Yesterday was June 19 and sadly I had my longest ride of the year to date, 53 miles  Frown

Last year at this point, I had flirted with a century at least a half dozen times

I know how you feel Sherm.  My numbers are way down.  Between my "blah" time and my knees hurting (blaming that on the bike) it has been sad.  Of course there is the 6 year old that will NOT sleep past 5:30 am on the weekends so I can't just take off earlt (she will wake everyone else in the house).  SIGH!!

Hello, hello, hello.....

Sorry - haven't been meaning to avoid y'all!  It's amazing how chaotic life gets once summer hits....

After last week's out of town stint, I've been back on track this week, and though I have NO recollection of what I posted last time here, I'm now down to 138.6 which is as low as I've been in quite awhile.  YAY!  Perfect timing, since my racing season starts this weekend.

The last few days have been really hard both to fit in workouts and to eat properly.  I am the lighting op / construction crew for a show that opened last night.  That means late nights and I start my normal day job early in the mornings...I am exhausted...and this leads to bad eating choices.  I am actually rather proud that I only missed 1 day of workouts, and I have pretty much stayed on track food wise...not as good as I would like to be, but I have not completely lost control and started binging like I normally do. I have just been so hungry the past few days.  I am hoping its my metabolism revving up combined with the extra amount of energy I am expending for the show.  Tonight is the last night of hell week.  Tomorrow I can sleep in a little.

Need motiviation!!

Hello Team Skinniers...now that the first race ever is under my belt, I need motiviation for getting back on my eating plan...as soon as I entered my "taper" phase for the first one...somehow that indicated to my body that it is now okay to eat everything in sight....as a result, I have gained a pound and stayed there (thank goodness it hasnt crept up even more).

Every morning I wake up..saying this is the day I get back on plan and I eat a very healthy/sensible breakfast, do well on my mid morning snack and have a nice healthy lunch BUT...by mid afternoon, I am counting change from my purse to head to the nearest vending machine...what gives!! I am having MAD sugar cravings, i am now stuck on animal crakcers, fig newtons and pepermint patties!!!! Cant get enough of those three things...

Granted, I have lost 20 pounds this year so my body may be a little reluctant to lose anymore but whatever, I can stand to lose more...

So, any pointers, words of advice, or some virtual kicks to the booty would be much appreciated :-)

My next race is in August and I would like to lose 6-10 pounds by then....so...help!!!

Makukula- I know what you're going through with lack of motivation. I couldn't make myself do anything for over a month until I joined the club. But as far as eating goes maybe it's time to give yourself a bit of a break? 20 pounds is a lot and your body, as you said, might be tired so how about focusing on maintenance at this point? Try to take the pressure of losing weight from your body and mind which still means eating healthy/ reasonably but with a slightly different attitude- it's like a prize for good work you've done so far. As to eating sweets it's an addiction for me and I have to fight it same way as I'm fighting my smoking- ok it's a tad bit easier with sweets. Hope that helps!!!

To keep from raiding the vending machine, I keep a 'pantry' at work. It's filled with oatmeal, 100 calorie popcorn, nuts, granola bars, etc. My workmates were making fun of me yesterday because I have so much food here at work.

Makukula,

I have had the same problem I have started working out like crazy, well... crazy compared to what I was doing before. Now I find that if I don't eat 5-6 times a day, after a long run or bike ride I will grab the M&M's out of a small child's hands.

My son sees a different side of me..

I think what we are craving is for some kind of fuel, and we are used to treating ourselves with "treats". I once had a trainer that told me that a gram of sugar is worse than a gram of fat. He really made me stay away from the sugar. Now yes I know that is extreme, because we do need some sugars, but we need the natural ones. I gained 75 lbs when I got prego (Ouch I know). That trainer helped me loose a lot of it. He also told me that if I stayed away from the sweets through the cravings period I would eventually stop craving them and I would forget somewhat what they taste like. I found this to be true for me...until I ate a candy bar which at the time was WAY too sweet. I eventually got used the sugar again.

