Official times posted.  I'm towards the back of the pack of my AG, but as far as the whole field goes, I'm right smack in the middle.  132 out of 264!

Swim: 10:24  122 place
T1: 2:48 - 181 place Can't for the life of me think of what took so long here...
Bike: 36:56 - 119 place  19.5 mph average
t2: 1:04 - 61 place
Run: 27:38 - 150 place

Overall, I'm happy with this.  I thought I had a chance to break 1:15, and I might have, but like I said I held back on the bike to save my legs for the run.  And I'm happy with the run.  I've only run a faster pace than that in a race once, and it was in a 5K road race, so no swimming or biking that day.

I'm going to keep my eye out for another sprint, but if that doesn't happen, so be it.  I'm running my first 1/2 marathon in September and need to start focusing on my running for now.

Matt

Checking in:

Todays race went much much better.  Handled swim with confidence, went at slow pace, heart jumped right before start, I'm assuming because of what went wrong at my first race.  No time splits yet, but confidence is much higher now.

Bike was flat with occassional head winds.  I'm interested to see my time split and ave speed.  My bike cpu had me at 19-20mph cinsistantly, but it has been a little off.  This leg was 23K, 3K longer than last race.  Tried a new drink, it was aweful and only could drink a few sips. (nothing new on race day- now I know why!)  Switch to my water bottle only to find out i didn't rinse the top very well and recieved a nice soapy taste, made me sick.  So finished the bike with very little hydration.

Got off bike to find my designate rack had collapsed, thankfully I took the place nearest the parimeter gate.  Started runing, about .75 in my calves felt like two watermelons.  Swollen (feeling) and tight, not cramping, just tight.  My shoe lace came untied twice-  time for some lock laces, and resulted in some wlk run combo.  Stretched out legs while walking and was able to run the last mile or so.  Really need to expand my training length so I'm not dead when its time to run.

Final time was 1:41.   Even with longer bike, I cut 5 minuts off my first race.  Need to fix running issues but with the extra 3k+ on the bike, I think i would have been really close to my goal.  I think the goal time of 1:35 is right on and will keep my goal at that until its reached.

Overall, I am very happy.  My first "A" race is Aug 16th.  With the time I have a lot of work, I think I can make that a great race.

How was everyone elses weekend?
Anybody else race?

Great work Matt and Adam!  Congrats to both of you for beating the mental part of the race.

Weekend here was pretty good.  30 mile ride on Friday night, 4.5 fast treadmill run on Saturday (couldn't bring myself to go out into the pouring rain), and a short 13 mile ride today.  Last week capped my biggest training week ever at just under 8.5 hours.  Next week will be light as we are leaving Tuesday monring for vacation.  We are headed to a Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine, Texas.  Don't know how many laps I will get in but I will be going on lots of water slides!

Have a great week everyone.

GREAT JOB, everyone. It's pretty cool watching everyone progress as the season goes along. You realize you won't drown, the butterflies subside and folks starting talking PRs instead of merely hangin' on. NICE!

I keep on going awall although I am trying to get on to read the boards.

Congrats on everyone and their great results. I am finally joining you in competing - I have my first Tri of the season this weekend. I'll be my longest distance yet.

I had a couple of firsts since I last posted.

1. Finally went and did an OWS on Friday - first one of the season
2. Finally got to wear my wetsuit in the water after buying it almost 2 months ago. Wow it really makes you float. So much difference from my last wetsuit which was more of a sports wetsuit.
3. Ran a 10km race this past saturday - Missed my goal of under 1:00 by 2 minutes but I did get a cool key chain with my name engraved on it.

I am trying to do a big training week this week but make it a taper week also. Yesterday I went for my 2nd OWS (did 1500M) and then biked 35km. Today is an off day and tomorrow will be a long run. Thursday is a brick practise and then I am off until my race on Sunday.

Had my first OWS training session today. WOW, what a difference pre-race jitters and the sky rocketing HR make on performance.  Todays workout-  Swam straight, good time, no issues what so ever.  Now can I transition this to a race?  It would be great, I could cut 3+ minutes off my time if i can.  Three weeks until next race with 2 more OWS practices before hand.  Here's hopin'.

Atleast this race is all flat.

Yeah Mel...I'm wondering too...

I hurt my back a little on Saturday at work.  Too darn many trucks getting new tires.  Those things are heavy!  It's not serious, just a little sore.  I was planning to run last night, but skipped it and will probably get a short run in tomorrow and my scheduled long run Tuesday or Wednesday.  Still need to get back to the pool soon too...

Anyone else find it much harder to find time to train in the summer?  This coming week is VBS at church every night, and the week after I'll be at cub scout day camp with my boy.  It's going to be hard to find the time - and the energy - to get any good workouts in for the next two weeks.

I finally have a quick second to write about my race.

Well I survived my first sprint (longer version sprint) triathlon today - 750 swim, 30km bike and 7.5km run.

I learnt a very important lesson today which I want to share with you. When you fill your water bottles up at home, and you put them in your car, make sure you take them out of your car when you take you bike out to transition. I went to grab my water during the bike and it wasn't there. i thought . I didn't get to drink in the race until I reached the 2.5 km mark for the run. so remember - make sure you have your water bottles with you.

I ended up racing on and off in the rain today. That helped with respect to the fact that I didn't have water. I did get a puddle of water accumulate in my bike shoes and after a while that water got cold.

My final time was 2:15. I was thinking I might finish around 2:10 however i didn't take into account transition time, or the 600m run you need to do from the water to transition. In a way I sort of made my time.

I'll tell you more about my race tomorrow when I am not so tired.

Hi Folks!  I am back from my vacation in Texas.  Had a great time at the Great Wolf Lodge.  What a great place for the kids--especially for kids who like water.  There were 9 water slides, a wave pool, some smaller kiddie slide, a lazy river, a giant water playland, and many other things.  This kids were still in bed yesterday and today when we left for work which hasn't happend in a long time--they are still recovering!

Got in 2 shorter runs in while there--man it was hot!  The first run was at 7:15 and the sun was already up high enough to make it hot--probably about 80 deg.  Only got 3.25 miles in that morning because it was so hot.  The next run I went out at 6:30 and it was a lot better.  Got a longer run at a faster pace.

This weekend I am headed to the Jersey Shore so I am planning to bring my wet suit and get at least one OWS in.  I will also be brining my mountain bike so i will get a ride or two in while I am gone.

Mel--congrats on completing your first longer tri!  Sounds like you did a great job.

Getting my stage 1 ride ready for the morning.  Nice way to train- compete in tour de france challenges, both on BT and mapmyride.com.  Doing a time trial run on the bike course for my next tri on 7/12.

Happy 4th to everyone.

Two hard weeks at work followed by a week helping run vacation bible school followed by a week of cub scout day camp.  I haven't had much free time for the past month....hopefully now that's all over life will start to get back to normal.  I've only had a few runs in the past 10 days or so, and I forget what the pool and my bike look like....

Hope everyone is doing well....

Well-I didn't drown so that's good.

2:42 and change. Swim was pretty good after the first 10 minutes or so (got a little panicky again). Bike was very good; I wish I had broken 20 mph/av (19.9). Run was better than expected; hurt calf again, but spilts were very acceptable. RR posted.
