Expert 1231 B'ham | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL No racing here, other than my heart when I run and my mind when I should be working (ok, maybe the mind is wandering more than racing, nothing like giving yourself too much credit). My new plan called for a shorter run this morning, so I thought I'd do the first route I ever put in my route manager. A 3.8 mile loop that I ran at a 9:41 pace on 3/12/08. Today, almost exactly 3 months later I did the route in 30:41, or an 8:06 pace. I know I couldn't keep that pace much further, but I doubt I could even run any further in March. It's nice to see the measurable improvement. |

Pro 4100 Wherever the trail takes me, WA. | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL Pasman - 2008-06-12 8:01 PM well just signed up for my first race, it is a sprint this Sunday and I am nervious. I know I can do it, it is just the felling of the unknown and doing something completely out of the norm and foreign to me. I have never done a full swim-bike-run brick before so this will be an interesting day. it is just a sprint and I am treating it as a practice race for the Oly I am doing in Aug and a way to make all the mistakes now when it doesn't really matter, or aleast that is what I am telling myself. One more piece of news from me, finally after 6 months of training and over 15 years of waiting I have dropped under 200lbs. I had a smile all day and nothing could take it away... good luck to all racining this weekend! get 'er done!
VERY VERY COOL! ALL THE WAY AROUND!! You must be feeling good about where you are at in your life! Triathlons have a way of doing that! Enjoy the race, and take it as another day at the office.... You are using this weekend to LEARN, and figure out what you need to do for your Oly race in August! GOOD LUCK! |

So since I started with BT or started training anyway in like the beginning of November I have lost 30 pounds and am at 150 lbs now. Just did a 2 mile walk in my 5 fingered shoes and got blisters on both feet drat. Gona kill my long run tomorrow. Will probly swtich out bike for run and mush it into next week, sigh. For those who dont know, puncturing and draining blisters makes em heal faster than leaving them as is. I am getting to be an expert on this 8). |

Master 1952 Guelph, Ontario | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL I have lost 12 lbs. For the last year or so I though my wife was shrinking my clothes in the laundry. Now she's streching every thing. (actually it is great to be back in shape again and I have a great wife who supports my athlectic endeavors or maybe endures them is a better term). I seem to have spent a lot of time with physiotherapists over the last 10 years or so bewtween karate, hockey and other assorted sports. Remember that the first Friday the 13th of the year is "Blame somebody else" day. Have a great weekend everyone. |

Master 2436 Apex, north carolina | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL okay, if it's blame someone else day, I'm going to extend that into the weekend. I HATE MY NEIGHBORHOOD POOL!!!!! Everytime I have tried to swim laps in the lap lane I am constantly asking people to get out of it!!! Kids playing in it, women "sunbathing" on rafts in it! Honestly, and the lifeguards do nothing!!!! When I was a kid growing up you were NEVER allowed in the lap lane, period. That was for adults swimming laps only (duh!!!!) I guess not so here. So this morning I went to the adult lap swim from 6-8 am and had to quit at 7:20 because I was descended upon by the local swim team!!! Full body contact with 8 year olds setting up the swim lane dividers. The kids were polite enough, but not one parent every said "hey, watch out for that lady swimming!!!!" I pay neighborhood association dues to use that damn pool and exercising is the last thing I am able to do in it. And I was having a really good swim. 1800yds and still going strong. Sorry, but for me to choose to get up early on my weekends to exercise and then have that happen, really irritates me. I guess I need to go have breakfast and cool off. Sorry to vent so early in the morning! new signature for today: RUDE PEOPLE SUCK!!! |

There was a long thread here or on ST about how irritated people got at their local pools so I guess this is pretty common. The building where I work has a gym with an indoor lap pool 6 lanes 25yrd length, no one else in the pool other than other people doing laps, I guess I have been spoiled. |

Sorry to vent so early in the morning! new signature for today: RUDE PEOPLE SUCK!!! I'd be pissed too. Have you talked to the lifeguards or whomever is in charge of the pool? I had a similar issue w/ a couple gals trying to do water aerobics during lap time. They'd get in the way, crowding into an already full pool and reaked of perfume - obviously not showering first. I think someone said something to the front desk because they haven't been back in a couple months and it's been much better. On a happier note, I did my first brick today and it went surprisingly well. I followed a 22 mile bike ride w/ a 2.4 mile run. I've always thought people leaving T2 had a bit of a weird gait, well I found out why today. I felt exactly like that for the first quarter mile or so. My heart rate was a little higher than normal during the run, which I attributed to riding beforehand. Turns out I was running at a sub 8-minute mile pace (fast for this guy!). Have a happy father's day tomorrow, either with your dad or kids or both, whatever applies to your situation. I'm stoked for my first father's day with a little one. |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL Yay 33.5 mile bike (into 20 mph wind was unkind) and 1900 yard swim. Puts me at like 700 min for the week. Five fingered shoes are like flats, you can look them up on the web. They have no padding, none. They have toes, like your feet and they have a tread so your feet dont get cut. One runs in them to work on form. Ideally I would be doing 10 % of my miles in them to help my form. With no padding you do not do heal strikes... cuz it hurts. So you move up to the balls of your feet more and then you heal allowing for the arch of your foot to absorb some of the impact to reduce heal shock and knee shock etc. They actually cost money. They are for us folks that want to improve form, but dont want to build up the callus necessary to run in our bare feet entirely. Looks like I am not having enough callus for even these. I guess I can't log the 4 hours of housecleaning for my parents dropping by tonight huh. |

Master 1952 Guelph, Ontario | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL Hey Tracey/ I've run into the a similar issue with our pool. They have allocated on ly two lanes for the fast swimmers. That actually incldues me. I got there one day and I swear their was at least 10 people to a lane and hardly anyone in the other two slow lanes but the LG wouldn't let anyone move over. We kinda of decided that if anyone was going to use a float and just work kicks they would move ovwer into the slow lane. We were still to fast. I gave up after about 30 minutes and went and sat in the hot tub. We need more swim lanes... The only time I can get a decent swim in is between 9 and 10 PM Monday through Thursday. It takes a fair amount of energy to haul my @$$ of the couch at 8:30 to go swim. I think we should deisgnate the 2nd Friday the 13th to Offical Rant day. |

Master 1952 Guelph, Ontario | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL Had a pretty good father's day. I was being lazy and didn't get out of bed until after 7:00 AM. As my next triathlon ( this weekend) is in my home town I jumped in the truck and headed out to look at the bike course. There are a couple of decent hills which will give me a challenge. I think will be tougher than the last one. After that I went home did a 7.6k run. Then I took my wife out to buy flowers for the backyard. I am a people watcher and I like watching the guys trailing along behind their spouses or girlfriends, pushing the carts full of plants. Some of the bored expresisons are great. You can tell they are just off in their own little world daydreaming about doing something they really want to do |

I cut 1:20 off my best pool time when I put the wetsuit on and hit the OWS and that was a short 300 m swim. |

According to their sizing chart, it should fit like a glove - so here's hoping it works out. I was a little leary about buying one online, but it was such a good deal. I was planning on paying a little extra to get the 2-3 day shipping, but my wife had already paid for it when I got home yesterday. Cool that she's on top of it like that, but now it's going to be 7-10 days.
