QueenZipp - 2011-02-15 12:06 PM Ya'll are the BEST.  Thanks.....I am really down today.....just want to curl up in a corner and go cry....
Hm. Well. OK. You can do that. For awhile. Then you need to come out of the corner and get on the bike. Or, I suppose you could put the trainer in the corner, set up your bike on it --- and stay in the corner while pedaling. What did the doctor say? How long will this take to heal?

I have not been back to DrStupid Head since September.  He took me out of the boot and handed me the sleeve. No instruction....basically "have a nice life" , NEXT......so it is all between my awesome PT and I.

Had a long discussion with my husband about it last night.....he doesn't trust the PT now.  However, if I go back to Dr StupidHead I will pretty much be referred back to the PT with the instructions to do whatever Awesome  PT man says and come see me in a month (why, to pay a co pay for you to do not a blessed thing??)

I am HOPING, though not overly optimistic, that this one won't be as long a rehab as the other one since it didn't actually tear.  Theoretically should be another 4-6 weeks......seems way too long.

QueenZipp - 2011-02-14 9:31 PM Thanks, Rachael and Emma......I'm in a really hard place right now and trying to sort out what this means for me......
It means you can't run. BUT it doesn't mean you need to become a couch potato. Are you allowed to walk? And there's always your pretty BIKE. And there's swimming, too. Maybe you can "become one" with the water. It doesn't even mean you need to give up Tri's. You could still compete as part of a relay team.....

surely you jest!

I barely tolerate swimming

So, my STOOPID hot water heater is killing me!!!  It has been moody for the last week or two.  It randomly resets itself to "vacation" mode, which basically means it's not cold enough for the pipes to freeze (thank goodness) but not actually warm enough to wash dishes, do laundry, or (heaven forbid) take a shower.  Now the darn thing will not even unlock and we need someone to come out and look at it, which isn't going to happen until tomorrow.  I've opted to finish painting the guest bedroom tonight instead of riding the trainer.  This way I figure 1) my parents will actually have a room to sleep in this weekend when they visit and 2) my husband will still sleep in the same bed with me tonight.  That water is WAY to cold for a shower after working out!  I think I'm going to have to hit an early morning spin class tomorrow so I can enjoy the nice warm showers there before heading to work...  Leaving hubby home tomorrow to deal with the heater guy...

Dr StupidHead is in a very large practice.....I am not sure that I am all that fond of any of the guys in that group after my experiences with the office.
Another group will want me to see their PT's and I have a relationship and TRUST the AwesomeWonderful PT I have spent the past 6 months with (as long as he doesn't punt me off on his associate again!)
I have come quickly to the realization that most orthopedic guys are good at putting bones back together....and some are even good with microvascular repairs like hand tendons and such.....but the real work of recovery is done in the PT office.

Hehe, especially since the last time the heater guy had to come for a real problem was about 3 years ago.  Hubby was out of town for a few days, I came home later than normal with a starving baby and a starving toddler.  To NO heat on a freezing night.  AND a leaking hot water tank all over the basement.  That heater guy was a HERO...  but I think it's time hubby took a turn with the house maintenance.  Tongue out

Yeah, that's the one thing that really stinks about where I live.  I have no close family nearby...  But (should I really admit I did this in my 30's?) I did call home and cry to my Dad that night...  But in my defense,  he works for the power company and knows how to fix just about EVERYthing.  So he was great support - both in advice and moral support!

Sometimes ther is nothing wrong with calling home to cry......My father was a man of few words, but he had my back when I needed him on many occasions.

Emmanem - 2011-02-15 11:02 AM Week 3 already??? Where has the first half of February gone??

Goodbye February! Hello spring!!

I am ready to go. Here's my calendar of good weather events so far (or preparation for):
-Outdoor Show Feb 26
-Multisport World Expo March 12 (the one on the BT banner, has anyone been?)
-Game of life 10km March 20
-Whitby Half Marathon May 22
-White Water Rafting June 4 weekend
-Spartan Race June 19
-Camping July 1 weekend

On the weekend my husband and I went to the open house for the Whitby half Marathon and they talked him into being a volunteer! I hope they have him somewhere that we can interact on the course. It would be amazing (but too much to ask for?) if he's giving out finisher medals. I would give up pictures of my finish to have him give me my medal.

Interesting story, I started doing triathlon because of last years Outdoor Show. Among many other handouts I was given a magazine that lists all kinds of races/events and general information about getting outside. I stored it for about 3 months and when I was cleaning I found it again. I went to recycle it but realized I hadn't read it yet... I didn't want to be wasteful so I read it. The word "try-a-tri" caught my attention and I was training for my first event within the week.

Bad idea - using wash out hair dye if you're a triathlete...[/QUOTE

Hee hee hee. I am sure you just mean it is gone in a few days rather than a few weeks but in my mind now I can visualise you turning the pool red with hair dye or some similar scenario....

No you're almost right. I looked in the mirror after my swim and it looked like someone dumped cherry koolaid down my neck and shoulders... Permanant next time I think.
I'm sure this delighted the other swimmers in the pool..... Especially since they had no idea what it was.

That would have been funny, but the pool never has anyone else in it. So happy for that!

Go get a second opinion from another doctor?

Soooo tired! This week is really crazy school and work wise.  Found out last night that my boss's (from when I worked at the day care 2 summers ago) son was involved in a bad car accident.  Somehow a gas can caught fire in the bed of his truck and he and his friend (whose older brother I graduated from high school with) were airlifted to augusta to the burn unit there.  My boss's son has 3rd degree burns on his hands and arms and 2nd degree on his face, head, and neck.  He's having surgery today and they say his face, head and neck should heal with minimal scarring but the arms are really bad.  I feel so bad for her as last year her husband had a massive stroke and is still suffering from the effects of that.

On a happier note, I had my rock climbing class again today.  We learned about the grading scales for routes and got to attempt some.  I got 2 holds away from the top of a route but just couldn't quite reach the next hold.  I'm hoping to make it to the top next week.

Oh, and my exciting news for the day! After giving up on getting a match until April, I have a fight booked in for 10 days time (Feb 26th - talk about late notice) and one 3 weeks after on March 19th!
I have to cut 1-2kg for the one next weekend and then can eat a bit more and put 1-2 back on for the March fight. So, training is stepped up for me even more for the next week. Can't wait!
