fattyfatfat - 2009-07-01 10:54 AM Looks like some good looking numbers from June.  Man I can't believe its July 2009 already.

Doug... I second what Suzy said.  Why the heck aren't you running on the beach?

Suzy...  What is it about the nutrition that concerns you?  Do your best to figure out what works in training, stick with it, and TRUST it.

That's right Andy!

I have a very delicate system .  If I take in calories too soon on the  bike, I am bloated and gurgly (lovely thought) even though I am WAY underfueled.  If I drink too little/take in too few calories, I get into T2 lightheaded and a little looped.  Both make for a very unfun run.   Drinking/Fueling on a long bike ride and doing a 20 minute brick run doesn't seem to replicate race conditions enough for me. I am fine during those times.  Coach Steve is so high on Hammer products he is having me try Perpeteum which I hated for marathons.  I bought it and plan to use it on a 55m ride on Sunday and get off my bike and hope I don't puke before doing a hard, but short run.  I am determined to create an iron gut for myself!

So, Suzy, do you start off feeling fine and then get bloated and gurgly?  Or do you feel bloaty and gurgly while still on the bike?  I'm confused.  I'm hoping that I will feel the same way after 20 minutes of the run as I felt at the beginning!  now I'm getting worried about not having done longer bricks.

Did you guys miss me today?
I am really learning about nutrition lately. I ate some cherrios and a couple pieces of toast with PB and honey for breaky. Went out and ran 12k a few hours after. Half way through the run I thought my stomach was going involuntarily empty. Wowser, hit a can and was fine after. But i think it was too much of a good thing. Toast and PB with honey has been my staple but wowser today!!! Went out to the mountains had a picnic with the girls, and back to work tomorrow!!
I'll tell you all about the Calgary Stampede later, but that starts on Friday. Gong show!!

Janet -you have any used websites ala Craigslist down there? Check that out. But buyer beware. I bought my bike from a guy I know.

And you guys take it easy on the CanadianTongue out Rob hasnt been around much to back me up lately. You guys all have Friday off as well, and don't get me started on your Thanksgiving Day week or whatever it is!Wink

JHagerman - 2009-07-01 2:47 PM We've already booked with Northwest, unfortunately.  I'm not a NWA fan.

Waiting for a response from the LBS.  I can rent a box from my team sponsor/shop, but still have to figure out the shipping.  I'll be checking with UPS, but first I have to get the overall size and weight.

yeah man i can't stand nwa.   also before you rent check out the price to purchase new.  tri-sports is having a sale now and i wonder if you get the BT discount on top of it.  i seem to recall you do, but check.   regardless, if you think you might ship the bike again, to say my house in april for lone starUndecided, then it may be worth buying your own.  don't know

Too funny!  My team sponsor will rent me a box for $50, hard shell.  Hard to beat that, short of free

If you feel fine coming off the bike you are Golden.  I can be 10-15m into a race having taken in maybe 8oz of fluid (80calories) and start feeling gurgly.  Both Gordo and Steve told me to back off Infinit at that point, lower my HR, maybe drink some H20 and wait for it to pass before starting to ingest calories again.  By that time, I arrive in T2 under-caloried!  I think what you have been doing has been working for you.  I am just a screwball when it comes to nutrition and exercise. Tongue out

Time is almost out to join the Tour de France challenge - how many miles or minutes and how many rides during the tour?  Tony, Steve, Jeremy, and I have signed up - anyone else want to come play?  John, you already have at least 100 miles planned...

In the challenge forum.  I did the Run challenge last month and it was both lots of fun and motivational.

The TdF challenge sounds like a lot of fun too.

So who is racing this holiday weekend?  Me - I have two races.  Satuday is a 750m OWS race.  Sunday is a sprint - 500m OWS, 12 mi bike, 5k run.  The lake/pond/drainage ditch where they are having these races had a water temp of almost 90 last week.

Tracy has a 10k with her 13 yr old nephew.

Anyone else?

No races for me this weekend Cry.  Instead I am going to focus on what Wisconsinites do best on the 4th--eat too many brats, drink too much beer and go out on the boat to sun myself during the day and watch the fireworks at night!

