I got sleeted on during my run today.  It only actually "hurt" for about 5 minutes of the run until I changed direction, so it was about 55 minute of relatively okayish running weather.   Yay?

I'm a relative newbie to MN (from TX) and am suffering my 5th winter. But I had to change my thoughts on this place since we do get long winters here! I went to Start Line and bought some slip on "cleats" for running in the snow and ice. I did a 5 mile and a 7 mile in them and loved it! The extra weight kicks your arse a little, but you gotta love the burn!

ALRIGHT!! Another winter runner!! I love running this time of year! See you around at some multisport events this next year??....

Foggy

Another TX transplant here as well (6 yrs now).  This is my first year braving the winter running as well, although I still do the faster stuff on the TM.

Came from College Station!

Cheers.

We've actually crossed each other's path a couple of months ago at the indoor tri. You pretty much made the rest of us look like the rookies we are! Laughing

I have three or four lined up for the year starting with the GW Du, so I'm sure I'll see you out there!

AB

Ha! I love those indoor tris for a little burst of "off season" speed! See you at GW! Make sure to say hi! I'll probably be there as a relay with my bro-in-law.

What?  No whining yet?  Are you all frozen solid?  According to Weatherunderground, it's currently -24 at my house.  It's -20 here, which was cold enough to get a 2 hour delay at school.  Of course, I was already at the gym, done with my workout, out of the shower and half dressed when the call was made.  Anyway, here I am at my desk with 2 hours to get some work done.  That's a win.

Somehow the straight cold doesn't bother me as much as when it's snowing and icky.  At least it's sunnyish?

Enjoy your two hours of peace!

I bet!  I was thinking about the poor dude working the tow truck on 94 this morning, laying on the cold road hooking up cars.  BRRR

Just got back from a 7 mile run.  It's a little brisk out there, but the looks on people's faces as I ran by was priceless.  Almost made me forget how cold it was out.

I got out for my final long run before next weekend's half. I ran with my camera for 14 miles. Here's a good one from around mile 6.....

OK Steve~ 2 questions:

1) Are the draw strings on your hoodie frozen "up" or were you still running?
2) Did you double up the head gear?

Foggy

1. Holy crap. I didn't even notice that! It WAS breezy, but I don't think it was THAT breezy when I made the photo. So yes, I think they were frozen that way. Crazy.

2. Yeah, I doubled up nearly everything. Ski mask with hat with ear band on top. And 4-5 layers over my boy parts too.....

Oh man, the forecast is calling for highs in the 30s this week.  Everything's going to be all melty and mushy - yuck!

It's funny but I was mostly joking when I made that complaint earlier.  However, it was totally true!  I ran on Mississippi River Blvd and the formerly packed snow was a real chore to run through - really sticky and slidey.  Every bit of near bare pavement was a joy.  Maybe some real melting will continue to take place.  I actually wished for the hard packed stuff!

This morning I noticed that the snow was starting to degrade.  Just came back from lunch and left my coat in the car.  It's 32* down here in the southland.

Ugh...last week I ran outside without a winter jacket jumping over puddles. This week, I'll be back to slogging through snow that is like quick sand trying not to fall on the ice Oh spring where art thou.
