Expert 1074 Madison, MS | Subject: RE: Team Fall-dippides - November Challenge Hi, team! We're back from Florida and the craziness of no Internet (first 5 days) and family (second 5 days). Posting should be much easier now. Because I took a week off to try and heel my PF, I went ahead and adjusted my goals for the month, using Dee's formula. I actually tacked on a few extra miles because I know I will run more than 100 miles this month (unless the PF blows up...fingers crossed it behaves). Got a little run in last night in the drizzle and wind. I'll run speed or hills this evening after work with my marathon training team. Should be a great mileage week as I have a 3:15 run scheduled for Saturday. I hope I fare better than my dismal 3-hour run last week. I would love to see in excess of 18 miles in that time. |

Master 4119 Toronto | Subject: RE: Team Fall-dippides - November Challenge xTriRiTrix - 2009-11-17 10:08 AM Hey folks, I knocked out another two sessions in the pool last night. Not as consistent on the whole. Felt a little like I was flailing in the water. LOL Thankfully, my shoulder has been fine (touch wood everywhere!) but last night when I was doing my water running, my left knee started to hurt. Thankfully after sleeping, it's been okay this morning. I'm guessing a fair amount of the knee thing is due to carrying too much weight around my middle. I'm hoping that I can see some of that go with time. The plan for tonight is lifting and water running and some more swimming. Woo! Ri P.S. My quote of the day: "There's a lot of blood, sweat, and guts between dreams and success." ~ Paul "Bear" Bryant haha! I have lots of days where I feel like i am flailing in the water or just the slowest swimmer out there ... Great job! And that's great that the knee didn't hurt this morning! |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Team Fall-dippides - November Challenge 18 miles looks doable for you in that time frame. Remember to not start out too hot or the last 3 miles will be unpleasant. That jump from 13-15 to 18-19 miles is significant. What is your goal pace for the workout 10:30-10:45 mpm? Zone 1-2 (of 5) 8 mile run planned for me today, swimming intervals tomorrow, mile repeats thursday, 700 mile drive Saturday and race early Sunday. Looks like it is going to be a crazy week here. I may drop off the radar internet wize next week as I will be in Santa Barbara with family. I bet they don't have any snow down there. |

I have to leave Friday from the Bay Area and head to Southern California (Temecula) for the race on Saturday morning. Maybe a little hectic, but at least after the race I'll have time to spend with family that live in the area. What race are you doing Sunday? |

Run planned with UTTriman (Brett) tomorrow morning. He's visiting the pre-frozen tundra... Pretty cool... the wonders of BT. Where else do you meet up with a guy from another state and end up training together? Enjoy! Well, Brett actually lived in MN before the weather got to him and he moved to TX. So we already know each other. BUT, I HAVE trained with people I've 'met' on BT in Atlanta and UT, and have met up or trained with BT peeps here in Minneapolis from out of state (UT, NE, GA, CA and WI). BT is a great social forum...it was the great pre-cursor to Facebook (and isn't as heavily monitored at work like Facebook). Edited by sparco 2009-11-17 1:53 PM |

But they don't call it "TRY-athlon" for nothing. I managed to "keep my eyes on my own paper" for the most part, but the competitive part of me wanted to be able to hold pace with her. LOL Oh well, I'll get there (or not), but no matter what, I'll have fun in the meantime. That's why I love BT. Ri |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Team Fall-dippides - November Challenge That 25 mph+ wind kept things interesting today. Nearly a 1:00 mpm difference headwind tailwind. Energy level not great. I am not sure where the leak in my energy level is. Some days I am alright then the next day I got nothing. Today is a got nothing day. Oh well. I am doing the Santa Monica 30k Trail run near Malibu on Sunday. My parents are in Santa Barbara. We can wave at each other on the 5 going south after I have driven the 400 miles to catch up to where you will intersect the 5 that is. If there is bumper to bumper traffic and you see some guy go by on the shoulder riding a Felt S22, that's me. I'll just jump off the back and get my ride in for the day 8). Ah the swim. Last winter I was in the pool at the same time as the swim team. How to feel incompetent in the water. Having schools of 10 year old girls passing you every other lap is not so ego boosting. My only joy in swimming last year came when my IM swim was at a faster pace than my HIM swim. Of course there were no whitecaps for the IM and the bouy didn't break free and blow down wind and such. |

