Does any one else have problems with their legs feeling like poop during tapper. I never can get use to this. I tried to run 4 miles today but it is 95 degrees here and I just didn't want to push it. 1 more week!

LadyNorth - 2011-07-09 3:38 PM From reading race reports, it sounds like there's not much post-race food left for back-of-packers.  I'm thinking of stashing some kringle in my transition bag.  Is O&H the best place to get it?

O&H and should be your only stop for kringle, as a lifelong Racine resident I've had more than my fair share of them.

Have a great race Sunday!

Are the bib # based on our swim wave?

Yeah! An early swim wave! (7:30)  One of the great things about turning 40 this year (the F35-39 start 45 min later!)

Thanks Miami

Ben - 6 pm is great.

Jane - yes, poopy legs here too

Hi everyone.

I don't post much (at all?) but I just had a question for you experts.

I am participating in the Racine 70.3 and am reading the packet, and am extremely nervous about this drafting rule. The whole 7 meters thing, 20 seconds thing - I am afraid that I might accidentally draft.

This is my first Ironman 70.3 and I really just want to do it and am not overly concerned with getting my "best" time or anything. I am not going to be unhappy being passed, not at all. In fact, I fully expect it!

Therefore, my question is: how "easy" is it to accidentally draft? Do they space you out enough so that you don't have to worry about being within 7 meters of another participant? Also, this 20 second passing rule, and that you cannot back out of a pass attempt scares me as well.

Any insight on this? Experiences? I am a tad nervous about this part!

Thanks!

Did a partial course swim today and it was colder than last years race. Strongly advise earplugs and double swim cap or neoprene cap being packed in your bags prior to leaving for the race just in case.

X2        I was wearing a neoprene cap and booties but forgot the earplugs and was quite dizzy when I got out. Will have them on Sunday.

I am less concerned with the water temp than with the forecast for extremely high air temperature and humidity.  I'm going off in one of the last waves.  Not looking forward to running a half marathon in 90 plus degree temps with high humidity.  I'm hoping the weather forecasters are wrong.

Could you please add 3 more for dinner -- Ashleigh (not sure of her last name), her husband and their son would like to join the group.

OMG I am a nervous wreck about this race. I had a DNF last month after some bad stuff happened in the water and now I have that demon to deal with.  Just want it to be over! vomit

I would encourage everybody to think about carrying some of their own water during the run either in a handheld bottle or a fuel belt, especially if you are in the last waves.  I have seen IM run out of water, gatorade, sponges, etc... at a few races (IMKY last year).  With the heat and humidity that is coming they will go through a lot of water (people dumping it on their heads, etc...).  Hopefully they don't get caught with their pants down and are prepared, but I am going to carry some of my own to be safe rather than sorry.

Agreed.  This looks to be close to a repeat of last year weather-wise.  Definitely smart to carry water.

Hi all..how many aid stations do they usually have on the run course?  I am coming form Colorado and have not had to deal with the humidity..also having a lot of dehydration issues I am dealing with..thus trying to figure out if I should be wearing a fuel belt with 4 bottles. (I hate the thing and was hoping not to wear it at all)  I am a back of the packer so will be out there a long time.  Anyway..the course map does not show any aid stations..or maybe I just can't read it.  Thanks.

the run is a double out and back of like 3.25 miles.  I THINK there were 3 stations.  One at about a mile, one at about 2 miles and then one at the turn-around.  You end up passing each one a total of 4 times.  I dont remember them running out of water, but it was pretty sparse on that last leg coming in.  The real life-savers in my mind were the residents along the course who turned on sprinklers and hoses.

They did have Ice at some of the stops.  Highly recommend the ice-in-hat thing if its at all like last year.

I'm carrying my 4 bottle fuel belt with three full and frozen figuring they will thaw by the time I get to the them. Last year they ran out of ice for those of us who started in the later waves.  The water was also warm.  The big plus was the neighborhood folks who had their hoses out for us.  A big bonus.

Glad to hear there are that many aid stations for water.  If they all still have some then I should be golden..but think I will pack my fuel belt just in case.  Just hoping my body remembers what the humidity was like growing up in Racine.  Otherwise I may be crawling to the line..which according to the race packet is one of the three accepted forms of locomotion during the run portion. lol.

Yeah...I think I will definitely be bringing my fuel belt as well.  I had always wondered about freezing those bottles and whether that would work.  Sounds like it does and it's a great idea that I will use (thanks).  I have heard several people mention the good neighbors of Racine will hose you down as you run the course....that would be SUPERB!

From the athlete guide:

There will be aid stations every mile on the run
course offering:
Ironman PERFORM
Water
PowerBars
PowerBar Gels
Fruit
Defizzed cola

So the distances that Chicagoman remembered match this.
