

If all goes well this season and I feel it's within reach, there is a chance of doing Redman IM.

sunday was my race, which totally kicked my azz, and now i'm just tired in general.  i did some swimming yesterday and a really short jog today, but i'm wondering - how should you recover after a hard effort?  i don't want to push it too hard so i can hit it hard next week.  i felt weak and tired all today.  i can't decide whether to rest tomorrow or do a bike and swim.  what do you guys do?  historically, i completely stop running for like months, but i dn't want to do that this time, i want to keep building, but i don't know when to start pushing again.

thanks!

Actually, i feel MUCH better today!  So I did got for my bike/swim and now I feel even better!  So, I guess a few days of lightness is all you need.  But I still wonder, for you experienced racers, what do you normally do?

It depends on how my legs feel. The first half marathon I did, I started running about a week and a half after the race, and it was too soon. I spent 2-3 weeks hobbling around after that run.

But my marathon, I was doing pool and biking on the Tuesday after the run, and light running the following weekend, and it worked for me.

So.. go with what your body says that you can do. The most important thing is to give your body time to recover before starting again.
