Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: RE: May Flowers Challenge bodhi_girl - 2011-05-27 11:18 AM Emma I like Idea #2 ... and put me on the swim team - as that's where my training is concentrated! Guys I'm having a weird day ... feeling just oddly nostalgic and overwhelmed and underwhelmed and sad and beside myself with happiness all at the same time! It was 1 year ago today that the movers came and took away all my stuff, and I spent my last night in my house in Victoria BC ... one year ago tomorrow that I packed up my little Dodge with my precious things (most notably my dog Albert & cat Maggie, and my 102 yr old clock that was given to my great-grandparents on their wedding day in 1909 that still works like it's a day old) and drove as far as Kelowna BC (an 11-hr drive, due to getting lost). Night spent in a hotel, i remember the dog got sick, it was pouring rain, I lost my Oakleys, and room service screwed up my order ... Then a week ago on May 28 was my epic drive from Kelowna to Calgary (again - many hours longer than it should have been due to getting lost, again, I really should have fore-thought a map), arriving in Calgary, and taking possession of my beautiful home and life. It's been a stellar year. Marred terribly by the loss of Albert (17-yrs old he was, and the best thing that ever happened to me - I miss him every day) and the catastrophe with Balin (the other dog that came to me so briefly here) but otherwise the best year of my life! Coming home was the best thing I ever did. I literally thank my lucky stars every day for the life that I have. And that I still have Maggie. Yup ... I'm teary this day. I should point out that the 3 years I lived in Victoria were the worst years of my life, and I was miserable beyond apprehension the entire time I 'lived' there ... it was truly terrible. Yanti will remember me during this time ... I was a different person. Yes, yes you were. Your core, as always, was so hauntingly lovely and incredibly generous. But I remember how unhappy you were, and how happy I was that you were getting out of there, and that you came back to BT again having bloomed. |

Veteran 392 Calgary | Subject: RE: May Flowers Challenge Yanti I heart you. Nice beach, by the way. Things are moving along swimmingly (haha get it!?!) - training has picked up now that the long-distance pressure is off, the sun came out after 10 days of heavy rain (although we're flooding now, many mandatory evacs all around me but thankfully my community is still fairly dry) so I can once again go train outside, and I got the call to go interview for that job I've been lusting after! I'm SO excited! Interview's Thursday. I'm going to rock it. Been reading all your posts, but as usual between 12-hr nightshifts not much time to respond. I look forward to the next month's challenge - I love swimming and spend a lot of time in the pool ... although honestly my only concern/drawback to this potential new position is that it will impact my time in the pool - as my hours will change slightly and work location will change drastically (add another 45-min on to my commute, sigh). Happy long weekend to the Murricans out there! |

Veteran 392 Calgary | Subject: RE: May Flowers Challenge Oh - and I found out last night - the tri I did a few weeks ago that was so so so awfully windy ... at the time they were saying the wind gusts were appx 50km/hour ... email came out from the race director yesterday that Environment Canada had them clocked at 70km/hr consistently all morning! No wonder it was so friggin' hard! |

And obviously, Yanti was a participant --- because one of the teams was called "We  T.I.T.S." LOL The swimming team was "Team Swimming Rocks." I was on that one. And the run team was "LEMmings" --- which stood for something, but I sure don't remember what..... TriAya - 2011-05-26 4:56 PM Actually it was done before.... But it was a whole lot of fun, and it's definitely worth doing again. (I can't remember the team names, but one was something like "Swims like a rock." )owl_girl - 2011-05-27 5:13 AM I like your second idea, Emma. x2 Logistically, battle of the sports is much easier AND it's never been done!!! Challenge Queen Emma!!! So much melonage ... so little time ... no wonder I can't remember anything but what wonderful memories, Deevil. Of course I'm in, definitely not for running. Probably swimming. Speaking of which ... I got THREE OWS in today on my beautiful remote tropical island I ran away to ... plenty of cycling ... but I did not get any piglets in, which is probably a very good thing. Nice beach and great workout! I plan to go to the beach tomorrow... but the beach water in Canada is cold, especially in May. |

Master 2042 Albany, NY | Subject: RE: May Flowers Challenge I got to ride outside! I got to ride outside!! I felt SO sluggish at first... Once my legs got warmed up it felt great. I did just a short out and back route to see how the wrist handled it... My legs did great, the wrist was SORE by the end. But in a good way, I think. |

Master 2042 Albany, NY | Subject: RE: May Flowers Challenge QueenZipp - 2011-05-26 5:49 PM Emma, I vote for option 2 because then people who are injured can be on the team that works to their advantage and it's less of a logistical issue to set up. Option 1 we would have to look at the distances most people are signed up for and split the groups accordingly. A lot of us don't have too many planned events right now for a variety of reasons so that makes setting a goal distance harder from the get go. I agree... and I have to say, that sounds like fun! Not sure which team to be on though... I need to work on all 3. Maybe I'll offerr myself up to the team that needs more people. |

Master 2042 Albany, NY | Subject: RE: May Flowers Challenge The race I am doing next month, I was supposed to be doing with a good friend of mine. But after I signed up, she decided not to do it. For good reasons, but I was bummed. And then I had the wrist surgery and training fell off. And lately, I have been really dreading the race. But we saw her at her parents Memorial Day party yesterday and we were talking about the race. She just called me a little bit ago to verify that I was doing the sprint, because there are still spots and now she's going to do it! I am SO excited!!! It's always nice (at least I think so) to have a friend out on the course with you, to help you get psyched in the morning, and in our cases help each other squeeze into our wetsuits... |
