He Lauren'd his post anyway.  Who knows what it really said?  Though I doubt it was any more valuable.

Okay, Tim - something just for you in your next race:

"Proper Backstroke Technique

What is your mental picture of a backstroke swimmer? This is one result from a mental exercise to quickly describe different elements of backstroke swimming.

  • Head - In-line with spine

  • Eyes - Looking straight up in longer events and slightly back towards the feet in shorter events

  • Shoulders and chest - Rotate around central axis of spine in same plane as hips. High shoulder is on recovery arm side, low shoulder on pulling arm side

  • Arms - Arms are always 180-degrees from each other. Arm speed is controlled by kick speed. Recovery arm is straight from wrist to shoulder and points straight up

  • Forearm and hand pull - Propulsive surface, line from fingertips through wrist and elbow starts pointing towards the bottom and side of the pool, rotates more towards the side and surface of the pool, then finishes releasing the water towards the feet and under the hips; reach towards the bottom, then arm-wrestle, then throw something into your pocket.

  • Forearm and hand recovery - Straight arm from shoulder through wrist

  • Forearm and hand entry - Pinky first, directly above and just outside the shoulder with arm fully extended, with body rotation allowing entry hand to reach deep into the catch

  • Trunk - Must maintain the connection between the shoulders and the hips"

You shouldn't pick on the little kid.

... and Joe, to return the favor, something for you in your next race.

Care and feeding of your valve extenders

Valve extenders should be installed before the tube or tire is installed or glued on.

  1. Unscrew your valve as you normally would to pump up your tire, then grip it tightly and give it an extra twist open. You want to wedge the stem open so that it will not vibrate shut while riding.
  2. Procure some teflon pipe sealing tape. A roll can be bought at a hardware store of home center in the plumbing section. Put four wraps of tape clockwise around the stem, right where the extender will screw on. The tape provides an airtight seal so that a pump gauge will read.
  3. Screw the extender on and leave it on the tube or tire after you install it.
  4. Take care to install them properly, lest you split your new carbon rims down the middle.

It is not a bad idea to put an extender on your spare tube or tire, it is one less thing to mess with on the road if you get a flat.

sheesh.  know how to spell your beer.  It's Oktoberfest.  Beer spelling is very important... you wouldn't want the wrong beer, would you?

ah, I understand.  you are on the Red team, and must be a wine drinker.  How about some nice White Zin?

Don't worry... I don't drink beer, but Beer Wench (aka Dan) I will have a smirnoff ice waiting for me with Green Victory!

(the red team is getting confused with which thread is which again I see.... Because they are stupid.)

Smirnoff Ice, huh?  I suppose after that you'll want a Zima with a jolly rancher dropped in the bottom.

Hopefully the bar where we will going will be a real bar which means it will not serve fruity smirnoff ices that you so love and white zin or whatever Tim drinks. Not that you will have anyone to serve you a beer anyway after a red team victory.

Now back to the thread - do we have an updated count on who is coming for the ride?

The plan is to ride in costume - and, if possible, incorporate your bike - on the W&OD starting in Reston around mile 18.5 at 5:30pm.   There is a YMCA at this location where we can park and meet up under a nearby pavilion.  Keep in mind that parking at Carrabas is likely to get you towed!

This is a fun ride, not a training ride. Consider a bike light or a flashlight as we'll be right at the end of daylight and probably will finish at dark.

Following the ride, we'll be going to at least Carrabas (YES!, in costume) for a carbo-load dinner for anybody, but in particular keeping in mind the MCM participants.

For those who want to keep the fun going, we're tentatively looking at Jimmy's Old Time Tavern in Herndon (once again, YES!, in costume).

If you are planning to be in the area and are without bike, 3558 may be able to help hook you up with that. He’s got people who’ve got people.

3558 has also suggested that a group go in together on a room at Homestead for changing – really!  Just changing!  Our Reston hosts are pretty full at this point, so if you don't have your arrangements and you’re not in the area so that you could just come in costume already, this might be something to consider.

This is open to all BTers and their significant others/friends.

The bottom line is just a good time with good people doing something a little out of the ordinary to mark our fitness fellowship and the Halloween "holiday".

RSVPs aren't necessary - feel free to let us know you're joining - but it's been so crazy in here that whomever is there and ready to go is included.
