Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() mighty mom - 2012-09-10 6:51 AM Ditto, Suzy! THANK YOU for tracking us all.day.long. What can I say? Swim was brutal contact the entire time. I might have had 5 min of open water. Ended up swallowing water which I think is what caused me lots of tummy trouble. I felt off right from the start of the bike and hoped after a few miles it would pass. Nope. Everything I put in my mouth other than water caused me to dry heave. I was scared out of my wits. Feeling neve left me the entire day and I still feel shaky. Definitely a day for mind over matter. More later but I need to get my finisher jacket. ![]()
Great job, ladies, CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I just got back from Madison this morning. Christina, I'm pretty bummed I didn't get to see you - and the funny thing is you finished 20 seconds ahead of one of my CES teammates! I was so focused on seeing her finish that I must have looked past you! And Suzy, glad to see you on the run! I was on sponge duty so I was running up to pass someone their sponges, I turn around to head back to the aid station and I immediately see you! I was pretty much in your face when I screeched out your name, ha! Hope that wasn't too annoying. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Warning, annoyed vent regarding BOPers "cheating". I was really sad by how many empty packets and wrappers littered the bike course. I understand sometimes things get away and accidents happen but intentional littering pisses me off, even more so when there is a rule against it. But maybe I'm just a neat freak. Then I saw a couple racers stopped at the side of the bike course with some spectators. The couple were eating out of a cooler the spectators had obviously supplied for them. In the final two hours of my race at least 50% of the racers I came across had a support team running with them or biking along side of them; providing splits, pacing support, etc. I really couldn't care less about what others did out there but I was disappointed to see so many people cheat according to my understanding of the rules. I just don't get it, why bother doing the race if you can't follow the rules? Anyway, just needed to get that out. |

Vent all you want, I agree, cheating is cheating no matter what. JMHO BTW Congrats on your finish, great job.

Short stints is one thing, from mi 16 to the finish is not right in my book. |

I just don't get it, why bother doing the race if you can't follow the rules? Anyway, just needed to get that out. Littering and eating - totally wrong. The pacing, etc issue: Last year it bothered me. This year not so much. Lots of people on the run course were riding their bikes offering support, etc. The interesting thing is that none of them had 'team or group' jerseys or anything that would identify them as a certain team or group supporter. I know our coach recommended to our supporters to not be on the run course doing that, and if our supporters elected to do it, to not wear any of our team clothing. Cheeringleading and running for a few hundred metres is fine, its when people jump in and pace people for a few kilometres is when I think it is wrong. Do me this is the same type of arguementas drafting. I think 98.54% of people know when they are drafting. If you consciously draft, then you are cheating. If you are okay doing do, then continue to do so. End of the day it's not my race. |

I agree with Trevor, except that I'm not as nice about it! the running for a bit for support is okay with me....unless you're in my way. At Boston, it was a nightmare. Kids, spouses, friends....all hopping in for a bit - but it was a horribly crowded field, and each person made a big impact. Not fair for those around you. You want a hug - head for the side of the course - (which I did, thaks again Christina!!). Don't expect your competitors to have to move to accomodate your fans. ARRGGHH. Drafting? accidents happen - you misjudge a pass, you don't fall back fast enough, etc. Deliberate stuff? I squirted Sustained Energy at a guy Saturday. Get the &*^& off my wheel!!!!!!!

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Melissa--that is me and I am actually running! Christina--I am guilty of having Brett run with me alongside the course when we were trying to figure out the back thing. You are definitely correct in the rules, but it really doesn't bother me when people do it so long as they aren't impeding progress. I think we might know this guy too: |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Funny littering story... Before Shea's 10K I told her there would be water stops. "But Mom, where will we throw away our cups??" I explained there would be trash cans, or you can throw them on the ground in the general area... She was adamant that she would NEVER throw a cup on the ground. If there wasn't a trash can, then by golly she wouldn't drink!! We did finish our drinks and toss them in the trash each time. I'm raising a good little tree-hugger, and I'm proud of it! |

No racing here, my cycling's going great but I'm still struggling with my running. The ankle tendinitis is gone but last night I did a short hilly run and my ITB flared up again! Grrrrr! I've got 3 weeks till I start my IM training plan so my aim is to be able to start running by then. I'm having a sports massage tomorrow and I'm stretching and foam rolling all the time. |

No racing here, but a couple thoughts on ITB: - the primary muscles that tighten up and pull on the ITB are the gluteus medius and the TFL - if your cycling is going great, you should also using those muscles a lot - some other muscle (quads or glutes....probably glutes) may be weak and causing you to rely more on the TFL - try backing off on the cycling intensity a bit - if you think your glutes may be a weak link, add some exercises to strengthen them (body weight squats, RDLs, etc.) |
