Samy: On that sand run, I did a Oly which involved a trail run on loose sand. Crushed my calfs and achilles. Huge difference though between loose and packed sand.

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Plan was to run and swim this morning. While making fried chicken (YUM!) last night I accidentally splashed hot oil on my arm - smallish 2nd degree burn. Quick internet search said to avoid swimming for a bit. To be on the safeside I biked instead of swam this morning. Anyone have any experience or expertise here? I was thinking of waiting until Wed. to swim, hoping it scabs up or see if I can put an invisible bandaid over it to seal the wound? Thoughts? Mitch S 2/ B 6/ R 6 Rest 2 Total 14 Time 9:21:10

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Going to head out for a short easy run this morning to work out the tiny bit of stiffness from the half mary on Saturday, then will probably end up on the trainer for 1.5 hours. It's a nice day, but 30+ mph winds right now so I'm just not too interested in that. Might try and get to the pool as well. Heck, I've got a busy day planned! On a side note, I went and did something foolish this weekend: Signed up for the Goofy Challenge at Disney coming up in January. We'll run the half marathon on Saturday then the full marathon Sunday. We're bringing the kids again, they'll be racing Friday in their races. I'll be soliciting training advice and race strategy real soon, stay tuned for that... |

I use liquid band aid, it seals and it has anticeptic. |

Had a ball running in costume for both races with the characters meeting the runners at various locations. This race(s) is on my to do list. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Two questions: I nailed the nutrition on the HIM bike course this weekend, 4 bottles of Perperteum/Heed mix. What to I do for the HIM run? Do I eat anything solid on the bike to prepare for the run? I need new tires. I have heard the Michelin Pro3 Racers are pretty good. I know Gatorskins are pretty bulletproof, but I have also heard they are a little heavier. What does everyone race on? |

This is what worked for me this weekend. 1 goo 15 minutes before swim start. 1 goo in T1 On the bike 1 24 oz bottle of tang, 1 24 oz bottle of heed 1 goo every 45 minutes (total of 4) 3 honey stinger waffles, 3 cliff chomps On the run 1 goo every 45 minutes (3 total) 2 cups of coke out of T2, 1 cup heed 1 cup water at every aid station (every 2 miles). I wouldn't want my advice about tires lol. Edited by JBacarella 2012-09-10 9:35 AM |

For my last two HIM's the only solid's I ate during the bike portion were Gu's and Stinger Waffles. I'm starting to be a big fan of those waffles, they don't bother my stomach and I don't feel like I'm having to force them down my throat, like I do with clif blocks or most other solids. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Had to bail out of a two hour (planned) run yesterday due to a million commitments. Feeling a little low on motivation too, weird being seven weeks from an Ironman... Hopefully it will go away soon. Today I will run if I get the time, getting on the road to go to Austin in a few hours, might run at LBJ Lake this evening and decompress... Mitch S 2/ B 6/ R 6 Rest 2 Total 14 Time 9:21:10 |

Next Sunday is my last long run, then the taper starts. From there, weekly mileage drops to 42 miles, 34 miles, then 23 miles (not counting the race itself). Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Need some input from the group. I'm thinking of finally getting myself a Garmin. It's getting harder and harder to get accurate distance information for my trail runs and I want to also start tracking elevation changes and correlate them with heart rate info. I do already have A HR monitor but it does not do GPS and having it all in one would be nice. I'm not really sure which version I want yet. While I may on occasion want to use this on my bike, I'll prolly never wear it in the water. Which ones do those of you who use a Garmin wear and why? |

An added benefit that I didn't realize was that I could read at it the pool and lake when I didn't have my glasses on. It's much clearer than the 305 that I had previously. I also love the swim data that it provides for me. |

Forerunner 305 with heart rate strap, cadence sensor on bike and aerobar mount. I do use it on the swim under my cap. I think a lot of us are now using the 910. I used to use a Polar running watch and am absolutely sold on the Garmin. I know you say you wont wear it in the water but I'd suggest you do. With the newest update for avg pace during the workout it tracks swim time only giving you a very accurate assessment of your swim pace over time. The strokes per length and efficiency #s are also useful. I no longer worry about keeping track of lengths/laps. It is very accurate. Also works fairly good in open water if you are traveling a good distance. On the run and bike I find it very useful as well. It has built in altimeter capabilities or you can use mapping data to calculate. I have the foot pod that generates pace and distance absent the GPS if necessary and also gives you cadence. Same on the bike regarding altimeter. I bought the bike mount and the speed/cadence sensor so that it works seemlessly on the trainer. The charge lasts a long time and it syncs with my windows based computer very easily. The Garmin website also is nice and allows some good data mining. Happy to answer any specific questions you might have. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I just use a Garmin 405 for all my running. Since there's a couple newer/better models out the 405 can be had cheap. I then use a 500 of the bike. The 910 would be nice to combine it all, including the swim, but I keep hearing about problems and bugs everyone is having, not sure if that's resolved yet. |

I had an issue recently with my 910XT, but found Garmin to have great customer service and they quickly replaced my unit which was still under warranty. I used to have the the Garmin 305 before which was good, but love and do recommend for triathletes the 910XT! |

Happy to answer any specific questions you might have. I was thinking of the 310 XT. Why did you choose the 910 over the 310? With my background in swimming counting laps is second nature for me, so I really don't see the benefit of that at this point. Not planning any long OWS in the near future so again, prolly not a factor in the purchase. Is the altimeter really worth the additional couple of hundred bucks difference in price between the two models, for my use anyway? I'll need the foot pod either way to track dreadmill workouts correct? |
