Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() ernestov - 2012-10-10 10:49 PM Rode at a moderate pace for one hour. Today I bought a cyclocross frame and I will build the bike in the next two weeks, during the winter this is a great way to maintain cycling fitness without putting mega miles. Plus, it is FUN!!!! I'm jealous...I was at REI the other night and they had a cyclocross bike on sale...very tempted to buy it for winter riding on the rail trails around here... |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Climbinggonzo - 2012-10-10 7:12 PM The weather has not at all been cooperating this week but I've got to get a long (100 mile) ride in somehow. Ideally that ought to be outside. Otherwise how much less benefit will I get if I just ride that darn trainer for 5-6 hours? My two cents - 100 miles on the trainer is probably more like 110 to 120 outdoors. Make sure you hydrate though! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() dangremond - 2012-10-11 8:40 AM If not more, the drainer is WAY more work than the road for various reasons, the biggest on is that there is no coasting, second, the resistance of the trainer is unlike the road, equal around the 360 degrees of the stroke.Climbinggonzo - 2012-10-10 7:12 PM The weather has not at all been cooperating this week but I've got to get a long (100 mile) ride in somehow. Did a quick search of the intertubes....Triathlete Mag once ran a column stating that 1 hour on the trainer is roughly equivalent to 1.5 hours riding outside. That would suggest 3.5 hour to 4 hour ride instead of the 5 to 6 hour ride you were contemplating. I admire you for even contemplating that long on a trainer. Hope you have two good movies or alternatively some good football to watch! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Two hours on the trainer this afternoon, plenty of good stuff on Netflix to watch. Against my better judgment played hockey for an hour last night as well. Always amazed that I could be sore from a measly hour of hockey vs. everything else we do, but I'm a little tight today. At least I succeeded in my personal challenge which was not to stay for an extra hour after the game drinking cheap beer in the locker room. That's what gets me the worst the following day. Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I agree Mitch. It has seen good results not only in training but also race results. 55min and 2100m swim yesterday. Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 2,000 swim (1,400-300-200-100). First time using the wetsuit and WOW! I expected some improvement but it was more than I thought. Kept aprox. 1:45/100 throughout the 1,400 (first time swimming that long straight), instead of my usual 2:00; and felt like I was swimming easier. It was so good and easy that I am thinking in using the wetsuit during my runs... Andy S 4/B 7/R 5 Rest 2 Total 16 18:07:58 |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Yesterday was a crazy day at work so no workouts. Today a 50 min morning run with intervals and tempo work and finally getting over my cold. Tomorrow my last long run before heading out to China on Sunday for a week long business trip. It will be interesting to see if I can manage to get my scheduled runs done between travel and meetings in Hangzhou and Shanghai Hope everyone has a great weekend! Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Traveled to and fro to Buffalo on Thursday - so a rest day. Today 48' tempo run (15 wu, 5' x 7:40, 5' @7:31, 4' @ 7:10, 6' @ 6:23, 13' CD). @ Jackie - I used to run in compression socks, but now only wear them for recovery. I find that during running the compression becomes uncomfortable. @Gabe - Good luck on the trip and stay healthy. I hate to travel because I feel everyone around me is a spreader of contagion. @Ernesto - Keep up the solid work - we are all pulling for you. What's your goal for IMFL. @Andy - Holy sh@t! How many weeks to IMAZ? Looks like that will be my IM of choice in 2014 so take notes. @Barry & Chris - What's next post marathon? @Matthew & Markz - As the boys down under are hitting their warm season, what races do you guys have planned? @Samy: Chlorine kills wetsuits, be careful. I too benefit tremendously from a wetsuit, but practice. I always cramp in a wetsuit. @Jim and Mitch - Heading to the Eagles vs. Lions games on Sunday. Love Michigan college football, but can't say the same for the pro team. Go Eagles! Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Joe, thanks for asking. The thing is, here it gets pretty hot in summer and serious races are usually scheduled during the cooler season. Local marathon here is in July, IM in May... sort of like on the other side of the planet. I'm planning on doing more shorter races like the 5k Parkrun I did today. They are on every Saturday, all year. Other than that I'm planning on more mountain rides in summer and of course another marathon next July. This is the plan so far. |
