Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Carla - I'm a newbie...one year of tri's under my belt. Okay...now I'm going to force myself to go outside and run. However, it's lookin pretty foggy as I sit here at the kitchen table looking out the window. So I may just do a bunch of laps around my block...which is short of a mile. One hour is my goal...would be nice to go 1 hour 15...I talked to some med student last week telling me about some benefit I get after running for an hour. Although my attention to detail is poor so I don't remember what the benefit is! My daughter just said to me..."I thought you were going out running." It's great to have built in mentorship at home. Pretty good of her since she was up half of the night sick Talkk to ya'll later:-) I spent a little time in Jonesboro at ASU! TDog |

It was so cold for the first 10 minutes I thought about coming in and doing an indoor bike trainer session. However, after 20 minutes and 1/2 way through a TriTalk podcast I was on a journey to an hour and 10 minute run. Anyone else listen to the TriTalk podcast? I love them ...by David Warden (sp?). I subscribe via Itunes. My other goal for the day is get a strength workout in..especially after listenting to a podcast talking about that's one of #1 neglected aspects of triathletes. Later... Tdog

Nice work TDog!!! I am taking you up on the advice. I just got back from the kids swim meet (They both did great!!!) and going to hop on the trainer. Here's what the coach has planned: 15' warm-up SOUNDS PAINFUL!!! I'll let you know how it goes!! |

Just need to work on the details of a house rental..most places are Sat-Sat or Sun-Sun...I'm trying to get Fri-Fri..since there is an 11am Mandatory meeting on Sat and I'd rather do the race at beginning of vacation then at the end. I never thought I would be thinking of doing more than a marathon because I never liked running. Running was just a leg of the sport I am addicted to. After really focusing on running the last couple winters I am starting to enjoy it. Being an endurance athlete that is starting to enjoy running I guess sooner or later the stars will line up for me to do an ultra. Now, as a mentor, I have to point out that your were waaaaaaaay under nourished. Not having any experience in ultras, please don't take any offense to this. It's just my opinion and I wanted to put it forward to help others as well as give you a suggestion. Let's look at some numbers: >4500 calories expended over 6.5 hrs (~700 cal/hr running) You will always be in a deficit during a race because your body can only absorb ~400 cal/hr and you are burning upwards of 700 cal/hr. If during the race you were to take in 350 cal/hr you would have taken in 2275 cal during your race. (50% more energy than you took in) Runners and bikers are both notorious for not taking in enough nutrition during a race or training. I have gone on century rides with bikers that start with 2 water bottles and end up with 1/2 a bottle after 5 hrs of riding. They make it, but are wasted for the rest of the day. I have gone on 3 hr runs with guys that bring 1 water bottle while I have 40 oz of gels and Gatorade on my fuel belt and a 24 oz water bottle to carry. (I still have to stop and refill!) I have only done one open marathon and 1 Ironman but had I not eaten every 15 minutes during both I would have definitely run out of gas on both of them. Nutrition is the key to racing anything longer than 2 hours. (Even a 2 hr race requires a nutrition plan in my book.) Once again Luis, awesome run!! Try taking in more calories on a long training run and see how you feel. |

![]() | ![]() Hi Everyone!! I left yesterday morning to go to Tallahassee, Florida to watch a friend do a marathon this morning. I woke up today and decided to do a half marathon while my friend Tam did her first marathon. She brought home Womens Overall at at 3:03:?? Not too shabby being its her first marathon outside of her Ironman career. I did a'ight. I forgot my running shoes here at home and ended up running to the mall and picking up another pair of Brooks. So aside of running in brand new shoes and being very cold and what seeemed to be an uphill false climb for the first half of the race, I think I did rather well for it being my first real anything of 2008. I might run another half mary in two weeks with Dave. He's still hm'ing and ha'ing about doing it. I wanted to do this mornings race just in case he decided not do the one in two weeks. BUT enough about my day and thoughts. I seem to ramble on when I'm tired I guess. I don't seem to ramble too often. (quiet Bob) I saw something a few entries ago about Bob being blessed on having a nice muscle? Can I get a pic or a sketch??
