Well I started the new year with a nice leisurely paced ride this morning on the trainer.  Felt great to be on the bike again!!!

Congrats!

I also felt the need to bike into the new year so I did a roller session; would have loved to be outside but the roads might be icy.

Happy New Year everyone!  Trying to figure out what to do for my workout today.  Might have to be something with the kids.

I am driving home tomorrow, so I will be back to the land of the internet very shortly.  Won't be around much the rest of the weekend, but come Monday I'll be here a lot more.

So I went to a bike shop today just to start looking at pedals and shoes and other gear...and I asked if they had any used tri bikes for sale.  They did - a Cannondale for $600 (I don't know what kind).  I was so excited until I sat on it, and it was like, 2 inches too high for me.  They tired adjusting so many things, and nothing...just wasn't meant to be.  So disappointing.  On the upside, I came away with a pair of my first bike shorts which should make things much more comfy.

I know it is disappointing but you made the right choice.  Bike fit is the most important thing with looking for a bike.  Never let a bike shop talk you into a bike that does not fit properly.
Congrats on the bike shorts.  You should feel a big difference with your comfort on the saddle.

Good morning all.  Had a good ride this morning.  Just steady paced with a couple of 30 sec sprints.  Again felt really good.

Totally agree.  A bike that isn't the right size is never going to be comfortable and you won't be happy with it in the long run.  It's just not worth it.

I'm not too much of a cold weanie, but 17F with 20mph winds is too cold for me. Instead of getting out for a run I stayed in and did Pilates.

brrr...no kidding...add an active snow machine and 5 inches of fresh powder blowing in your face and that's Syracuse right now. I couldn't bring myself to walk the 1.5 miles to the pool, so I stayed in and did a videotape and rowed. Tomorrow is early enough to walk back to campus to work/workout.

11 days of vacation passed, still not long enough...

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!

Welcome Back Jen! Glad you made it back safe and sound!

Unfortunately, I missed getting in on the January challenges, but I think my head is screwed back on now, and I have thought about some goals for the month for our mentor group.   Since I haven't been doing any swimming lately and need to work on my run, they will focus around that. So...

January goals are:
1. Swim at least 2x per week
2. Run at the feildhouse track at least 1x per week for 20-30min
3. Loose 1 lb per week. (4 lbs in Jan

My back has been giving me problems again lately, (SI issues as soon as I attempt running) so I need to get to the Chiro tomorrow before it gets any worse or I won't be running at all in Jan.

I don't blame you.  It was 47 yesterday here, and I was on the fence about going out.  I went ahead and did it because there were no winds.  I don't like the cold at all, I guess I'm spoiled by being in TX.

I ran at 18F last week but there were no winds. Looking at our extended forecast these temps will be with us for a while and winds stay over 10mph until Thursday or Friday. If I want to run this week I may have to just suck it up.

More power to all of you who brave it - I'm mentally training myself to be ok on the treadmill because I REFUSE to go out in the wintery conditions of upstate NY.  The YMCA is nice an toasty warm!

It's pretty cold here.  I haven't decided if I'm going to suck it up outside or on the treadmill.

I have poor access to a treadmill and I hate it anyway.

Happy New Year everyone! I have returned from my internet-free zone and am ready to start the new year with a vengeance

January Goals:
1) Get in 3x swim, bike, and run per week.
2) Lose 4-8 pounds by the end of the month.
3) Plan out race schedule for motivational purposes (so far, the only race I know I'm doing is the International-distance Savageman course in September. I am so psyched for it.)

I think that I am going to add This to my race schedule this year.  My little bit of cyclocross experience will pay off.

Very cool!  I've heard xterra races are really fun, but I'm too big of a chicken to try.
