QueenZipp - 2011-02-14 9:31 PM Thanks, Rachael and Emma......I'm in a really hard place right now and trying to sort out what this means for me......
It means you can't run. BUT it doesn't mean you need to become a couch potato. Are you allowed to walk? And there's always your pretty BIKE. And there's swimming, too. Maybe you can "become one" with the water. It doesn't even mean you need to give up Tri's. You could still compete as part of a relay team.....

surely you jest!

I barely tolerate swimming

I *heart* swimming. So of course I don't jest about this.

But yes, I figured the comment would get a reaction from you. LOL

*Sigh* OK, even I am saddened by that picture..... Here. You can borrow a cattle prod. Go prod someone. (It always makes *me* feel better.....)

haha, will it work to prod my legs inot cooperation?

It might. And if it doesn't, you can use it to prod someone else into cooperation.

QueenZipp - 2011-02-15 12:06 PM Ya'll are the BEST.  Thanks.....I am really down today.....just want to curl up in a corner and go cry....
Hm. Well. OK. You can do that. For awhile. Then you need to come out of the corner and get on the bike. Or, I suppose you could put the trainer in the corner, set up your bike on it --- and stay in the corner while pedaling. What did the doctor say? How long will this take to heal?

I have not been back to DrStupid Head since September.  He took me out of the boot and handed me the sleeve. No instruction....basically "have a nice life" , NEXT......so it is all between my awesome PT and I.

Had a long discussion with my husband about it last night.....he doesn't trust the PT now.  However, if I go back to Dr StupidHead I will pretty much be referred back to the PT with the instructions to do whatever Awesome  PT man says and come see me in a month (why, to pay a co pay for you to do not a blessed thing??)

I am HOPING, though not overly optimistic, that this one won't be as long a rehab as the other one since it didn't actually tear.  Theoretically should be another 4-6 weeks......seems way too long.

Not sure how many doctors you saw the first time...  Is there a Dr. SlightlyLessStupidHead you could try for a different opinion?

Dr StupidHead is in a very large practice.....I am not sure that I am all that fond of any of the guys in that group after my experiences with the office.
Another group will want me to see their PT's and I have a relationship and TRUST the AwesomeWonderful PT I have spent the past 6 months with (as long as he doesn't punt me off on his associate again!)
I have come quickly to the realization that most orthopedic guys are good at putting bones back together....and some are even good with microvascular repairs like hand tendons and such.....but the real work of recovery is done in the PT office.

This made me smile because I work in a physiotherapy clinic.

Judi - does your PT work with any other doctors? If so, maybe one of them does Sports Med? 'Cause it sounds like a sports doctor might be more useful than DrStupidHead an orthopedic dr.

Heh, I'm dealing with doctors too. So far, I'm classifying them all in the DrStupidHead category, too.

rh8463 - 2011-02-16 3:04 PM Oh, and my exciting news for the day! After giving up on getting a match until April, I have a fight booked in for 10 days time (Feb 26th - talk about late notice) and one 3 weeks after on March 19th!
I have to cut 1-2kg for the one next weekend and then can eat a bit more and put 1-2 back on for the March fight. So, training is stepped up for me even more for the next week. Can't wait!

Wow!  Sounds exciting!  Good luck with the prep!

Well gee. Are there any other sports med doctors around? Specifically, ones that refer people to the same PT person?

The other one was a flake....I saw her for my torn hip flexors and SHE took multiple personal phone calls during my appointmsnts  (nanny and husband) and both she and her staff were repeatedly late for appointments with no explanation.  As in the staff is sitting at the desk chatting, I have signed myself in AND paid my copay but the in office staff "didn't know" I had gotten there.

Such a shame you aren't over here because we have the absolutely best physio and exercise health department here. Just bumped into my physio at the coffee shop actually. They have magically fixed several problems I have had and I have heard glowing reports from other people of them fixing some major long term problems.

Things are looking up.

My awesome PT tried accupressure techniques on both legs today which brought immense relief to my legs almost immediately.

I can ride 45 minutes easy effort outside this weekend.  More than I thought I would be allowed, but not as much as I want Tongue out
He's glad I am having my bike fit rechecked to make sure there's no issues contributing to my gastrocs.

His office is next to a Japanese restaurant so I just ate some wonderful sushi and seaweed salad for dinner too.

So, as many of you know I have a hard time planning my races for whatever reasons... Yesterday morning I said "that's it!" and signed up for one I have been going back and forth about that happens on July 24. There. The first event is booked. Now I need to ho and hum over what to do with the rest of the season... I find it so difficult.

Here's the situation... i was thinking about doing an olympic distance this year, but I would want it at the end of season (September). I have  a repeat of my first sprint distance on Sept 4th that I would like to do again, and my second (still working on first, so it might be deleted from the plans depending on how that goes) half marathon on Sept 25th. The only choice would be one of the two weekends in between and would leave me doing a lot of racing in one month, especially since I'm newer. My current (for today... haha) plan is to finish my first half marathon (May 22) then decide if I want the olympic distance or the half marathon in September. There's always 2012.

Melissa,

I would leave the Oly til next year if you are looking at the repeat sprint and another HM for September.  Don't burn out.

THe accupressure was cool, they could feel the muscles relax in their hands right before I would notice the difference.

That's what I'm thinking. I just do this for fun - so I want to keep it that way!

So the verdict is: oly or HM, choose one. I will choose after the first HM. The one in September is called "island girl", it's run on Toronto Island and has a Hawian theme. It sounds like a lot of fun! The finisher medals are in the shape of a flip flop. This is why I'm so set on this event if I enjoy my first one...

I was looking at the Disney races too! Right now I'm too slow and it says online that they'll pick me up in a van and transport me to the finish line... tempting, but I would rather run there.

Take your time and heal, once you're back up to speed maybe we can get some of the BT princesses together for a race.
