I'm so excited so see my progress! Yea me! My family can't believe it. Either can I frankly. It is huge to have your family excited for you. I feel so lucky when my girls or son ask me to take them to the Y as they want to swim, strength train or take a class with me. | |

Ummm...skiing is part of an Ironman isn't it?? No?? I had better get my a$$ to the pool....... I talked to my prospective coach last night (he also runs the speedwork sessions I go to). He said that for Timberman he will start coaching me at the beginning of February, so I guess I still have a couple of weeks of mucking around on my own before I start a structured training program. It will be kind of nice to have someone tell me exactly what to do every week. Or maybe I will hate it! Have a great day everyone!

(tonight's will say DAY OFF!!!! and i can't be more excited!) I just printed out a BIG 140 because that's my goal weight for 05/10/09 and i like the 'visualize your goal' mentality so that's going up in my cube in a minute! I'm off to Chicago tomorrow @ 7am so you may not hear from me for a while... Saturday is a BIG 5 MILE RUN along Lake Michigan and it's gonna be COLD but i'm excited because i've been stuck on the treadmill lately... I'm back Monday nite! Happy Workouts Everyone!!

I will be able to ride next Thursday, but I will be off on Friday and so I won't really gain any biking time. The hardest part of triathlon training for me is getting in the bike miles. I did a Half Ironman in 2003 and the bike leg almost killed me - literally. I don't have a problem doing races for which I am undertrained, but that was too much. I need bike miles and no time to get them. Poor me. |

Bike is where I fear I'll slack the most - my rear hasn't gotten used to sitting on the trainer without hurting after a short period of time, and it does get boring fast. Switching between drainer at home and spin class will help, and I probably need to get my hands on some Spinervals dvds. Has anyone ever used cycling training mp3s? I have a good Lance Armstrong running interval training one that I've used more than a dozen times and recently thought that one for cycling might be great. Only thing is that I can't for the life of me figure out how to search for one on iTunes! I keep getting all sorts of weird results. Anyone used any or know of any titles? |

Anyone used any or know of any titles? can you set up your trainer in front of a TV? I spent many hours last winter watching movies or just recording my fav shows (csi, law and order, intervention) and watching those. It made the time go by way quicker. The more you try it, the more accustomed your butt will get to your saddle. Good luck! I've just tried one spinnervals dvd but it was a time trial thing that came w/ the trainer and it was crazy confusing. It kept telling me to shift gears every 20 seconds or so and keep cadence at a certain level and truthfully, it was more mentally draining trying to keep up with what they were telling you to do. Santa brought me a Lake Placid IM spinnerval dvd but I haven't popped it in yet... happy training! |

Master 2146![]() ![]() ![]() East Side of the Bay | Subject: RE: QUEEN ZIP & KathyG - CLOSEDHi everyone, thanks your thoughts and suggestions about gels, shots etc. I will try a few things out in prep for my 1st half in Feb. I figure since my long runs are now 90 minutes or more it's a good time. I have never tried to consume calories while competing but remember feeling out of gas during the run at my last sprint so figure it is time. For those working on weight loss one of the things that has helped me tremendously this year is trying to consume 5 servings of vegetables and 2 servings of fruit a day. It means that I snack on hummus and veggies in the afternoon, often have soup or salad for lunch with a little protein and eat a veggie and maybe a salad at dinner. It keeps me full, provides me with something crunchy to munch on when stressed and the improved nutrition has helped lower my BP. Just thought I'd put it out there. I teach a spin class twice a week. I have literally 100s of playlists with plans for cadence, resistence changes etc. If anyone is interested I can post 1 or 2 a week on my blog. I have been using Jorge's Increase Your Cycling Power plan in class and will post my playlist for tonight's class later. Most of the time you can use the beat of the music as your cadence if you want. That means that on a slower song (rpm in 70s) you would increase the resistance to simulate a hill, while most flats are in the upper 80s - 100 rpm. Many people like to ride with a constant cadence which is fine on the road but I think gets a little boring inside. |

Many people like to ride with a constant cadence which is fine on the road but I think gets a little boring inside. That would be AWESOME if you posted some of those! I think in iTunes you can search for songs by bpm, so if I know what to do when in the routine I can probably build a playlist, too. I've been doing the constant cadence thing indoors so far, which is really dullsville. And thanks for the input on the fruit and veggies. I know they help with fullness, but I definitely need reminding of these things! Making those servings a priority sounds like a good move. And good to hear you've seen results on your bp-- mine's anywhere between borderline high and high, so I've got another reason to watch my intake. I was formerly on a diuretic a couple years ago, and couldn't bear to take it when I was doing 4-6+ mile races in the summer cause I was feeling so bad when I did... but then found out I'm one of those 3%ers who is allergic to it so it's debatable whether or not that was just the typical dehydration side effect profile or what. Either way, it felt silly to be eating or drinking salty electrolyte balancers while taking bp meds... Off to the pool! |
