Another stellar run for me today.  Slow but felt like a million bucks.  All except for the......DOGS!  Sure they were 2 ankle bitter size but the teeth are just as sharp.  I swear why do people let their dogs out like that.  Oh well I didn't let it ruin my run.

P.S. they never got me, little shuffle and a snarl back at them, now how tough do they feel :P

My Aunt who lives in Cape Coral had a run in the other day with a couple if dogs and it bit her.  Ticked her off some much that she actually filed charges...Give her enough time, and all of Florida will be safe...

Congrats on another good run... you are on fire!

Hit the beer store - bought Kokanee for regular workout days and for "long workouts:"

not kokanee. Might as well just go for brewhouse.

I approve of all things Tree Brewing.

Well what a great New Years celebration, judging from the caps in my pocket, I consumed a Molson Export Ale, at least two Keith's Amber Ales, and two Boreal Bier Miel( honey ales) ..... Happy New Years....

Also had a Romeo y Juliet cigar with my good buddy after the ball dropped. I am not a smoker but at -20 celcius with the stars out! Pretty Awesome!!!

Justin - Glad you had a good time last night!  You canadians are forcing me to redefine what cold means.  I grew up in Cleveland where the wind coming off the lake was brutally cold, so I consider myself to be pretty tough... But these temps y'all are throwing up in comparison to what we are experiencing in MA make Boston seem balmy.  Might have to throw on a pair of shorts to brave the 34 degree temp (that's 1 degree for you Canucks!) just to keep my man card.

Enjoy the day!

Enjoy the day

Agreed -- I don't know what I find more inspiring, the long distances, frigid temperatures, or really fine brews.

Happy new year, everyone.  Alas, I had to behave myself a bit last night as I am conducting Beethoven 9 this afternoon, but rest assured I will be coming home to celebrate with one (or more) of these bad boys.  A very tasty beverage -- too bad they are still hard to find outside of the Green Mountain State.

Prost!

In DH's honor - I got my a$$ outside before 10 to get in a quick run.

Brewing today - making a Ruthless Rye clone.  Football, beer and brisket (did I mention the brisketLaughing) - should be a god day.  Hope you all are able to get outside!

That looks heavenly.  My resolution this year is to drink good beer like that.  quality vs. quantity.  I've been drinking alot of good beers, but in quantity and it's been hurting my other more mainstreamed passions.

Goal for 2013 is to buy those awesome 22 oz. "top shelf" beers that I've always passed up for the on sale 6 pk. of decent beer.  Limiting myself to 2 22's a week of stuff like that.  My goal this week or next is to find a good barleywine like that, and a great imperial IPA.

Question for the group.  with my new goal in mind, I've had 8 12 oz. ipa's on my fridge shelf for a week or so.  what to do with those?  Maybe I should shelf them for when I have a get together, or save them for a fishing trip?  Does anyone else have a good motivational idea?

what game you watching today.  are there any bowl games on cbs, abc, or nbc?  That rye just sounds tasty.  I don't think I've ever had one.  Maybe after the barley wine and the imperial, I'll go for a rye.  what else would you recommend I try out?

I think to steal from you david, I'm going to say in honor of DH for everytime I post a run as well.  That's frick** impressive.  That guy ran 2.5x what I ran last year, And I thought I had it goin' on.  Inspiring.

I got out for a 6.2 miler.  I upped it from the planned 4.6 to go for an xtra lb. or so of weight loss.  I managed an 8:00/mi pace and lost 3.7 lbs.  well under my goal for the month now.  I'm saving my callories for New Years day Chicken scalapini.

I had gained up to 197.6 post Christmas.  It was a train wreck.  back down to 188.1 after workout today.  Healthy and happy again.

Happy 2013 all.  pursue your goals.

Happy New Year Everyone!

Went out for a jog on the track to check in with my hip – it is still so tender that I ended up just going for a brisk walk instead and did LOTS of stretches and lunges. That part felt pretty good and the weather was beautiful 53 degrees and sunny – no need to pretend to look for a “man card.” that I don't own anyway. I think that I am just going to do that everyday until it is better. I think that babying it was the wrong approach. So, I was pretty disappointed that I couldn't get a run in so I am drowning my sorrow in a Napa Smith Organic IPA. Complaining aside, I am grateful that my injury seems to be running specific and that I can still ride and swim without any trouble. The pool re-opens tomorrow!  yippeee!

Stepped on the scale this morning to have a baseline – weigh a little (2 pounds) more than I thought, but it is good to have a starting point.

DQ: Thanks for the tip on the Moonlight Run in Palo Alto. I might just do that. I am in South Napa County. Palo Alto is a bit of a drive, but it might be fun to make a trip of it. I haven't been to Palo Alto in years. For a while my father was staying at the VA Hospice there, and I spent as much time as I could visiting. Not such a pleasant association to have with a place. Haven't had much of a reason to go back. Shame that it has that association now, because when I lived in San Jose, I would go there quite frequently (soccer games, bars, shoe stores, visit friends – all sorts of positive things) How long were you there and when did you move to MA?

Darren: Congratulations on an amazing year! I hope that 2013 is even better!

Cynthia: I think that Great Basin Brewery Bourbon Barrel Russian Imperial Stout looks wonderful. There is nothing like a beer that sucks the light out of a room!

Hope everyone has a great evening.

Dan - Love the Rock Art Ridge Runner... It's a barley wine without the maltiness...  A superb beer!

Beethoven's 9th huh?  How cool is that!  Love that piece of music!  A strange - non triathlon question - do you know of a good website where I can learn more about that symphony and other famous pieces of music.  I like classical and would love to learn more about the music itself.  Any suggestions?

Kevin - Love the goal of making each ounce count.  My suggestion for those 8 22's is to make them goal beers.  Set 8 small goals - ones you can accomplish in a week and for each goal achieved - you get to enjoy a bottle.  Or you could make them PR rewards.  Write down your Pr's for a 5k, a half mile swim and a 10 mile bike ride.  Everytime you improve your time, you get a beer.  Even better, if you don't improve your time or accomplish your goal - pay it forward and give them away to friends.

I watched a lot of good football.  The Michigan game was good until my DVD didn't record the email.  The Standford game was excellent as well.  What's you watch?

Good job on the wieght loss.  Turns out you didn't need a pass after all... How was the scaloppini?

As for ryes - here are some good suggestions:

Elizabeth - I lived in San Jose for about 5 years and moved out here in '03.  Man, did  I love it out there!  So pretty.  And the weather was so nice (I remember sitting in front of my windows watching the weather channel because I missed snow so much - God, I am an idiot!).  The running out there was fabulous.  The nice part about the Palo Alto night run is that you don't have to tie it to the city (so sorry to hear about your dad!) because you don't see much except for the thousands of candle bags that line the route.  However, you should find something that brings you joy because that is what working out is all about.

Take care of that hip.  Don't be afraid to baby it until it heals.  Better to get it fixed now than to miss a race later in the season!

DQ

PS - Sorry about the man card comment
