I can see where the turn off is.  But I do think it's interesting that basicallly only starts an interview with "first and foremost, I want to thank...".  And after that?  Pretty much just answers the questions given to him, why that's "in your face".  Really, that's all it takes to be "in your face"?  He doesn't preach or keep leading any interview down the religious road.

There are TONS of athletes who say that opening line.  And don't even get me started on the music industry.  How many times do you hear that line before any acceptance speach?  You could base a drinking game on it.

Yes, he is getting a ton of press right now, so it may seem like overload, but I guarantee, he is far from the only guy passionate about his faith out there on the field or other industries.

I just know it's coming, and realize he needs to say his opening line, then move on to the game questions.  Simple and nothing to get worked up about.

Fair enough, I get what you are saying. It's tough when there are the "in your face" types ruining it for the rest of them. I can't even blame the guy... he is white hot right now... every single person with a microphone want's to shove it in his face... why not use it to say something you are passionate about? Look at Lance Armstrong... he unappologetically says the only reason he came back was for publicity for his cancer foundation. Nobody grips about him being an attention *****... but then again we all know religon is a very charged subject and ellicits strong opinions on both sides.

I do "try" to take people at face value. I'm not saying I'm any good at it, but I do try, and at face value... he seems like a good guy that has some passion and positivity in his life. That's cool.

Cycling forums are not main stream media.... regardless of the high value cyclists place on their opinions.

... and for fuel for the fire... my local paper has a story hyping up the show down with the Pats. There was a paragraph that said...

"after relying all year on the league's best ground game, Tebow turned into a Arron Rodgers-Drew Brees-Tom Brady look alike by throwing for 316 yards against the leagues #1 defense in his first playoff appearance."

I think it's time to start discussing Canton.

Who said anything about mainstream media?  You said "Nobody".

My paper has a section like that; the Sunday comics. I'm a Tebow fan, but if he was a R/B/B look alike his 316 would have been over 500.

And who in mainstream media is coming out and ripping Tebow for so forthright with his religion?

There is however a multi page spread in this months Outside Magazine blasting Armstrong for using Livestrong to promote his own brand. While I think the piece is a hatchet job, it is far from the first article of the sort.

Yeah I was reading it laughing because it was a OH YES HE DID/Eh no big deal. Articles like that are just bored "journalists" reporting about something.

OK... well now I see I have a warrant out for my arrest by the word police... I guess I have some explaining to do... So Tebow is on every sports channel, every local news (around here... don't know about everywhere else because I'm not there... hope that is not a new charge) Natinonal news, and sports papers. He lack of skill is usually the main topic... folowed closely by his religion... now that is just an opinion by me and not really a fact I'm trying to put forward... hope that isn't a new charge..... What is most controversial... at least the way I read it when I do see a story about him... is his... or the journalists, insistence on placing religion into the coversation.

While on the other hand... Armstrong... at least in the national media that I have seen... usually is about his drug use... followed by his cancer foundation which is usually pretty positive about his efforts he puts forward to that cause.... again.. that is my opinion, I am not presenting it as fact... I hope that pleases the court...

Now I don't go to cycling forums... and the only people that generally do are cyclists... which isn't exactly mainstream in America...it isn't in every sports paper, local and national news, or sports channels... just my opinion mind you... so since I don't go there and read every stupid thread that comes up about Armstrong on there, and since it isn't reported in the main stream news... I have no idea what is being said there.

Now I must strongly appologize to the court for infering "nobody in the world" when I made a satement... I was trying to avoid a 4 paragraph explaination... I see most of the folks here got what I was saying... but since I have been charged with the high crimes by the court of not being clear enough... I throw myself on it's mercy and beg forgivness of this very serious offense..... or of course, you could just get over it.

Now my feelings are hurt.

There was a pretty big story about LA a couple months ago on 60minutes.  That's pretty mainstream.

And what was the story about... was it about his drug use, was it about his cancer foundation. Both of which I mentioned talking about why Armstrong DOES get main stream media coverage. Was it a story in main stream media condemning Armstrong for being a media wh*** for his foundation when in fact he is pretty fake about it... the same way Tebow is criticized by some for being an attention seeker and spouting off about his Personal Lord and Savior just to get attention when in fact he is pretty fake about... which is some of the claims leveled against him.... in main stream media.... his religious views.

Seems this has turned into a game of picking apart words instead of commenting on the point. Please actually read what I post, before taking issue with it.

I don't takeANY issue with what you said.  I simply said there was a mainstreem story about him.  I didn't tie that to any point at all about getting attention for himself or from the media or whatever.  Or anything you said.

THEN I tried to just put it back on Tebow and The broncos.

I think you should calm down a bit and not be so defensive instead of accusing me of not reading your posts or picking apart your words.  I'm not playing that game at all.  It was a simple couple sentences that never refered to you.

So back to the topic...

just making an observation that some folks take issue with things they see with Tebow... when in fact there are plenty of examples of plenty of other people doing the same things without recieving any grief about it. But that's how things are these days when people are put under a microscope and scrutinized by the public at large... their issues seem very overblow when in fact they can be quite normal and "right sized". I just find it interesting in general. YMMV

Not to pick apart words or challenge you, but for my edification; who or what mainstream media is suggesting Tebow's faith is fake? I've not heard anything like that, but I don't listen to too much mainstream media so wonder what I'm missing.
