hey James, congrats on your gulf coast tri! I was there and managed a 6h26m finish. I missed the BT meet. One thing I noticed was that when it came to the run, all I wanted was ice water. I forced myself to take one gel, 2 or 3 swallows of gatorade, and 2 swallows of coke. This was something I had not planned on. For training runs I drink cytomax and take a gel every hour. At GCT I was beginning to feel nauseated after about 6 miles, but I didn't think I could finish without taking in any calories. So, what to do during CDA run?

Maybe drink only water for last hour of bike (instead of perpetuem every 15min.)?

Changing subject: I met a girl at the gym yesterday and she said that the IMCDA swim was her all time favorite swim ( and she's done a lot of races). Thought that might make some people feel better.

I'm just going to hang onto James' ankle! Then I'm gonna hold onto his seat post. Then I'm gonna ride on his shoulders. Should be a sweet race

Very hot today!  90+ this afternoon.  By the way....for all you doing IMCDA....2pm -4 pm is about the hottest time of the day here.  Perfect, as 2pm is hopefully about the time I start running or close to.  Our local weather "guru" was in the paper this morning talking about a possible heat wave in June and July.  Hopefully he is right as usual and it cools off a little!

Seems like someone could make a lot of money organizing events where you run during the cool time of day and swim when it's warm.

But until that event comes along, I guess I'll be at IMCDA running in a puddle of my own sweat with the rest of you knuckleheads.

Bit of an update on the lake conditions.  Talked to a guy at my LBS today who went wakeboarding in the lake a couple days ago.  He said the water temp near shore was 60 degrees and a little farther out was 58.  Since then we've had a couple days of 90F+ that should have warmed it up even more.  If this keeps up, the lake should easily make the upper 60's by race day.

Although I would take a cold swim and cool weather all day over a warm swim and scorching hot conditions the whole day!  Can we ever win?

This is my first post on this thread. I'm glad to see everyone's training is going good. I am from Indiana. Should I be concerned about having to adjust to any altitude differences in Idaho? A few people I have talked to mentioned this. I will be arriving on Thursday before the race. I will have a few days to adjust.

CDA is at 2000 to 2100 feet.  Altitude should not be a problem.

The elevation at the swim start is 2128ft, so don't sweat it.  The lake temp today is 59degrees for about the first 4 inches of the water.  Swim on the top.  Supposed to cloud up a bit over the next week which is good.  If the lake heats up too quick, the water flips and the warm goes down and the cold comes up!  It will be fine on race day!!

Hope everyones training is going well!

Lots of rollers on the swim, but none of them are too steep.  It's the technical turns on the downhills that you have to watch out for though!

I've been using this stuff for years.  Not as good as a really good massage therapist, but definitely the next best thing:

Anyone have a suggestion for an airport that is reasonably close other than Spokane?  I don't mind driving a few hours if necessary, but for me to fly into Spokane is pretty expensive, so if there is another option (preferably serviced by SWA) I'd like to check it out before booking my flight.

I got a round trip from DC to Seattle, and then another round trip on the shuttle from Seattle to Spokane.  About 1/2 the price of flying direct to Seattle.

Yeah, what Mike said.  Seattle to CDA is about a 5 1/2 hour drive (+/-) depending on construction, traffic, etc.  Probably would only take you about 5 hours if you hit traffic right and don't take too many pit stops.  First couple hours are in the mountains then the next couple are in the desert.  Easy interstate all the way though.  I'm sure it's much cheaper flying direct Seattle than to Spokane.

I got my Seattle - Spokane shuttle tix (Alaska Air, I think?) for about $70 each way.  Much rather have a 50 min flight over that 5 hr drive any day.

After hours of research, I ended up with a  RT fare from Hell (here where I live) directly to Spokane for $560...not too bad.  I'll get to Spokane 8 pm on Thursday, and depart at (ugh) 6:30 a.m. Tuesday...assuming I am reasonably mobile.

Our thread was getting too low on the totem pole, so I had to think of something to say....

So...how long will everyone be tapering?  Three weeks?  Two weeks?  Tapering is for wussies?

Funny you should mention that...I just got my training schedule for the week, and emailed my coach and said "Don't you think it is time to taper??"  I don't know if he saw the humor in it because he hasn't responded yet.

I am SOOOOOOOOOOOO ready for a break in the training, but the 6.5 hour ride next Saturday is  a good indication that we are not tapering just yet!

The real 3-week taper starts in two weeks.  I did my last long run last week, nothing over 2 hours until race day.  I did my last long long ride today, nothing over 5 hours until race day.

Took this picture today on my ride.  Top of the first bike hill (and run turnaround) looking down at the bike and run course along the lake.
