That way you won't be affected by distance at all.... No reason to "BACK OFF" your distances.... In my opinion... I like that idea. I've pulled some numbers from one of the Oly 2x plans on here and think I've got a pretty good plan for the rest of my training. It's going up on the fridge - another good idea. Thanks everyone for the input. |

Master 1952 Guelph, Ontario | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL Help I'm melting. My frst tri is coming up on the weekend. I have been training in temps of about 60 degrees. On the weekend it is supposed to jump to about 85 degrees with a high humidtiy contaent which they say will tke the temp equivilant up around 90/95 . 30 to 35 degrees hotter. Any suggestions as to what extra precautions I should take as far as hydrating etc before and during the race. Shoudl I look at salt tablets? Some gel? Initially I was only going to take some liquid supplement on the bike as it is a short distance. I am thinking now I may need a lot more. |

The only thing you should really be concerned about is the HYDRATION... (TRI GIRL CAN CHIME IN AT ANYTIME!- SHE WENT THROUGH THE SAME THING LAST WEEKEND).... I think all you need to do his drink more water, and pop a couple salt tablets. I would be concerned about adding Gels, more calories etc.... It is more about staying Hydrated... |

Replacing some electrolytes, adding a few cals, while keeping it liquid. I would caution about adding anything new, especially nutrition wise, right before a race. Gatorade on a stomach not use to it in the new heat could have "messy" results. Be sure to start drinking a lot NOW. You'll have a better chance of getting and staying hydrated a few days before the race, not morning of. |

Expert 1231 B'ham | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL I've always put Gatorade in my water bottle for longer rides - my calves like to cramp up. The Gatorade or Magarita Shot Bloks seem to help. You're probably right about changing it up so close to race day. |

Member 31 NYC, NY | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL I had the same worries right before my race and I had the same temp changes. I spoke to my nutritionist before I left. NOTHING NEW ON RACE DAY... and I would call thursday too soon to try anything new. Soooo what my nutritionist and I did was increase my salt and carbohydrate intake with each meal until race day and of course increase my fluid intake days before. My previous race nutrition was 3L of 1:1 gatorade/water. So I felt safe increaseing the gatorade to water concentration to get more sodium and electorlytes for the race. I dont know how many days you will be in the hotter weather before the race... BUT DO NOT STAY OUTDOORS FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME. It is to late to heat train and you will end up dehydrated even before you start the race. Just go out there, stay safe, go slow if you need to and enjoy the experience. GOOD LUCK |

Master 1952 Guelph, Ontario | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL Ok so here's a giggle for all. I went into the local store and pciked up a new pair of tri shorts. Went to the pool to work them in a bit and after the swim realized I had picked up women's shorts. THank goodness the store exchanged them for me. I guess I should have looked closer at the "pink" tag on the price tag. |

Master 2436 Apex, north carolina | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL Thought I would share this tip with everyone. I found a nifty organization method for all those water bottles. If you were anything like me, everytime you opened the cupboard, 5 of them would tumble down on you. So I took one of these over the door shoe bags and put all my water bottles in it. Works great! I first did this with baby bottles and have converted it. I highly recomend this. (just imagine it filled with bottles, not shoes ) |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL Yay 13 mile run today. Usualy I do a long run on Saturdays, but I am driving 400 miles to go learn how to swim tomorrow so thought I would try to sneak it in, hate to skimp on a long run day. I did the Tinsel Tri (sprint) in December (first). Did 10 miler in March (first) Half mary (Avenue of the Giants) in May (first) Hope to get my swiming decent enough to do the Oly Tri in Upper Michigan end of July. Will do half or full Mary in Fall depending on how the ol legs hang in there. There is a 1/2 / full Mary in Susanville CA in September I may do (probly half) and a Full Mary in Redding in January. Not sure if I wil try to fit a 2nd oly in or not depends heavily on the swimming. I am mostly into regaining ground from being sick for 4 months ish. This week I did 72 miles bike 26 run and will do alot of swiming this weekend. Is soooo good to not be sick. Oh and to previous thread, a 90 min sprint tri is going to be not nearly as important when considering food and fluids as an Oly (probly 4 hours for me 8) ). And I can't even think about a half.... the oly looks bad enough without my swimlegs under me. |

Master 2436 Apex, north carolina | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL I have a question. I am predicting for my olympic in September that my time will be between 3 and 3 1/2 hours. So far with my training, I am shooting for being able to go farther than each distance, comfortably. I can do this for the swim and bike, still working on the run. My concern is, I have not exercised for 3 hours straight. Should I work on encorporating a time goal into my training as well as the distances? Secondly, would it be better to do this as bricks, or one event, in which case it would be cycling only. Or will the strength I am building with my training be enough to carry me through the long race? Those of you who have done Olympics before, how did you train for this? Should I plan on running a "practice race?" Thanks |

Should I start beefing those up? |
