You guys gotta check this out.. I was online this morning and found this thing called the Internet. It has a ton of info and what's crazy is it will tell me what time the sun comes up. I don't know how it knows that, but it does. And even crazier, it knows what time the sun is going to come up... Wait for it.... Tomorrow!!!

Ha! You cyclocrossers are crazy!

LOL, last time I woke up that early the sun was up.

I was in a collision today.

In John's honor - it was with a beer truck.

I was in the bike lane (for those that know the road, on Saratoga-Sunnyvale) and the truck turned right, into a parking lot, in front of me.  I hit the truck with my left side/hand, and the road/curb with my right.  He kept going!!  I picked myself up, and followed him.  His response?  'I didn't see you.'  Mine:  'Did you feel me? or hear me?'  HE LEFT!!  That's a hit and run!!!   I'm not hurt, but I hadn't taken my race wheels off yet - so I need to get it all checked out.  I am TICKED.  Witnesses offered to call 911 - no need.  I was shaky, but with friends, and made it the 18 miles back to my car.  By the time I called the truck company, the driver HAD reported it.

Hope my wheels are okay.......

Linda I am so glad you are alright!! This type of behavior is a bunch of CRAP and this driver should at least be ticketed, but I guess that won't happen. GLAD YOU ARE OK!!

Linda, I'm so glad you're ok.  Check back with us tomorrow and let us know how the next day feels.

Doug, Sounds like you're in a good place.  Nice to have you back.

I had a couple thoughts when I was out for my 5:15am run.  Well, I had a lot of thoughts.  Mostly I was thinking how much it sucked.  There were a couple productive and useful thoughts mixed in.

1.  There was a discussion going around last week about cadance, checking in and working to hold it at a certain number--90.  One thing I have done is put songs on my ipod that are 90bpm, that way I can just jog to the music and I'm hitting my targeted cadence.

2.  How do people do LONG runs in the morning?  I got out of bed this morning at 5am, got dressed, drank a little water, and stumbled out the door.  I was afraid to eat and then try to run immediately, but I had ZERO energy.  I've heard stories of Linda doing long marathon training runs before school.  I have to be finished and home to get ready for work at 6:15-6:30am.  Swimming at 5am--no problem.  Running at 5am--HORRIBLE.  How do you do it?

i don't run nearly as long as linda, but the thing is to just get out the door.  the fist few weeks may suck, but after that its like any other thing.  i don't eat much before an early run. i think you'll be surprised about how far you can go without fueling before hand.

LINDA???

that said, looking at your logs you're having knee issues.  are you sure its smart to race this weekend?  even if it is an easy pace as sweeper.

I never ran long in the morning during the week. During the week it was always swims early morning.  Shorter runs were lunch or after work. Longer run stuff was early mornings on weekend. But that would be eat, digest, then run. Up at 5 or 6 and run at 7-8. If you are running <1hr I don't think you need much of a breaky to get through it.

Jayne, 2 years ago I woke up at 2:30 to do a long run before the school day started. This year I woke up twice so far at 3:00 on Saturdays for long runs. Like Nike says, I "Just Do it".

I'm fine!  Little stiff/sore today, not too bad.  Took bike in, it's fine.  Will submit 'crash inspection' bill to beer company.  Can't figure out a way to charge them for the chain!!

The drive wore a Sam Adams shirt.  Jeff wants me to settle for a kegerator with free refills for a year. Cool

Glad to hear you guys are both ok!

Sorry work, school and life all seem to be in overdrive at the moment so haven't had hardly any chance to get into the forums this month.

This whole school thing is taking a lot more time than I thought it would.

OMG -- so true!! I'll remember that!!

I've been up at 4am or so for long runs... Yeah, you just gotta do it. Even for shorter runs, I cannot run w/o some fuel. My blood sugar is sensitive enough that if I don't put something in my tummy I will end up in dry heaves after a few minute of exertion. Not fun. So I just eat a little bowl of granola w/soy milk and go. Runs do feel MUCH better if I take the time for some coffee. Lots of times I don't like to waste a fresh pot on an early-morning run (I'd rather savor it when I'm done), so I'll just make a Via and chug it down.

Fatty's right, if you do it every day you adjust. I don't do it every day, so when I do it's slow as all get-out. But that's OK. Slow running is better than no running at all and the miles get done.

I hope both Lindas are feeling OK and heal just fine. Bad Linda Mojo... must change that!

Thanks for the input everyone.  I think next time I'm going to try eating a little something.  I felt nauseous this morning, and I think it was my empty stomach--not a feeling I'm used to, lol.  And a little coffee.  Then it should all be good.

John,  I'm icing the knee right now.  I took 5 days off, and have been easing back into the running.  I'll be careful--promise.  Thanks for the love <3

Glad the Lindas are ok, be careful out there!

As far as early morning workouts go, I find that getting up at 5:15am every day, even on my rest day, helps, if you get into a routine it's much easier. I also refuse to listen to my negative early morning brain telling me to skip the workout. As they say: just do it...

I had a great sports massage yesterday, I went to a lady recommended by the local tri club. When I mentioned my ITB she smiled then proceeded to almost kill me with her elbow. She kept massaging my butt then telling me to relax, I had to explain that I WAS relaxed, it's just that I've got buns of steel! I'm so bruised today it's hard to sit down...

Better!!!

Starting to think about racing Napa in April!!  Who's in?  Come on, all!  They have a sprint, a mini-sprint, an oly, a half and a full!  Something for everyone!!

Swim in beautiful Lake Berryessa....run and bike in the Napa foothills.....wine at every aid station (okay, that may be a lie)

April 13-14

Well, first marathon in the bag.  4:26 unofficial (Garmin) time.  Will post up all the details in my RR, to be completed at a later date.  I promise I won't "George" it...  Thanks to all you MGers hitting me on FB - lots of inspiration out there.

And Kyla, you can tell Shea that I put all my cups and trash in the trash cans, just for her!
