mattb1 - 2010-04-01 10:09 AM There is an open water swim race on 8/21 on the course.  My plans are to do the 2.4 miles swim and then ride at least 1 if not 2 loops of the course.  If anybody wants to join me you are more than welcome.  This could be a good opportunity to test out your swim fitness and wetsuits, etc...

The web site above seems to be lacking key detail.  Is there any info on exactly when the swim race starts, cost, etc?

The timing is perfect so I would love to do the swim and then head out on a long bike.

No Details have been released yet.  It says after 3/1.  Keep checking back and they will probably post the links soon.  The Wisconsin board may know more details.

I'm a little late to the party. I just signed up for IMWI last weekend in Oceanside.  I will spend another summer in the heat training for an IM.

How is everybody's training going.  I'm going to hit my maiden outdoor ride this weekend (assuming the rain\sleet in Chicago is gone).  I'm in a recovery week this week, so it is nice to let the body relax some.

Running - pretty good, about about 60 miles a week avg, 10 min/mile pace on long runs which is good for me.

Biking - I am way behind on my biking but I have taken my new Cervelo P2 out for a couple of spins and I am happy with the purchase.  Much different then the Felt road bike I used for IMFL.  It is amazing how fast you can get going on downhills (If only those uphills didn't get in the way).  I also seem to be holding a faster pace on the flats but I really haven't done enough riding to tell.  If nothing else being in aero is 1000 times more comfortable on this bike.

Swimming - Don't have access to a pool until Memorial Day.  I am trying to do some weight lifting to get those muscles working since I have IMFL 70.3 coming up in a month.  We will see how that goes.

Otherwise the weight is starting to come back off slowly but surely and the fear factor is cranking up so hopefully that will keep me on track.  I suffered way more then I thought was possible during IMFL and I would like to not repeat that experience.  I really would like to finish this one smiling not delirious!

Good luck with your training everyone.  Happy Thursday.

WOW, I'm happy if I get 30-35 miles a week running. That is great.

I just signed up for the free Brick Weekend that Break Through Multisport is putting on May 28-29th. With a swim-run Friday and bike-run on Saturday. The swim and bike will be on course.
Has anybody done one with these guys before?

Don't be too impressed with the run.  First of all I am moving in to ultramarathoning so I bumped up the run, secondly I make up for the long distance with lack of speed.  I run a lot but not very fast.  9 min/mile paces on my long runs is really fast for me.  I tend to average 10 min/miles or 12 for hilly trail running.  I am trying to get faster but I am also 200 pounds so I need to lean out if I want to go much faster.

Never done one of those sessions you are talking about.  You will have to report back, I am interested to hear what you think.

I finally managed to rip and compress the 2008 IMWI highlights video, it's posted in my album under "Pics for Posts" here: http://beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/photos/show-album.asp?albumid=10700&photoid=120567. This was the year I volunteered and caught Ironman fever. Unfortunately when I raced last year they stopped handing out the DVDs and the online version is no good without the songs If you haven't seen a course highlights video it's quite fun to watch!

First outdoor ride happened today...it was nice, a typical sunny and windy Wisconsin day....I kept wondering if I could see myself running a marathon after getting off my bike and had only done 65 miles....I guess I still have plenty of work to do to get ready....and appparently 22 weeks to do it!

x 1000!!!

I have a bike fit scheduled for Thursday - I'm excited to see if that helps (hopefully - A LOT!

Is there anything I need to know going into the fit?  I scheduled it with someone that came highly recommended by other triathletes in the area.  It's just that I'm pretty new to cycling and not sure what I need . . . hopefully they won't need much input from me?!  The one thing that does seem necessary is to raise my bars up - there is no way I can use the aero bars where they are . . . hopefully after the fit I'll be able to!!

This summer in Wisconsin is "supposed" to be warmer and I think lake temps last year would have qualified a non wetsuit swim in these temps. I know the pros were not supposed to wear wetsuits but they let that slide for some reason. So I am now planning on not wearing a wetsuit for the swim. Just a note however, if you are not planning for a Kona spot, then you do'nt have to follow to rules unless the water is over 84, then they are prohibited.

I just got my bike fit in Janurary after riding it for 3 years! And I'm so glad I did...
They should have their process down to a science, so you'll just need to show up with your bike and shoes and shorts . Just be sure to let them know if you have any issues or nagging pains on the bike so they can make adjustments accordingly. I was getting terrible "hot foot" so they spent some time analyzing my feet and fitting me with foot beds for my bike shoes...

Thanks a ton Lisa!!  I felt much more comfortable going last night after reading this

So - I got the fit done last night and *almost* have a fit bike . . . just waiting on a new stem for my bars - they were down WAY too low - I had no hip opening - no wonder I couldn't ride aero!  Plus my aero bars were way close together and didn't need to be - he spread those out so hopefully I will feel steadier riding now.  I also bought a new seat at the start of the fit - I couldn't take mine for one more second.  Finally - he exchanged my cleats.  Someone at his store had sold them to me, but they were the wrong style for my pedals - I could barely get unclipped from a trainer and definitely couldn't on a road :P  So - NOW I can get back out on the road - YA!!!  I don't get the new stem until next Th - but I can make due until then - I've had it this way for 2 years!  Feeling behind on my bike training for sure - just curious, what distances are y'all doing this weekend on the bike?

My plan calls for 2hr 15min on the bike this weekend, but I am riding the Kansas 70.3 bike course tomorrow so I will go at least an hour beyond that. I did skip an hour ride last night so hopefully it will all even out

Mine calls for a 3 hour bike, but this is a build week before a rest week. We've only just started ramping up the bike times the last couple of weeks.
