dcon - 2009-05-06 4:26 AM Hi everyone. Happy hump day. Mine is already over and I'm enjoying a glass of cabernet with dw. I had another good training day - got in a decent run this morning and battled the crowds at the pool this evening.

woo hoo Dan...I was using my dh's ipod yesterday and he had some blue grass song on there that I need to forward to you...it was about staying on the road during high winds! haha...immediately thought of you when I heard it!

and I love a good cab! my fav wines are cabs...did you save me some???

Morning everyone!  I'm really enjoying my taper this week.  I can't recall the last time my training plan said "20 minute swim".

Sorry I've been pretty silent lately.  I've been battling nerves lately, and it seems that anything I write sounds like whining.  I HATE that!  So I've got my mantra going:  I'm trusting in my training, I'm following the plan, and I'm making lists so I don't forget anything.  Hopefully at some point I'll actually feel excited about this race!

Thanks everyone for your wonderful inspires and words of wisdom.

MDHillSlug - 2009-05-06 7:08 AM I did a roller session this morning instead of my bike commute. I'm feeling a bit bad about ditching a commute but the weather is iffy for tonight and this was easier on my body as prep for Sunday.

gee you did something at least! I am still trying to figure out what I am going to do...bike? swim? maybe both! I may just bike to the pool...swim and then bike around a bit! but right now...just coffee and the morning news is working just fine!

Huh ?  I was getting....make that WRESTLING my bike out of my van a few minutes ago.  I had ahold of the handle bar and I hear "CLICK".
I look down and there on my left handlbar is the numbers 1 2 3 in a line....... so it shifts on that side too (the other side had 1 - 6).
I had no idea the left side did anything so all of my riding has been on that 1 on the left and 1-6 on the right.
Ok bikers, what on earth is the 1 -3 used for ?........
I so hate being a rookie !

From Sheldon Brown (http://sheldonbrown.com/gears.html). It means you have an 18-speed bike, i.e., 3 sprockets in the front (pedals) and 6 in the back (rear wheel).

Nuts & Bolts of Derailer Gears

On a 10-speed bike, the front of the chain runs over one of 2 "chainwheels" or front sprockets attached to the pedal cranks. The rear of the chain wraps around one of 5 sprockets attached to the hub of the rear wheel. The 2 chainwheels times 5 rear sprockets give 10 theoretically possible combinations. This set-up requires two separate gear shifting mechanisms or "derailers", one for the front 2 and the other for the rear 5. This is as complicated as bicycle gearing gets.

A 27-speed bike is just the same, except that there are 3 chainwheels in front and 9 sprockets in back. There are still just two derailers, and two control levers.

The control on the left side shifts among the 2 or 3 front chainwheels; the one on the right shifts among the 5-9 rear sprockets.

By the way Julie (IN), you should definitely read the whole explanation on:

http://sheldonbrown.com/gears.html

It is pretty straightforward and good to know stuff.

Basically, it give you a much wider range of gear ratios. I talked about this a bit in my gear primer.

My son went back to school today after the swine flu closure, so they only ended up being off for two days.  Looks like everyone's busy training or tapering for the weekend. I signed up for a mini sprint on Mother's Day.  It was my first ever tri last year, so figured I'd go back and give it another go.  I'm loving my weekly CSA deliveries.  Today's box had yellow squash, broccoli, cauliflower, tomatoes, beets, sweet onion, mushroons, kale, a bag of spring mix, and the cutest little carrots with the tops still on. It's going to be fun trying out some new recipes.

Hope everyone is doing well.  Hang in there, Susie.  Julie (IN) told Cheri to put some lip gloss on for pics.  In my last half marathon in Little Rock in March, they passed out nice Cover Girl lipsticks at mile 12, which was kind of fun.  Nicole and Cheri (is anyone else racing?) you are both going to do great.  Isabelle, I guess you are counting down the days for your half.

Hope the rest of the week goes well for everyone!

Hi everyone...

Just thought I would quickly drop in.  It has been a crazy week (more about that later)...

Susie...you hang in there.  My ex was playing the same sort of mind games with me.  He ended up agreeing to our terms 20 minutes before we were to step into court.  Its a "game of chicken".

As far as the kicking him in the a$$...who's going to kick him first????  I'm taking my place in the line-up

To everyone that is racing this week...safe travels, good luck and have fun  (we want a full report when you get back).  Any pictures would be great too.

Well...I should get back to work (sigh).  I had to take minutes for 3 emergency meetings this week (2 to do with swine flu and 1 on flooding).  Interesting stuff, but a lot of work.

Take care everyone ((hugs))

Offthegrid - 2009-05-06 11:16 AM Hi, everyone ... sorry I've been MIA ... things are just really difficult now ... He's making demands that will leave me pretty much bankrupt. If I don't cave, then I know he will drag the divorce on for years. So it's really hard on me at the moment ... and just having a really hard time dealing with things. Doing some counseling and joined two support groups, so that does help. But it's really hard. But I'm losing weight again, so that is the upside. There, I found a silver lining.
Glad to have you back with us Susie. Don't cave. Work with your lawyer and push back. Stick with the counseling and the support groups.....and stick with your training/weight loss. They will help to keep you sane.

x2! x3  x4 plus if that lawyer you are talking with is worth a darn...he should be keeping this from happening....good luck!

way to go on the weight loss...but make sure to keep working out for Susie!

hugs girl! the only thing you should be giving your dh is a SWIFT KICK IN THE A$$!!! can I help!!!???

I'm winding down the workouts with my eye on Sunday. Did a nice-n-easy run this morning.

They've posted the event info. Last year I went off in the last wave (8); this year I'm 4th wave out of 6. I think it's all women 35 and up, including athena. Hopefully I can do a lot better than "just surviving" the swim this year! I'm looking to take off about 4 minutes on the swim. Lots of time to be saved on the transitions and run, too. I did pretty well on the ride last year, even though it was in a strong rain, so there's less room here for improvement but I'll be going for it!

So far the weather report is calling for perfect conditions: some clouds, high of 73. Water temp is claimed to be 68 but I don't believe it's that high.

Game on!

I'm winding down on my workouts too, in fact I logged my last one this morning.  I could really get into these 20 minute workouts -- before you know it, the workout is done!  And what am I going to do with all of that extra time after this HIM?

We're a little iffy on the water temperature.  The paper this morning said the water temperature was 78, which is the cutoff for wearing a wetsuit.  They'll make the call on Saturday morning, but I've got my fingers crossed for 77 degrees.

My goal for this race is to finish.  I'm not putting any expectations on times, and I'm comfortable with whatever I need to do to finish (including walking the run course, my best event!).

go get em Jules...climbing hills will be easier when you get your gears dialed in...go have fun and play with them...that way you will be  ready for your race in June. You are gonna love having those extra gears whether for up or for down!

I met with the mortgage company today to explain where I'm at.

She said that never in the company's 70-year history has anyone gone into foreclosure.

And then after explaining my situation, she actually agreed that foreclosure may be my only option.

But I'm very pleased with them.

I wrote in my blog entry about it; don't want to post here.

Staff - I'm the prop-girl. We started in an office on the other side of my building, but it's southern exposure, so better lighting than my regular office! Then, we went over to the horse barn, so that was kind of fun. There are new babies on the ground and they're fun to watch.

All I can say is "ENJOY" the experience this is what you have been training for, and you are prepared.

Go Cheri-Go!!!!!
