kuotaguy - 2011-10-10 9:22 PM This will be my first IM with a salt water swim. Anyone factor that into your sodium plan as far as nutrition is concerned for the early parts of the race?

Swim should supply most of my salt intake for the entire event Yell

Thanks to the chop last year, I think I took in enough salt for the next couple of year's racing...

My plan includes a small bottle of water in my changing bag at T1 to rinse my mouth out.

Thanks for the reminder!  Plain water worked for me after my few ocean swims.

Now if someone could mix in some magnesium and potassium with the incoming tide we would have a better electrolyte profile

I've found it helpful to keep a few tums in T1 in case the salt water upsets my tummy

Ginger Ale before the swim will help keep the stomach cool and if it's choppy prevent sea sickness....Well it makes me feel better

looks like low tide is 10am on October 22, that said around 1pm we should have similar conditions with the currents as race day. I will be in Wilmington that day and wouldn't mind another practice swim if anyone is interested.

I think I did my last big run (20mi) last weekend.  And it came day after finishing my highest vol week (18+hrs).  Ran 10+k last PM & my foot (same one I broke toe on in Muncie last July) is sill sore today.  Will not run today, then maybe try 10-12mi this weekend along with a longish (~3hr) ride.

As the saying goes- better under- than over-trained when you hit that start line.

x2.  Remember, we're two weeks out and you should tapering.  During the taper, your fitness level for the race is pretty much set (assuming you don't completely stop training).  That being said, make sure you REST!  I'd highly recommend people take it easy, especially on the running from this point on as it looks like a few people might be overdoing it a little bit.  At this point, you've either put the time/work in or you haven't and there isn't anything you can do that is going get you get you more prepared for the race.  Sit back a bit and let your body recover from your hard work and get ready to have a terrific race in two weeks!

FWIW, some of the best days I've ever had at long-course have happened when I did virtually nothing the two weeks before the race.

lol, perhaps.  Smile  The 4hr ride is a bit long, but I can live with that.  But I'd really be careful about that 2hr run on Sunday.  Running puts the most stress on your body of the 3 disciplines.  Less than 2 weeks out from an IM, I wouldn't do a run longer than an hour and half, tops.

Its extremely natural for you to feel extra tired during your taper.  You're finally giving your body a real chance to recover from all the training you've done.  This might be a stretch and I don't have any proof of it, but I honestly also think your body knows what your about to put it through and wants to be as well prepared as possible for the big day so it wants to sleep as much as possible.  If that's the case, listen to your body and rest, rest, rest!

For those of you that are on the other side of the fence and are having trouble sleeping, just do your best to rest up as much as possible.  My guess would be you're thinking about the race quite a bit (as we all are) and this causing some stress/anxiety...?  If so, just try to relax and stay positive.

Who knows if we can trust a 15 day forecast, but I'll take this on race day with a smile on my face:

Unless I am looking at it wrong it says 100% of heavy rain.  Hopefully they are wrong.
