I've concentrated on eating lots of carrot cake this week,, hmmmmmh,,, this is great training,, I need to get moving since I think I"ve gained 5lbs just eating cake... I'm just having some motivational issue's,  I"m sure once I get used to doing my long rides again on saturdays I'll be fine though

Training was right on target...maybe a bit ahead of schedule in all areas except running...then my sinus infection hit and I went down for the count all week......so I'm recovering and going to start back on Monday like this past week never existed....I know that in the long run I'll be fine but it's just frustrating as hell to get feeling "right" and then get sick and it throws you off plan.....

Hey, so are you guys doing shirts again this year for Louisville? Even though I am only a jockstrapper, would I be able to get one? If not, no worries, just thought I would ask.  I didn't know if only the actual IM'ers got them!

Happy training!!

Oh, and Mike...I laughed at your picture...hilarious!!

Of course! How will we know who you are if you don't have a tee shirt? I got one last year when I volunteered and alot of BTers saw me race morning before the swim and said hello. I still wear the shirt proudly.

BTW, I've always like your pic with the Sears in the background. Are you running by the Shedd Aquarium and the Adler Planetarium?

Hey David...thanks for the compliment...ya, isn't that sweet?  Usually the photogs are in the silliest places for our race pics, but this year at Accenture, this was right on the walkway right in front Adler (I think that's where it was), so it was awesome background scenary!!

I start mine on March 16. Been doing quite a bit of pre-training training already though. Still, it will be exciting to actually be on the clock.

I start Monday and I can't wait. I have been taking the last few days off to heal some nagging injuries so that I can start fresh. Which plan are you doing?

I start mine on Monday as well, the last couple of months of training have been good. I hired a swim coach to give me a plan for the water. So far that has worked out great.

Started 3 weeks ago, so far so good. A question for past IMKY players, I just upgraded to Sram Red components and was curious as to what cassette I should have for the race. 11-23/25/26 or 11-28. I live in Va Beach and have no hills to train on, so I will be weak in that dept.

I'm using Gale Bernheardt's 26 week plan to an Ironman out of her training book "Fitness plans for multisport athletes."

Heal up, I hope your arm is not still in that sling per your avaitar. <<<<<

I have SRAM Red and will be using a 11-26 cassette.  I have a 53/39 front.  If you have a compact front you can probably run an 11-23 or 11-25 cassette.

I live in Kansas City and we have terrain similiar to KY.

I have a Shimano Dura-Ace 53/39T and 12-25T cassette. I don't see a need for the 11 or the 26.

Contrary to what others have said, I liked having the "bailout" gear available for the second lap of hills out on the loop at IMKY in 07.....I consider myself an MOP biker and an average or so hill climber....(rode 5:54 in 2007).  For me (and this is where it is a judgment call for you) I found that being able to spin at higher rpms and not grind the hills kept my legs from burning as much "power" reserves and I felt that paid dividends later in my run (did 4:15)...I ran a 12/27 in 2007 and may again or perhaps a 12/26.....I'll see how training goes.....I would warn you to not underestimate how much harder the hills will seem the second time around and how much that can drain your reserves that you'll want later especially if it is very hot.....

Its better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

My coach is a strong biker and he was glad to have a 12-27 at IMKY.  This is my second time to race IMKY and I'll use a 12-27 again.

I have a buddy that wants to do IMKY but does not want to pay for the community slot. His wife lost her job and money is a little tight. Does anyone know if they are accepting the regular entry fee? He would love to do it and we are trying to find a way he can get in. Any ideas would be good. Thanks.

I doubt he will be able to get in general entry since it sold out in December of last year.

What about a non WTC Ironman?  Redman or something similar?  Cost is a lot less than a branded Ironman.

That is ok. . . I probably won't need them.  But that is what I run on road bike and I ride that a lot and wanted to have the same gearing on my Tri bike.  I ran a 50/34 at CDA on the front and a 12-25 on the back and never used the 25.  I did use the 12 though.  I have all the gears I need on the 11-26. . .

Does anyone know what Category S is. When you go to register for the race you can either do the community slot or Cat S. I can find nothing on what that is.

I've seen a couple of other people comment on this before but what is up with the "Official Website?"  It's the biggest POS... I know that the website is a minor part of everything but it would be nice to have at least some current information on it.  It is by far the weakest of all the IM websites that I've seen out there.  Anyone agree?

Was it like this last year as well... maybe it's just a little "too early" in the year for them to begin posting to it and updating things?

Agree completely. It just seems like there should be more to it. Why can't it even have a full page, maybe I am getting technical but crap, just a nicer looking, easier to get around site would make me feel like they are putting forth the best experience for my $500+ dollars. (rant over)

The site never got any better last year and I doubt much will change in 09.  Why are you focusing on the site anyway, you have an IM to train for!!

This is totally true, and I've been doing that!  It's just that it would be nice to see a decent webpage...maybe read a couple stories about fellow age-groupers who have signed up for 2009, some inspirational this or that, tips/tricks/and suggestions, a IMKY store, you know...something pretty standard.

I don't know, maybe it's just me.  It just seems like they could do a lot more.  BUT, in the end you're right, it's all about the training!

I know it's way early to start freaking out but this is my first IM in only my 2nd season of triathlon.  I've been training since Oct. on a plan from a local coach who has a lot of IM distance experience...but still, it's looming.  I can't wait though... No matter what this will be a summer of first's for me.  A brief rundown of the next several months: my first TT, marathon, 1/2 IM, IM!  Give me some love... some support... word of encouragement... something!  Thank the lord for BT!

I feel the need to kick the dead horse one more time.  INMHO - the IMKY site is total crap.  At least keep it relevant to this years race and remove links to last years schedule, etc.  It doesnt do much to your confidence when you click on a link for a race info and you get last years schedule.  OK - now time to go run.

Happy training all.