One pool swim to go and I am heading for Minocqua for 10 days!

I have another 5k on Saturday.  Also on same course as my last, so I'll get to compare my times too!!

I have a quick question, too.  I have an Oly (my first) coming up at the end of the month.  In an effort to improve my pitiful swim, I thought I might rent a wetsuit.  Last year, the race was not wetsuit legal, but as far as I can tell, it has been all other years.  I have never used one, but I'm willing to try anything!!  I remember some pages back, there was talk about renting wetsuits.  With so many pages, I have no idea where it was!  My question is if you have rented a wetsuit, from where, and with what results?  Where would you recommend?  I will take any advice!!  Hopefully the race will be wetsuit legal and I will be able to use it!!
Thanks!

I have a sprint i am relaying with my wife....I am the swim and bike. So its only a 500m OWS swim. Should i still wear a wetsuit? I told her I am going to go as fast as humanly possible, so do you think that slows me down for T1. Or does that suit save me the extra T1 time?

Tony will chime in here shortly about this as he was the one who rented one.  Did you check w/ your tri shop, assuming there is one in your area.  The might have some.

my .02   If you are racing just to have fun then wear or don't wear what you are most comfortable in.  If you are racing for the fastest time then wear it.

I'm guessing that time saved on the swim and extra time in T1 using a wetsuit are going to be a wash on a 500 yd swim - go with whatever is more comfortable for you.

I was able to get a little 30+ mile ride in this morning with my group.  We had about 15 this morning, so it was pretty fun.  It will be tough to get much in this weekend.  I will be able to get some OWS and maybe a run or two in.  Dang it is hard working that in between barbecue and adult beverages, but it is worth a tri.

What are you guys doing to "celebrate" the 4th?  I know a couple of you are racing, but what about the rest of you guys and gals.  We will head to the lake today until Sunday.  We have a huge fireworks display on the evening of the 4th on the lake.  It is a pretty long ride by boat to get there, and can be pretty damm scary getting back, in that you have hundreds of boats on the water at night getting back...but pretty fun.  Aside from that, just visiting some friends on the lake and trying to keep the kids entertained.

Everyone HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND!

The 4th is my daughter's 2nd birthday, so we have a bunch of family coming to town - from both mine and my wife's side.  Should be the hectic kind of fun.  I don't know how much training will be done, but who cares - it's the 4th of July.

We got my daughter a Specialized Hotwalk (no pedals or cranks) for her birthday.  She has a little 4 wheeled push bike now and she keeps saying she needs a bigger bike (possibly w/ a little hinting from Dad), so hopefully this is an easy transition for her.

Can't say enough good things about them, they let me keep my suit for like 2 weeks and only charged me for the one, I think it was 45 bucks.  not including the shipping back to them.  They sent me a top of the line synergy wetsuit to use.

I would suggest you ask for it to be delivered the weekend before your race so you have time to go to the pool and try it out first.  Then send it back after your race.

Also I would call/e-mail them today to reserve it now.

Couple things, my wife asked me about joining the group, she figured since you all were allready hassling her she might as well, + if there is a group of us doing Lonestar she wanted to get to know everyone.

Also, trying to start up a TT in our area, wonder how difficult that will be.  The closest ones to DC are all pretty much 2 hrs away.  I e-mailed the president of my bike team about it to see if he had any ideas.

My race this weekend is unique, it's an age-handicaped race.  meaning oldest women start first, then oldest men, and so on and so forth until you get down to the teenagers.  First one across the line wins.  There is some kind of running handicap system that says 60 year old man should run 4 miles in xx:xx so starts are all based on that age handicaping.  It is usually won by some old guy that runs in the 6's.

No problem with you wife joining the MG.  The more the merrier!  Besides if she can spar with John like you alluded to, it should provide some great entertainment...  Where is that popcorn

That's the smart way.  I had to take the pedals off my daughters bike and lower the seat to get to the same place.  I want her to learn to ride like yesterday - did I mention she is 8?  Way past time for her to ride a bike.  She is not very coordinated and is ready to give up every few minutes...  I have resorted to bribery already, alas to no avail...
