(read all about him in the May edition of Runners World Magazine) you can tell he love all things running. on a sadder note.... my marathon relay team will be running in the honor of a beautiful young woman. E., a 22 yr old college student, was on trng run on Tues and was struck and killed. She was away at college at the time, and would have been coming home today to run in her very first marathon on Sunday, here in PGH. She would have been graduating on the 10th. sad. sad. sad. as athletes we can all connect to this sort of tragedy. so ill be running my portion of my relay for E. and my friend DAN. DAN had the lower half of his right leg amputated a month ago. before his accident, he wanted to get back into running. in spite of this set-back, hes determined to start running again. (he was an track athlete in highschool&college) so i promised to compete in my first tri and run the marathon relay leg for him, until he's able to compete/run in his own race. these dedicated runs have so much meaning, dont they? this weekend is gonna be so special/meaningful. HAPPY TRNG/RACING EVERYONE! stacieb Stacie... that is soo sad!!! It is great that you are running for two great people! |

Sure, why not...I don't know everyone here... My name is Michelle and as I've babbled about a few posts ago, I am a SAHM whose first tri is coming up on the 17th. Ok, it might be a Du since the wonderful planners scheduled it right in time for the damn jelly fish invasion! Either way, my sister and BIL will be here for it and I am so super excited (no matter what kind of race it is.) I'm supposed to be swimming today but we are going to have to pray that my hubby gets home in time for me to make it to the pool!! *praying* The dam jellyfish! That happen to me at my first Na Wahine, The race directors should know by now that the jelly fish show up like a week after the full moon. I did that race last year, it is very large but a lot of fun! You should have a blast regardless. I'm thinking the same thing!! Don't they look at the calendar like the rest of us?! Anyway, I figure if nothing else it'll be a prep for the North Shore Tri in June since I've never done a bike race either. Plus, my sister is really excited that she'll get to see me do a race! |

I sorta had to bail on last months Buuuuuuuut, I'm back in the game. That is cool that we are racing on the same day! Like I told you before, I know you'll do awesome on your OWS!!!! If mine turns into a Du I won't be doing the swim portion but no matter what I'll be using my "calm down ~ you can do this" mantra as I tend to get overly excited/anxious during any race anyway! |

The team thread is on page 20 and I will not even try to catch up.... Notes??? My name is Kathrin. My goal for this challenge is 8 hours of swimming in order to keep me in the pool after having tri swim classes for the past couple of months. My first tri is coming up on the 30th and I am super excited. I have been training for this for a while now. Made the decision for doing this triathlon last year, halfway in a journey to loose a little over 60lbs. The weight is gone and having the tri on schedule was a great motiviation not to start slacking. I am looking forward to this challenge and will tri my best to keep up with the thread!!! Oh... And tomorrow I will do a Mud Run.... 4 miles and around 30 obstacles... Wish me luck! HEY KAT!!! I didn't know about your weight loss journey....congrats girly!! Good luck tomorrow and HAVE FUN!! |

I just returned to tri's this last summer after a bit of a break while my son was younger. My husband works odd hours and getting out to train was just too much of a juggle. I did 1 mini tri and a duathlon over the summer and had a blast. Looking to a HIM next season. We're heading into winter here so I needed some incentive to get in the pool so this challenge is perfect...no assatar from me..not a good idea at all. Edited by bondgirl 2009-05-01 7:40 PM |

Expert 831 Eltham North, Victoria | Subject: RE: GIRLS TEAM THREAD May Swim Challenge tritwinmom - 2009-05-02 6:03 AM Hello! Since we are introducing ourselves. I am Nancy, I am of course a mom of twins, I did my first tri in 1997, I then turned 30 and my biological clock kicked in and wanted children, that became my focus, I got pregnant when I was 32 using insemination. Unfortunately was still trying to train and may have been overexerting for my reproductive fragility and miscarried. Well as any infertility story goes and goes I finally took the plunge and did IVF and bam I was blessed with twin boys at the age of 36. Post pregnancy: I was 200+ when I delivered the boys, of course you loose a lot post delivery but still had that lingering 25-30 lbs to loose. I started swimming, walking the jogger and then adding a jog from one telephone pole to the next... then riding my mtn bike. Did my second all women tri in 2006 and haven't stopped. Someday when the boys are older I will shoot for a longer distance but I work part time nights as an ICU nurse and sprint distance is doable without adding more stress. I have a swimming background, so yes the swim comes easy to me, but I could be more proficient in the water, I always think distance per stroke! Next time they have a stroke clinic I am there! I did the IVF journey also. I am now blessed with a wonderful, delightful son-he's 8. |

Since we are introducing ourselves, my name is Barb. I work as a case worker for adults with developmental disabilities. I'm currently training for Eagleman 70.3 on June 14th. After that I have two sprint tris while upping run mileage for the Philly marathon in November, which will be my first marathon. |

Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: GIRLS TEAM THREAD May Swim Challenge Geez I just found this thread and day one of challenge and already page 20...chatty group aren't we? I'm Kathy, Mom to 5 great kids...twin sons 20 next week, three daughters 14, 13, and 10..we did the infertility thing too and were blessed with twins but second go round left that rollercoaster and ended up adopting our youngest three. I'm on my 6th year of doing tris. Did my first to show myself that yes I was no longer fat and couch potato and didn't really enjoy that first one but was more scared. Since then I've done lots of tris and did my first Ironman last year in the rain at Lake Placid. I had lost 97 pounds at the time of my IM and won the Biggest Loser at the IM athletes dinner. Swimming is a big mental challenge for me and I have struggled with it. I am working with a new swim coach and tri coach starting last November and am finally making progress. I am enjoying swimming more and improving. Last year when I was struggling with swimming I started this silly thing that I call myself the Pike...type of fish from MN where I grew up. Now I often refer to my swims with fish references and I'm working to be truly Iron Pike like. I get my training plans weekly so don't really know my swims for month so I opted for 14 sessions. I do best if I swim 4x a week but IM build for IM Canada is starting so I have more longer bikes and runs. This will be a lot of fun...may you all be fish like and maybe some of you will even be pike like this month |