Not sure if any of this will help?

Thanks guys :-) This is ALL very helpful..below are my next steps:

1. Focus on eating healthy, instead of "losing weight" (this definitely does take A LOT of pressure off)
2. GO GROCERY SHOPPING (this way, I can bring my lunch and snacks to work, and have a healthy backup, instead of the vending machine)
3. Eat small balanced meals and incorporate healty snacks into my day (this should prevent wierd blood sugar fluctations that convince you that eating a candy bar is the right thing to do)
4. Take stock of where I have been, where I am, and where I am going (20 pound weight loss, first triathlon and two new jobs/promotions in six months is A LOT of GOOD change...

See, thats why I love you guys...I feel ready to take on the World!

Protein and some fat...no candy.  To whomever this might apply.  Fulfill a need without EMPTY cals.

Random Accountability:

I am SUCKING!  I cannot seem to stick to the diet plan.  It's like I'm sabotaging myself and for no good reason.  I don't eat for too long and then I just eat "whatever."

Ugh.

It's NOT like I'm trying to maintain, I honestly need to lose at least 50 more pounds.

Today was:

2 Medifast meals, 1 protein bar, a little cottage cheese. (this is all good.)  Leave the school and decide for some unknown reason (i.e. major desire) to go have an iced mocha.  Which was really awesome, but definitely NOT on the Plan.

Then I just don't eat for like 4-5 hours, at which point I then eat a whole lot MORE cottage cheese (yes I know I coulda made a worse choice but still) and two frozen burritos which have like 300-400 calories apiece and I don't even want to know the amount of fat/carbs/etc.

Aaarrgghhh!!!  Just NOT happy with myself especially because I'm totally self-sabotaging here which is SO STUPID!

“Do what you always did, get what you always got.”

I think this is appropriate for a few of us at this time.  I think we are staying in our comfort zone and not allowing ourselves to grow.  I feel an urge for sweet I grab a candy bar where a lemon drop might have sufficed, but I didn't give it a chance.  Two frozen burritos at 6-800 cals where maybe a protein drink and 1 burrito (cals 450-550) would be good.  I know we can all achieve what we want, but do we really want to achieve.  Every day look in the mirror and ask that question,  If the answer is YES then make today the first day of achieving.  Tomorrow will be another first day of achieving your goals since you are growing every day.

Hola peeps!!!

Just came back from doing a 5K. Last year I ran this same race, it was my first race EVER and I finished in 35:33..so it was an immediate PR. When I did my triathlon last week I did the 5K portion in 35:34, so that was close to my PR, during a race no less. With that time, I was optimisitic about this year's 5K race.

Well today I did my 5K race and I did it in 32:56 (gun time); 32:48 (chip time). That is almost a full THREE MINUTES off of my old PR (comparing gun times)!!!! WOO HOOOO!!!!!!

I cried when I was done, while getting my post race hug. I just cant believe everything I have accomplished since that race last year...and I am PROUD!!! And very greatful that my boyfriend has been there every step of the way..he hugs me after every race :-)

This is EXACTLY the boost I needed :-) Going mountain biking after a nap!!

Tootles!

Well since we're talking nutrition today.... I've totally sucked.

1/4 cup cereal, 1/2 cup milk 2%

1 20 oz. 7up

and that's it! I'm so run down, too tired to even eat right now. Probably get some greek yogurt w/sliced strawberries... last night I crashed for almost 17 hrs.

I'm thinking of scratching wk 6 of the program and just start it over come monday. I'll have to sleep on it.

Wow, we all have are pitfalls. You don't eat enough to keep a bird alive and have no energy, I eat enough for me, you and  a small village to live off and can't digest fast enough to get in a good workout. Lets find some middle ground and we'll all be better off Wink

Thanks Sherm,  This dang Team is getting me thinking all the time.  It hurts this old guys brain.  Every one's success or failure tends to make me think of what I am doing or not doing and what I can or can't do.  Going for a walk tomorrow again and see how knees hold up.  Once I know they are good I have a challenge to propose.
