As I look back on the experience it changed my life for the better, but during the run, I wasn't having so much fun in the sun and heat....I'm looking forward to a better time this year....hope to see you out there and remember to smile when you see the camera!! |

Member 9 KANSAS CITY | Subject: RE: Ironman Kansas 70.3 : Official Thread PItbullzz- Your post literally had me laughing out loud! I am pretty much in your same situation although to a much lesser degree. Training was going well. As a single mom working full time, it was all working. I trained differently this time (this would have been my 4th IMKS!) bought a new tri bike and things were good. Until.... a dog bit me on a run a week ago. Seriously..... a chihuahua!!! So long story short, I am getting MRI results back Friday morning but they are pretty sure my foot is cracked. So, I already missed all of last week... and now this week. I cant pull off a Half with that kind of training so close! I cant even walk without pain so there is no way this is going to happen. I also had no one coming out with me (and I live 45 min away!)! It really had me bummed out... and I wasnt looking forward to it. However... the crowd support is wonderful!!! People will be cheering you on even though they dont know you! So in my pity party I'm now holding for myself.... I bought tickets to dine with Chrissie! This pity party is getting expensive though! If your back is still bothering you, I highly suggest a chiropractor!!!! I had hip issues right before the dog bit. I was better after 4 visits with her! No pain meds at all. I hope things heal well for you. Mentally... you will get through it. It's tough but well worth it! I'll see you at dinner on Friday night! I'll be the one in the nice black boot! LOL |

Veteran 369 Cabot, Arkansas | Subject: RE: Ironman Kansas 70.3 : Official Thread Well, u better not be wearing the same boots as me. Mine are black as well, 2 inch heels, with a zip-up side...uh wait...nevermind. HaYeah, it's the oddest things that happen, but I totally respect your honesty. I mean I would have said it was the BIGGEST dog that I have ever seen and I had to pry it's jaws off with my bicycle pump.It sucks, but that's life sometimes. I guess in my older years I learn to roll with the punches. If u see me before I see ya, come say hi. I'll be the bald guy in flip flops and tattoos covering both of my shins from ankle to knee.Sean |

I will be the first one to get "chicked" and am perfectly okay with that - slow swimmer, mediocre bike, and REALLY slow on foot! :-) Dude, you will still be in front of me at the finish line, so save me a beer! As long as I finish and am vertical, I will be happy! |

I bought a foam roller and have been using it 2 or 3 times a day. How bad am I going to feel if I can finish this thing? |

Veteran 241 Waterloo, IL | Subject: RE: Ironman Kansas 70.3 : Official Thread triplebypat, I've been watching for the Athlete Guide too. I had expected it by today. Oh well, swim waves are announced and the rules and regulations page has been updated. The nerves are starting to kick in. I have a swim/bike brick tomorrow and an 1:20 run scheduled for Sunday then nothing but shorter workouts until race day. I tried the Ironman Perfrom drink that is to be available on the course. I finally found it at GNC. I used it last night for my run and I now know I cannot drink too much of it. I found the mixed berry flavor too acidy. |

Veteran 369 Cabot, Arkansas | Subject: RE: Ironman Kansas 70.3 : Official Thread OK...another NEWB Wetsuit Question... I am by far a great swimmer. For some reason I can't even float on my back which is odd. I figure with my size, there's gotta be some parts of me that float. I try to get on my back and I just sink... Anyways. I train in board shorts. I know it is tougher than a tri-suit or wet-suit, but I figure if it works me out a bit harder in training, it will be a bit easier in the race. My goal is to make it through the swim, and then get off the bike by 4:30. I accepted that with my Natural Disaster Issues and Back Injury...finishing this is now my goal. I swam REAL slow and relxed the other day and did 800 yards in 20:00. I just wanted a nice slow pace as to not burn out. Now...how much more will my wet-suit really help? As far as ease through water and keeping my body afloat a bit more?

As far as ease through water and keeping my body afloat a bit more? With a wetsuit on you can almost float on top of the water without exerting an once of energy. But that's me and my 165-170 lb frame. But the more on top of the water you are, particularly when aided by a wetsuit, the less water resistance you encounter. Which means you'll be faster, not by leaps and bounds, but faster than sans wetsuit. Right now, based on current water temps and predicted air temps, I'm thinking the water is going to be too warm come race day for wetsuits . . . . or exactly 76.1* F. Cool, thanks. yeah they said last year in the morning, the water was "mysteriously" cool enough for a wetsuit. Ha Unless they totally ban them(due to temp), I think since I spent the loot, I'll use mine. I wont be near the head of the pack anyways. |
