photonic - 2009-05-31 11:41 PM I will be volunteering in bike sag this year. I'm local to the area and would be more then happy to help out any BTers that need some local help. I would love to meet up with any BTers racing (or volunteering). If we can get a consensus on time I would be happy to make reservations.

That's cool, Always good to have a local contact!

Amen.

Although, the taper blues, where you actually feel worse than when you were working hard, will soon set in.  Followed by all the unnecessary anxiety about whether or not you've done enough to be ready.

Such is life.

Get lots of rest!

I still have another week and a half until my taper starts, but looking at that green square on my log this morning gave me a few butterflies.  I'll be getting to CdA on Tuesday, so it's basically only two weeks away!

Hope everyone is doing well!

Hey CdA'ers! So, I'm not doing the race, but I am heading up there to cheer y'all on as you tackle 140.6!! My best friend and her husband, and something like 65 of their Tri Teammates from Austin T3 will be out there on the course with you. I told her I would come cheer her on for her first IM, and she's going to try to do the same for mine come IMFL this November. Works out that some of my great BT friends are doing it too, and I will be cheering for everyone of you!! So, I'll be checking in to this thread a bit to see everyone's #'s and tri-outfit descriptions so I can cheer for you as specifically as is possible on race day.

I have been able to do a lot of my base training with my Austin friends that are doing CdA and I know how hard they have worked and how deserving of the taper they are--so "happy" taper wishes to you all and may you not go too ballistic on anyone! I'm excited for y'all to "kick off" the North American IM season!! Best of wishes!

Do they provide any sort of athlete tracking for spectators?  I can't find details on the site.

I'm I reading the athlete guide correctly?  Do the special needs bags need to be dropped off on Saturday?

In years past the SN bags have been dropped off on race morning.  Did this really change?

Looks like the schedule doesn't even mention special needs bag dropoff at all, for either Sat or Sun.  On another note, with regards to projected Kona slot allocation (final allocation determined on race day) they say to "please review the table below" but don't include the table....although you can ballpark guess based on past years.  Not a big deal.

I noticed that too, although it doesn't affect me much (since you're in my AG).

People have asked me if I'm going to qualify for Kona.  Yea...right...even if I have a spectacular race day (i.e. 11:58) I'll be 1:30 too slow for one of those spots.

But I gave money to the RD and everything 'cause I wanted another mega-bucks vacation in a tropical locale!

Ha!  Qualify?  My youngest daughter asked me in all seriousness, "Mama, do you think you'll win Ironman?"  I LOVE the innocence of youth and the belief that their parents can do anything... "But if you DO win..."

Tell her that you can not win because they give the pros a 35 minute head start.  I can't wait until race morning to see her yelling "Cheaters!  They're starting early!  Cheaters!"  Youthful innocence is great.

Tell her that "winning" ironman is crossing the finish line before 17 hours.

With all this talk of Kona, I want to go on vacation when all of this is over.  That's the only way I will get there!

Last year for IMKY Rogillio put together a spreadsheet with everybody from BT's information on it for the race.  This helped a lot when trying to coordinate meeting up swimming, etc...   I'll attach a sample of it and if you would like me to include your information shoot me a PM with your info and email address and I'll send you a copy.  I won't post it on BT and I promise I won't resell your information .    Unless I get a really good offer

Matt

Hi folks, discovered this thread far too late having been desparately trying to contact other Brits doing or done this event on UK sites.

This will be my second IM having done Lanzarote last year (12:13). I was chatting to two English guys while recovering around the hotel pool, who had done CDA in 07 and really rated it. A year later here I am counting down the days until I fly across the pond.

This will be my first visit to the States and Canada and so excited.
The area looks amazing. All my cycle training has been done in the rolling hills of Kent and sussex and hope that it will put me in good stead for the rollers of CDA.

It is going to be abit of a whistle stop tour for me. I fly into Vancouver on Tuesday of race week arriving in Idaho on Thursday. For budget reasons, staying in Post Falls for 2 nights before moving to CDA on Sat for 3 nights.

Over the next few days i will trawl my way through the 20 pages of the thread and get some idea about my fellow competitors.
