tahrens - 2011-03-25 3:30 PM Men crack me up.   I was at the pool yesterday when a pretty woman in a bikini walked by.  It was so funny to see every male head in the place follow her.  Most of them didn't even look like they were conscious of what they were doing.  You guys truly are slaves to your hormones.

What were you doing at the pool in a bikini???

Wink

Kinda related, but kinda not.  Do any of the women in here train in a two-piece?  I have a Zoot two-piece that I wear for all my training, and I've only recently been noticing that I am the only female I've ever seen training in a two-piece.  Is that weird?

I've tried on one-piece suits before, and they just never seem to fit me.  They always seem too short in the torso.

I have a great 2 piece from lululemon that I absolutely love.  Only wear it on vacation, for snorkeling or at the beach in Hawaii...it just seems to slow my already slow self down when doing laps.  I like my Speedo endurance one piece for lap swimming.  I've tried TYR suits on and they are too short in the torso for me, as well.

My favorite brand of suit is TYR....I guess now I know why!  I can't imagine trotting into the pool in a two piece....I'd feel weird...most chicas wear one piece suits at the three pools I frequent.  When someone strolls in with a two piece (usually padded!) they are trolling...

Beautiful today in Madison....balmy 7F for my morning run with a steady 15mph wind to give me that nice chapped look.  I could b$tch, but I'm just happy to be able to run.....Gotta love the Midwest in March.

Brrr! And I thought I was cold running in 30F + wind! Good job, Suzy!

Only one piece swim suits for me, too. The one time I swam laps in a tankini was not fun. The top kept scooping and I thought I'd lose the bottoms on every flip turn. TYR is a little short, but Speedos usually work well.

All this talk about bikinis and food.

Bikinis...the main reason that I swim at lunch in the outdoor pool at masters.  For some reason there tends to be lots of female swimmer types that like to swim with us.  My wife calls me a pervert, and I keep reminding her that I am a PROVERT.  Dont underestimate.

Food...I was about 60 or so miles into my 81 mile ride this morning, and I commented to Mark that I could not wait for an egg sandwich.  With the yellow just slightly soft and slathered with a little mayo on white bread.  I had to go pick up my son from my mom's, and I called ahead and had her make one...it was awesome.  (the purpose of this part of the post was so that I could get the ""80"" mile ride in there.)

Wow, you 2 guys rode far today! Great job on the bike guys!  That is when I get the most hungry, on a long ride. I start thinking about food and eat like a horse when finished.  Again, way to get the mileage in both of you rock!

Had my longest run since Augusta HIM today, 7 miles. I ran for 1 hour and then cooled down for 5 minutes. The other first was that I soaked through my shoes! I am a heavy sweater and my socks, shoes and the lift in my left shoe were all totally soaked. Now to see how I feel tomorrow.

BTW: We have a restaurant, Spinners that serves a hamburger the size of a hubcap. If you finish it in under an hour it is free. My wife has told me she will divorce me if I order one.

Great job Doug!  Are you just trying to rub in the fact it is warm enough for your feet to sweat?  If you're at all sore, an epsom salts bath is the bomb post ice bath of course.....Laughing

When I worked in Racine, WI there was a restaurant called Chubbies--burgers the size of Fatty's head plus a little more...most god awful meat you could eat...swear it was rhino butt.

I am inspired. Watching my alma mater kick some swimming @$$ at the DIII National Championships in Knoxville. Streaming video. They are swimming the mile now -- that was my event. So cool. The swimmers are gorgeous and fast and I just want to go get in a pool and swim my little heart out. But alas, I gotta take a kid to a baseball game and a kid to a soccer game and feed the kids and exercise the dog and eat and and and....

If anyone like watching stuff like this, go to http://www.ncaa.com/liveschedule

The mile is the poor step-child of swimming. All heats except the final one are swum during the break between trials and finals when the teams head out to rest and eat. The distance swimmers stick together and take care of each other. There is no glory in being a distance swimmer, ha!!

Great week, Fatty. No bikini pics. I've had two children.

John's had 3 kids, and we've seen him topless...cmon now

Nice run today, Doug!  I think I would have preferred wet socks from sweating as opposed to completely soaked socks from my first 10 minute warm up in a complete downpour this morning.  Running 90 minutes in drenched socks is not so fun, but I have found the best socks (smartwool phd running socks), they actually feel oddly dry even when wet (no blisters)!  (unfortunately I did not wear those today)

I love a good burger after a long run.  That picture looks awesome, Julia! It was quite tough to look at when I got to work and logged on and then unpacked my tuna sandwich and apple.

We don't have any of those burger places!  We do however have Burgermeister's and they make a great Applewood bacon, Blue cheese burger that simply Rocks!!!

If you enjoy following sports streaks, the longest-lasting one in collegiate history was just broken. The men's swim team from my alma mater, Kenyon College in Gambier, OH, had won 31 consecutive NCAA DIII Championships. No other sport or college can claim such a streak. Tonight, the streak was broken by a small rival college 30 miles down the road, Denison University. Final scores: Denison 500.5, Kenyon 499.5. Yup, Denison won by 1 point.

But there is a silver lining! The coach of Denison (Gregg Parini) is a former Kenyon swimmer who swam under Jim Steen, who coached Kenyon to each of its NCAA titles. Gregg graduated a year or two before I swam there, but I did meet him many times. Awesome guy who also has 6 (!) sons. The women's streak fell to Denison a few years back, but the Kenyon Ladies do have 24 titles to their name (we won Nationals each year I was there!). They placed 4th this year. The winner of this year's women's meet? Emoroy University. Coached by? Jon Howell, another former Kenyon swimmer, who graduated a year behind me.

I know Coach Steen hates to lose... but man, what an honor to be beaten by those who helped make you what you are today. Pretty cool.

OK, thanks for letting me wax a bit. This is my March Madness.

A popular t-shirt/bumper sticker at the school (which is tiny, only about 1500 students) is "Kenyon is Not Near Uganda."
