Redknight - 2009-01-05 12:38 PM Question for you techies. On my screen the writing goes way over to the right. Can I adjust the screen so it will all show at the same time and I don't have to shift to the right to read everything.

I think it is a BT thing, mine has been doing the same thing all day.

IT'S OFFICIAL, I SIGNED UP FOR MY FIRST HIM LAST NIGHT!!!!  MAY 2ND AT 7AM.  WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?!!?!?!?Cry  The thing that amazes me the most is how many people race this particular race. There is a sprint one day and a half the other, each with a 700 people cap. Plus they do this 2weekends in a row to allow for more racers, and all four races (2800 people) sold out within 3 hours of opening the registration.  Crazy!!!!

Tracy you are officially NUTS!! Congrats!!! Welcome.  I can't wait to cheer you on VIA CYBERSPACE throughout the year!! NICE!!!!

It's not that bad.... Consider this... 6+ hours of pain, hunger, muscles aching, eating GU's (and fighting the "GU-AHREA" aka diahrea) sucking down water and gatorade... And the training that goes with this... I mean giving up your weekends only so you can get a 4hr bike ride in, followed by a 90 minute run the next day!!! It is totally worth it !!!!

I am just playing!  This is a great accomplishment, and every second of training is worth the feeling you get in the last 100 yards of the race.... Even when you see family and friends hollering for you as you come out of the water... Etc... etc... etc...  It is a great day!

Which one?  Too lazy to go look at your profile.

I am seriously considering one this year, I know I can do the bike and run no problem but my swimming is just so bad right now, will see how the swim goes.  Was looking at Patriots HIM in Williamsburg.

My wife is doing Mooseman 1/2, I am doing the Olympic the day before if I ever get around to signing up.

Tracy - refuse to let negativity enter your mind so early in the process.  It puts too much pressure on things.  Get excited about picking a plan, train to it and you will do GREAT!

Can someone talk to me about rollers? I was at my bike class today and the coach was going on and on about how rollers would make me a better biker.  She has them and wants to get me on them this Friday.  It kinds of seems like a giant invitation to fall flat on my .....no?

Hey, don't call me a pansy!  I was thinking of a 1/2 IM in July, but just pushed it back to September!  Maybe you and I can give each other some moral support while the rest of the group is doing 1/2IMs in May and probably IMs in June.

Knee pain:  thanks for all of your concern.  So after looking at a few anatomy charts (legitimate one about my knee)...

It looks like the biceps femoris, long head is where it's sore.  Right behind my left knee.  I imagine that it's do to my bike's brake issue during my trainer ride the other day.  It feels like a pulled muscle.  I'm really not to concerned about it.  Rice pack and some Flex All gel seems to work.

I'm guessing that my ride today wasn't such a good idea, but I felt good enough to complete it.

I'm doing the White Lake tri as part of the SetUp Events series.  I too would rather be doing a half later in the summer, but I promised a friend at work I would do this race with him.  If you think I'm in for a tough time, it'll be this guys first tri EVER!!!!  Talk about biting off a big piece!

The only rollers I know of are rolling hills, so I'll be interested in what the explaination is.

I've always wanted to try them out.

Check out some of the mishaps on youtube.  They are funny!

I have rollers.  I love them.  I do think that they help improve overall control of the bike, though I'm not ready to attempt to ride without hands yet.

I only tried wheel mount trainers once and what I didn't like about those was that it wasn't like being on a bike... I know I was on a bike, but for me it wasn't fun.

The rollers on the other hand are just like riding a bike (again, to me).  You have to learn to balance yourself and really control your bike.  As if you were out on the road, if you don't focus on where you're going, you will crash.  LOL.  For me, rollers make the ride more authentic.

A friend of mine used to work at a bike shop and said that basically, use wheel mount if you want to gain leg strength for biking faster, and rollers if you want to be a better cyclist.

I find these videos motivational:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAvVcNxGlR0

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MiCdm5FsJpg

Here's my first time on the rollers (I know I'm a dork):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DG-aja0OPAM

I also modified my rollers with 'training wheels' as a suggestion from another friend, helps control your front wheel so it doesn't slip off, basically you'll bounce off the skateboard wheel and stay on the rollers... but you still have to control the rebound bounce off the other wheel.  I've gotten much better in little time.  I can stay on the rollers without jumping off or falling off now, upwards of an hour.  I'd be happy to show more if anyone is truly interested.
