Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Woohoo! The wife's Sizzano is in today. Put it together at lunchtime, going to drop it at the LBS for a tuneup and get her fit on Weds. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My Parma came in today... brought it to a recommended LBS. The guy looked at it, said "never heard of Javelin" and then proceeded to tell me not to get my hopes up but that he might take it in trade "on a good road bike" once he has put it together. Then he asked me how much I paid and went on a small rant about people selling "boxed bikes that the distributors aren't supposed to allow that way". ![]() Edited by chadtower 2008-04-22 3:14 PM |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Bah, my Narni came in today, but I wasn't home, nor will I be home for the next few attempts... On that note, I'm going to be picking mine up at the FedEx pickup location... which sucks. Anybody know if the bike box would possibly fit in a Honda Accord or Mitsubishi Eclipse trunk? |

I hate bike shops w/attitude. If he hasn't heard of Javelin and he sells bikes then he's an idiot. I'd heard of them and I don't sell bikes... |

I like my Trek 1500 and all, but I'm freakin stoked about the Narni that I have to go pick up at FedEx! |

It's a decently big box, but if you unwrap it carefully, toss the box (or fold it up for later use) it definitely will fit. |

I recommend, without knowing anything else about the LBS, that you find another one. |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Standing, I have about half an inch clearance over the top tube on my 51 Varese at 5'4.5". Boy, am I lucky. Another half inch and I'd be in real trouble. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Woohoo, mine is in my car waiting for me to get out of work! Picked it up at FedEx this morning and had to take it out of the box. For those of you who have already ridden theirs, did you remove what is on the chain and put your own oil/grease/wax on it, or did you leave what's on the chain from the factory? |

For those of you who have already ridden theirs, did you remove what is on the chain and put your own oil/grease/wax on it, or did you leave what's on the chain from the factory? That's mixed...some resources will tell you to clean it off and relube, other resources say leave it. At least that's different info I've found. I figure, once I take it in for a tune up (which will be soon...wanted to give everything a good chance to stretch) I'll let them do it. |

![]() | ![]() I bought a parma 59. Rides great but it is a little too big. I have posted this in classifieds as well. If anyone got a 55 or 57 and is interested in a trade please let me know. |

According to Sheldon Brown (RIP): Factory LubeNew chains come pre-lubricated with a grease-type lubricant which has been installed at the factory. This is an excellent lubricant, and has been made to permeate all of the internal interstices in the chain. |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I think if your feet can touch the ground while seated (with bike upright) your seats to low, as your leg should only have a slight bend when the pedal is all the way down. |

Boy, am I lucky. Another half inch and I'd be in real trouble. How clearance over the top tube is recommended? When I get on my seat, I can't touch the ground with my feet!Top tube clearance means nothing and if you can even come close to touching the ground while on the saddle, you're saddle is too low. A properly adjusted saddle should have you sitting with your feet on the pedal in its lowest position (6 o'clock) with your leg almost fully extended (knee angle approx 150-155 degrees). Another less-exact method to give you a rough estimation of proper saddle height is to sit on the saddle with your pelvis square and leg fully extended straight down with your heel planted on the pedal at 6 o'clock. This should be close to giving you the above angles when you are clipped into your pedals. Remember to make these adjustments while wearing your cycling shoes on, because the stack height of the combined sole and cleat will add to the height of the saddle needed for proper fit. This may be too technical, but is a part of a series of articles on bike fit: http://www.slowtwitch.com/Bike_Fit/Seat_height_21.html from which this pic was taken: Edited by sty 2008-04-23 8:17 PM |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Bah. LBS called yesterday, didn't want to put the aerobars on, I told him that's why I brought it to a pro. Took him an extra day to do that apparently. His $60 quote is now an $85 bill. How is it that I always find the butthead places? Or are they *all* that way in MA? |

Took him an extra day to do that apparently. His $60 quote is now an $85 bill. How is it that I always find the butthead places? Or are they *all* that way in MA? Yup, I'm dealing with the nitwits that I bought my first bike from. Firstly, I called them, told them I ordered a Javelin triathlon bike and need it assembled. The guy acts like this is the first thing that's ever been requested, then asks somebody nearby, how much to charge to put a triathAlon bike together? So yeah, I was pretty much turned off at that point. Then I said, "so anyways, I bought a trek 1500 roadbike from you guys a little over a year ago, can I still bring it in for my tuneup". Their answer, "it's too late for the free tune up, it'll be a 55 dollar charge for a tuneup now". My answer to that, "are you serious? ok, bye then". Apparently in order to get your ONE free tuneup, you need to bring it in in less than a year. Wow, WTF? |
