Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() As long as you're comfortable in the aero position, I vote for hills, but let's see what the veterans say. Andy S 5/B 9/R 6 Rest 2 Total 20 25:12:14 |

What will make me a stronger rider?? Matthew, seems to me they are two different things. Why not do both of them, alternate them maybe. If you are preparing for the flat race, then probably flat training in aero is more important and should be given more time. 30min drill session in the pool today. Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Today, I lose one BPM on my MAF target (hint, hint). On the other hand, next year I will move up from the 40-44 to the 45-49 age group. Please, someone tell me that one is less competitive... No better way to celebrate than an 8 mile run at 5 am...are we sick or what? Andy S 5/B 9/R 6 Rest 2 Total 20 25:12:14 |

Please, someone tell me that one is less competitive... No better way to celebrate than an 8 mile run at 5 am...are we sick or what? Happ Birthday! I found this online for you..looks like you just need to swim and bike now! TRIATHLON BIRHDAY CHALLENGE Take your age and in any order: 1) Swim the number of yards in the first number(# multiplied by 1000 yards), 2) Run the number of miles in the second number, 3) Bike the number of miles in the combined number. So a 45-year-old athlete would: 1) Swim 4000 yards 2) Run 5 miles 3) Bike 45 miles If you choose to accept the B-Fit B-Day Challenge you must.... Bronze: Do all three (swim/bike/run) during the week of your Birthday. Silver: Do all three (swim/bike/run) in the three days before, after, or on your B-Day. Gold: Do all three (swim/bike/run) in 24-hours to celebrate your B-Day! Platinum: Do all three in miles (swim first number in miles not yards/bike/run) in 24-hours to celebrate your B-Day! Important Note: Since “0” Birthdays like 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, and so on are important milestones the "0" in your birthday represents a 10. This means that on those “0” Birthdays you get to celebrate this big milestone by running ten miles. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I need either a pep talk or a kick in the butt, your choice. I have had 0 motivation to do anything. I skipped a run, swim session and a strength session all in the last three days. I have gained 7 pounds since my HIM, and I am eating like a farm animal (I am talking about force fed veal quantities). I forced myself to run under duress at lunch and it did nothing to help me out of this funk. I have a very stressful month coming up at work, which includes 2 trials and I just recieved notice that I have oral argument at the court of appeals sandwiched between the two trials! so, lets hear it slap me in the face, kick me in the butt, wake me up whatever, I need motivation. Maybe just take a few days off? At least for me, there is a HUGE difference if I skip a workout vs. have a schedule day off. Maybe take a few days off, recharge your battery, do some other kind of physical activity just for fun (MTB, kayaking, ???) and plan to start hitting the road by next week. A few mental days off might be all you need to start missing it again. |

Jim, I've had a couple of these this year. The first was immediately after my stress fracture diagnosis. I'll call mild depression, silly, but probably true. The second was after my triathlon in September and I felt kind of aimless and had a hard time getting back into it. I think you need to take a week or two off from having a plan. Sounds like you have a lot of life going on. Good advice on doing things other than S/B/R. if you feeling like some S/B/R just do it. No plan, just do it for fun. I think you have to have some scheduled down time periodically to get focused again. -Mitch Edited by dangremond 2012-10-15 2:43 PM |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Got in the pool today for 5000 yards, 1:16:39. 1100 warm up (600 then 500), 600 drills, 300 kick w/fins, 5x500 @1:30 then 500 cool down easy. The biggest problem for me with these long pool workouts is that I've been out of the water for almost 3 hours now and I'm still super congested and my sinus' are all swollen. Hoping to get on the trainer for a bit to get some junk out of my legs from yesterday's long run. Andy S 6/B 9/R 6 Rest 2 Total 21 26:28:53 Edited by Climbinggonzo 2012-10-15 4:42 PM |

James, When stress is high and motivation is low, don't try to go and put mega hours in one session. Rather find a thirty minute gap at any given time and run, make it a run only block. Running is easy, no need for a pool or a bike, you can do it anywhere and at any time of the day. The key is FREQUENCY, if you run 30' a day, you can safely do it every day without fear of injury. If you find time in the weekend, go for a ride. Don't force the outcome, let the motivation find its way back to you. Just like fitness (you can't be at peak all the time), you can't stay mentally acute and eager all year long. After IM I get the blues for a while, and I just let it sit there... |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Happy Birthday Samy! I'm going to be losing a MAF point in a couple of weeks too. And I don't get to switch age groups. Jim, I know you are younger than me and more athletically experienced, but other than doing a bike ride (that I thought would be a recovery ride, but wasn't) two days after my HIM, I took the entire two weeks off! I relaxed and ate and drank and just mentally and physically took a break. It was definitely exactly what I needed. Now it is pleasant to be in marathon training. FWIW.