Hey that's a PCT trail run! Have you done any of these before? I'm running a 17k in Woodside on 12/5, which is put on by this organization. For 2010, I was going to try I run the intermediate distances (17k and 35k) with this group. |

Master 1887 Brentwood, CA | Subject: RE: Team Fall-dippides - November Challenge Oh, and by the way, if it makes you feel any better, I have to drive about 100 miles past Santa Monica. Not to mention, I'm the dumb one that decide to do the tri in November. Not looking forward to T1; I'm not even sure how I'm going to dress. Plus, forecast is calling for rain on Friday. |

Expert 1157 Tremonton, Utah | Subject: RE: Team Fall-dippides - November Challenge brick94513 - 2009-11-16 1:28 PM OMG, rough workout today. First tempo run since I recalculated my paces using Jack Daniel's Vdot formula. Definately doable, but I was working, probably about a RPE of 7 to 8. Anyways, here's what it looked like (fairly flat, road coarse): mile 1 (warm @ e/l pace): 8:16 start tempo (threshold pace @ 6:52): mile 2: 6:45; HR 159 mile 3: 6:57; HR 157 mile 4: 6:49; HR 163 mile 5: 6:48; HR 166 mile 6: 6:55; HR 168 mile 7: 6:49; HR 168 end tempo mile 8 (cool @ e/l pace): 8:33 Has anyone else used the Vdot to establish pace times? If so, curious about your experience, opinions, etc. I'm planning on using these paces until I get in to do my VO2 max test.
WOW! Don't know what VDOT is, but those are smokin FAST times. Way to get at it!!! |

Now it's catch up on e-mail and try to get some rest so I can keep up with Sparco in the morning! |

Expert 1007 Hattiesburg, Mississippi | Subject: RE: Team Fall-dippides - November Challenge Greetings folks! Today is a longish run today. In general it's been a lower volume week in my training plan. It's always hard to do these, but necessary to keep me fresh. I don't think I will go over 13 miles and may do just 11 or 12. Next week I'll be back up to my next goal of 14 miles. I'll check back later... |

I need to start wearing it more so I am not so confined to the rails-to-trails pathway. I want more freedom to just run wherever on my long runs, do some exploring. |

Expert 1157 Tremonton, Utah | Subject: RE: Team Fall-dippides - November Challenge CAN YOU SPELL HILLS! H-E-L-L!!! Well met up with Sal (Sparco) as was planned today. Was great to meet up with an old friend, and catch up as it were. I picked the route, and well, let's just say that in some circles (including my own) I chose somewhat poorly. No regrets, was a great run, and given the intensity of the hills (1 mile nearly 300 foot drop followed by 1.5 mile nearly 300 foot climb, and repeat) I'm happy. Legs are gonna be talking later. But, we didn't overkill it, we just paced what felt comfortable (well I did, Sal may have held back a little) and got it done. Whew! No for a day full of meetings

Master 4119 Toronto | Subject: RE: Team Fall-dippides - November Challenge Good morning all! Feeling just a tad sleepy this morning. I did get a swim in this morning so that's good news. I really like getting a swim in before work. Just feels so good knowing its done and i don't have to do it later. Things are a bit quieter in the office so hopefully I can be productive and check somethings off the list. It's tempting to just relax but there's still so much to do! Looks like i'll be able to get a catch up ride in this evening so i'll be nearly caught up with what i missed in last week's insanity! Anyway, keep up the great work everyone!! |
