Since I;m the only girl going on this excursion AND I have signed up to volunteer for a large portion of the day, I am getting my mani and pedi the day before we leave.  I have also scheduled a massage the same day.  We are also taking our 16 y/o sons with us and I don't want them sitting in the hotel room in front of the game system during most of the race, so they are volunteering too.

Not to throw McFuzz under the bus but.... In years past my wife and daughter have gone to the CDA Resort Spa for a manicure / pedicure while I've been out on the bike.

Some days, I certainly feel like I've been thrown under the bus.

In this respect, spectating at an IM is probably easier than sprints, because there is so much time to really go do something else.

I have no idea how my wife gets two little kids around town and manages to see me pass by all the time.  I know she is exhausted at the end of the day.  I don't know if i can say spectating an IM would be easier than a Sprint.

We chose to sign up for and train all year for this, our spouses just get thrown in to the mix.

Yup - our spouses deserve just as much credit for crossing the finish line as we do.  I consider myself lucky to have such a wonderful partner who 'gets' why I do these things and supports this insane habit.  After this is all over, I owe her some alone training time of her own.

Mine what to kill me...she is ready for this to be over. We have a 13 year old, 6 year old, and a 2 year old. The older girls do pretty well but our 2 year old boy IS a 2 year old. I try and help her by taking him out one the MTB to to give her a break.

I feel for you.  Not easy to juggle it all.

My sons are both in college, and my wife continues to support after 5 years of IM...

I more than support you....remember, I'm the one that says..." go ride your bike, be careful, and don't be a baby!" I am looking forward to seeing you on the CDA course again.  And yes, I am ready for some longer training blocks...so I think I jes might take you up on that.

We'll be arriving in CdA three weeks from today.

I'd definitely like to meet up for a BT lunch/dinner before the race.  What is everyone's preferences?  Anyone local willing to suggest places and make a reservation?

I get into town Thursday afternoon and would be up for anything.  At the very least we should meet Friday morning for the swim and then again for the Athlete's Dinner on Friday night.

Any idea on water temps? I checked out the link that was posted earlier, but i think this gives temps at the bottom, not surface temps...

12C as of yesterday, but I think you are right it's at the bottom, so that would be worst case.  I think we need at least 18C to be close to the comfort zone, 20C would be better (20C is 68 degrees F).

I plan on swimming on Friday (6/19).  I can be flexable on time but right now my plan is to show up around 8:30, hit the water by 8:45, swim for around 45 minutes, and then go and check in at 10:00am when the tent opens.  Anyone that would like to join me is invited.  Lets plan to meet next to the water fountain above the concrete steps overlooking the swim course (in years past this is the same area the Gatoraid has their check in table).  If most people want to swim earlier then I can do that instead.

You're right, the temp sensor is at the bottom but it's only in 6 feet of water.  It's also about 1/2 mile downstream from where the river exits the lake.  As of right now it's reading about 61.5 degrees and I'll bet the surface temp is probably a degree warmer maybe.  Good enough for me...I'll be swimming in it this weekend.

Wow... if we can hang on to this high pressure system that's giving the Northwest beautiful weather, the water will be perfect on race day.

Doing a fun sprint in Seattle tomorrow AM just to break-up the training.  One last big day on Sunday, then it's taper time.

Good luck everybody. I did CDA last year and had a blast. I didn't do particularly well but still had a great time. You can read about my (mis)adventures here - http:\\jlorelle.blogspot.com.

Swam in the lake this morning and the water was fine.  A little chilly the first couple minutes but I didn't even have to wear a neoprene cap or booties.  No problems for race day...should be perfect.

I will be volunteering in bike sag this year. I'm local to the area and would be more then happy to help out any BTers that need some local help.

I would love to meet up with any BTers racing (or volunteering). If we can get a consensus on time I would be happy to make reservations.
