That's not even a little funny....us flatlanders see about a 5,000 ft elevation change there, T.

On another note, I am a little ticked off at my body right now.  When I started IM training, I weighed about 225 lbs, and my plan was to get down to 185-190 by race day.  Now, after months of a$$-whipping for hours on end, and reasonably decent nutrition....I am 215-218.  How in the world is it so impossible for me to lose this extra inner tube?

Looks like I'll be the only 6 foot, 215 pounder with a spare tire on race day.

There you go again, looking at the glass as half empty.  You missed the fact that there is no ice on the lake.

GREAT point!!  But if there was ice on the lake, I could wear skates and go really fast on  the swim!!  Actually, the course looks very pretty.  I'll probably be so lost in how pretty the place is that the hills won't bother me!

No idea what 6% for 1/2 mile actually feels like, but the pics sure make the place look pretty nice.  Next time you go out, take some pics of some nice FLAT sections for me, ok??

Update on lake temp.  Went from 49 to 59 just in three days last 10 days ago.  Weather is a little cooler for last couple of days (poured yesterday).  Lake is 61 at Sanders Beach so getting to mid or high 60's should happen.  Not to bad right now.  Great pictures T.

Good pics T.  I'll try to remember to take the camera with me next time I ride the course too...maybe get a shot up the hill on W Riverview for our southern, flatland brethren!    Really, the hills aren't that bad.  Y'all will do just fine.  Like Brandt said, just enjoy the scenery and you won't even notice those little climbs.

How about bugs, wasps/hornets?  After yesterdays attack, I still have a small dime size welt...  Does anyone else get bugs that slam into the vents of the helmet?

OldAG, I started out around 211/212lbs in December (slacked off after Seattle Marathon), I've only got down to 204/205.

I'm concerned about the breakdowns that seem to crop up now.  Sore Hamstrings, sore metatarsals, getting a left earache.   I might need to start a 33 day taper.

I'm new to the forum (Thanks ChuckyFinster), and this will be my first Ironman! I was worried about my heartrate not coming down after starting out on the run, but I'm not anymore. I did a 70 mile ride and followed it with a 5 mile run this weekend, and my hr stabalized after about 20 minutes. So, I'm ready in a physical sense, but still working on the mind. Reading these posts and running into people this last week that are training for this same event has helped. Keep up the good work! It's coming fast!

Spence,
I might like to join you on that taper! Booked 3 massages for the next 3 Wednesdays!

Thought I would also add this; a guy down here takes the water temp every day. Right now...82, the coldest is was this past winter..77! And we thought that was cold!!

So looking at 59 is still a absolute iceberg for me. I tried swimming with just my wetsuit top to get use to the feel of it, I was cooking myself. But as we know, certain things are out of our control, so I am not going to worry bout those things.

Got enough to worry about!!

Keep the focus and faith group!!

I am seeing the race director tomorrow morning about some things relative to the Chamber.  I believe he said the bouys will be up by Friday AM (at the latest) so everyone will have ample time to get used to the water.

Keep on trucking everyone!

Yeah, my only swim in my new DeSoto has been in my backyard pool.  Hoping to change that with an ocean swim on Memorial Day when the family and I are at the beach.

!!!!! IMPORTANT WARNING !!!!!!!!!!!!

To all the locals who train on the bike course on a regular basis and those who may travel to do so before Ironman...

Beware of dogs on the Upriver Drive portion of the course. I was riding it yesterday and got bite on the back of my leg by a German Shepard . The loose dog and his loose dog friend came running out of the yard at 4025 Upriver Dr. and began to chase me. I clipped out and as I was putting my legs down, the German Shepard took a chomp. Animal control was called and citations and charges were filed, but there were several other dogs on the property. I don't know what happened to the dog that bite me.

The house is about 3/4 up the hill on the right as you ride course direction.

Take care and beware. I should be ok with a few days of rest ot let the swelling go down, but it could have been a lot worse.

Be careful out there!

Sorry to hear it, but thanks for the warning.

As for what happened to the dog. I would assume he was assessed at least a 5 minute time penalty, which isn't much time for a German Shepard. I'd start pedaling posthaste

Best of luck with your recovery.

When dogs decide to chase, I just yell at them to stop and put the hammer down.  They have all stopped after 20/30 yards.

If you got bit, SUE!

They got me as I was going up on of the bigger hills on the course--no way I could have out biked them. Had to stop and the dog got me as I was putting my foot down.

On the uphill you say?  You'd think a German Shepard would have a little more pride.  Lies in wait until you're grinding up the grade in your 39 - 27 and strolls in for a cheap nibble.  Ever since the mailman went motorized, some dogs have become real opportunists.

Like Spence said, I'd consider suing.  Though it doesn't sound like Fang has much of a work ethic, so it's unlikely he's accumulated substantial assets.

Seriously though, next time you might consider using your water bottle as a squirt gun.  Though I'm sure in the heat of the moment reaching for a water bottle was the last thing on your mind.  But now that I think about it, going back and squirting the owner sounds like it could be fun.

Local captain in the sheriff's dept is good friend of mine.  I will mention dog to him....maybe it will help.  Sorry about the bite.  I am riding course next Sunday, so will probably carry a stick for the portion and kick dog's ass!!

Concerns:   I haven't got an OWS yet and need to unfold my wetsuit from the closet.          I'm still fussing about what my Nutrition plan will be, # of bottles of Perpetuam, Cilf Bloks,  Baker Breakfast cookies and Zipp Fizz.

I confirmed Hotel res at the CDA Casino/Hotel in Gorley.  Got my bike rack for the Ridgeline (Still need to try it out and make sure it works).  Finally got the vacation time off and so does wife.  Dog got vacation time also.  Just know he's going to be a pain......me, me,me, that's all he thinks about.  Scratch my tummy.....please.

Still haven't thought about the trip across the state...? Take Scenic route over mountains or head for the interstate.

Holy Smoley, 30 days to figure this out.  And to start some serious training.  (oops I think it's to late for that, have to go with what's been accomplished.)<img align='middle' src='https://beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/images/emoticons/smile.gif'>  But I'm excited to Git Ur Done!
