Elite 3495 SE | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I never miss a chance to get lambchops the night before a race. Call me superstitious but it works for me to get a classy dinner the night before. I booked up a dinner at the CDA resort place. 40$ entrees, good red wine list, etc. Don't carbo load is my view, because then you are bound to carbo unload the next day. Hydrate well and get a bit of sodium in. I also wake up at 2am and jam down as close to 1000 cals as possible via banana, 2x muscle milks, a power bar, etc. |

My husband and BFF have gone to great lengths to find them for me in the various cities I've raced in |

Plan is still 8a.m. Thursday morning? I'm flying out tomorrow...pretty pumped! Don't have a map but if you go to the flag pole between the city park (Ironman Central) and the resort and look towards the float plane dock you will see a metal moose. That is where we are meeting. |

I believe some folks are meeting both Thursday and Friday so you should be ok. Unfortunately, I won't be there until Friday afternoon so I'll miss the swims. I'll just have to look for the HB stuff at the Friday dinner to meet up with you fine folks. |

Plan is still 8a.m. Thursday morning? I believe the swims are Thursday and/or Friday at 8am, meeting at moose #5 on the moose walk, per the map at this site: http://www.coeurdalene.org/mm/trail_map.html Before my ride yesterday, I cleaned and oiled the chain, then after, I thoroughly cleaned it, replaced the front derailleur cable, and it is now packed and ready for the Thursday morning flight from Denver to Spokane. I'm heading up with my trisherpa (10-year old son), and my wife is coming up Saturday. I'm still trying to convince him to do the kid's run Thursday night - has anyone heard any details on that? The only reference to it on the whole internet is in the ironman CDA schedule, so I'm wondering if it is really happening. I've started hydrating with EFS drink as of today, and am also going low-ish on the carbs Mon-Wed this week, and then will overload a bit Thursday and Friday. Since this is my first IM, I have no idea what will work for me. So I picked early hydration and a moderate carbo unload/reload cycle for this time around. Hopefully it works out. One thing I've messed up every race is wiping out my body marking with sunscreen - what's the right way to do this? Sunscreen well before body marking, or well after? |

8 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I dont typically sun screen over my numbers, just close to it. Would someone please tell me where I pick up my wife's welcome dinner ticket? Cant find it anywhere. I do have the receipts but no other info. I'm also assuming the tent is in City Park? Silly question for a dinner, but do you plan to eat there? I'm not sure that I want to be eating a lot of mass made spaghetti or whatever they are serving that close to before race day. I was thinking about having a small dinner before and then see how it looks. What are you plans? Thanks for the newbie help. |

Sunscreen well before body marking, or well after? Sunscreen after the body marking; Be sure to apply plenty of it over the numbers. One of my training partners just got back from doing Ironman Honu and his numbers are baked into his skin for the duration of the summer. The body marking is probably clearer now then when they first did it. |

Champion 5345 Carlsbad, California | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Had an awesome workout this morning. THIS is what attracted me to the sport of Triathlon. I did an ocean swim at Powerhouse Park in Del Mar this morning and was shadowed by a pod of dolphin almost the entire return trip. At first I thought it was the Junior Lifeguards on the beach laughing and telling jokes, but then they got closer and I could really hear (And see) them. Makes me feel very safe to see them around me. Sort of like my personal body guards. I followed it up with a great 2 mile brick run down on the sand. Del Mar is a pretty flat beach and it was low tide so I had a very firm footing. Edited by WaterDog66 2011-06-20 11:15 AM |

The kids run is a 1k race and I think is pretty low key but can get a little competitive in the 2-3 year old category. They are out of diapers for the first time and have really found their legs They don't have anything up anywhere online about it other than in the schedule I am guessing because it is not being organized by WTC. I bet they will have something more in the expo or at registration for the dash |

Veteran 490 Dallas | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Anyone total up their training log yet? Someone told me to spend an hour or so totaling my 30 week plan and study the work I've put into this race. It's freaking mind blowing. I did the 30 week Ironfit Competitive Plan with some tweaks here and there. The person who told me to do this said it will pay dividends on race day when you start to get unsure about your fitness or are in a temporary dark place. She said to remind yourself how many multiples of the distance you covered during training. I know it's not exactly the same with a bunch of smaller distances being totaled up, but still I see her point.
Think about it. - I swam 2.4 miles 62.47 times - I rode 112 miles 33.02 times - I ran a marathon 42.67 times - Will all of this allow me to put together a solid 2.4, 112, and 26.2 in one day? We will soon find out. Edited by 3Aims 2011-06-20 2:33 PM |
