Master 1887 Brentwood, CA | Subject: RE: Team Fall-dippides - November Challenge BigEasy6 - 2009-11-18 6:56 AM Short 4 mile run this morning...probably another 4 mile run this PM with my wife. Then a strength session - core and legs. Proud of my run this morning. I pushed the pace harder than I have in awhile just to see. Mile 1 - 9:10 Mile 2 - 8:23 Mile 3 - 8:05 Mile 4 - 8:23 Not the sub-7 from some of you...maybe I'll get there someday. Solid work! I noticed your faster times before I even read the post. |

Expert 1074 Madison, MS | Subject: RE: Team Fall-dippides - November Challenge Ooh. It's Wednesday already. Last night's run was pretty good. The whole time I was driving over to the LRS, I was wishing I was going home instead. It was dark and chilly. I got there a bit early, so I could do at least a 15-minute warmup jog before the group workout started. Then, promptly at 6pm, we headed off on our 45-minute run with a 25-minute tempo in the middle. Looked pretty funny as about 10 people headed down the path with reflectors and head lamps. Our training team's coach, who just did IMFL, ran with me the entire time. As I settled into a hard, maybe too fast, tempo pace, he just trotted along, chatting away. I ended up covering over 6 miles in just under an hour. Pretty happy about that. Then, got home, and my calf cramped big time. Owee! I should have put my compression sleeves on. They might have helped. Dunno. I am suspecting wearing the Newtons the day before may have had a role in that. Anyway, I am glad that I don't run the next 2 days. I am feeling a bit beat up with the PF and calf cramp and, now, sore abs from an ab workout. It's so much fun getting old(er). Swim tonight with flip turn practice (I can do them but I totally suck). Off tomorrow (yoga in the morning maybe). Short run on Friday and then long run on Saturday (hoping for around 19). |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Team Fall-dippides - November Challenge Today is the day I start working on bilateral breathing on my swim, wish me luck, I am going to be drinking half the spa. I hate strength training. Well I hate that it overworks muscles I need for my real workouts and then I get unusual overuse issues that fry my other training. I guess that is why you do them, so you get those muscles in better shape, but I find it really hard to do both and not fall apart in the middle. I get to do some of those tonight as well. |

Expert 1007 Hattiesburg, Mississippi | Subject: RE: Team Fall-dippides - November Challenge Got 10.5 miles in. Wasn't my favorite run, just wasn't into it. Pushed the pace just a bit on a few miles here and there, was good practice even if I wasn't having as much fun as usual. The Fuel Belt was fine, as always, but since I have lost weight I am going to need to get a smaller size. Oy! I guess I'll post it on the BT Classifieds. |

Good job getting through the run and great job on testing ahead of time how you will feel with the Fuel Belt on. You can always blame the Fuel Belt for not having as much fun! |

Master 2055 Santa Clarita | Subject: RE: Team Fall-dippides - November Challenge Got to the pool yesterday for a mile swim broken up into intervals . My triceps were a little sore from all the bar dips i did at the gym monday night . But i got through the session. Also the pool clock was not working so my rest intervals were guestimates . For fun at the end i ran and dolphin dived 25 m in the shallow lanes (4ft deep) and returned with 25 m freestyle *3 as in going through the surf zone to open water .

Master 1887 Brentwood, CA | Subject: RE: Team Fall-dippides - November Challenge Hmmm... Not to sure about my logic here I woke up this morning with my hip being a little sore, so I decided to take my long run for the week to the trails. Well, good news is my hip doesn't feel any worse for wear, but ended up exerting on the hills a little more than I wanted too. Legs are tired, but glad to see that my average hr stayed down. At least my week is pretty much over in regards to training. I'm going to do a light swim tonight, easy bike trainer spin tomorrow, rest of Friday (long drive with three kids), and race on Saturday. Today's run (E/L pace = 8:33/mile): Mile 1: 8:15;HR 134; 76ft Mile 2: 8:20;HR 152; 310ft Mile 3: 8:22;HR 156; 273ft Mile 4: 8:19;HR 142; 134ft Mile 5: 8:26;HR 146; 111ft Mile 6: 8:28;HR 147; 168ft Mile 7: 8:24;HR 141; 64ft Mile 8: 8:18;HR 145; 111ft Mile 9: 8:33;HR 149; 149ft Mile 10: 8:17;HR 154; 64ft Total elevation gain 1,460 feet. |

Regular 60 | Subject: RE: Team Fall-dippides - November Challenge Hey gang, Got in some training last night. Swim, Water Running, and Lifting (Upper half). A little sore this afternoon thanks to the lifting, but also feeling a little sleepy here post lunch. I plan to do another set tonight, swim water running and lifting (lower half). I've hit my goals for running and lifting, but I'm back a few on swimming. I plan to just keep truckin' and meet the goal there next week and keep trucking over the goals on running and lifting. Cheerio! Riley P.S. Not seeing a lot of results from doing what I do, but my muscles are starting to feel taut under my skin. Weird, but cool! |

QUOTE] I'm far from an efficient swimmer, but I'll offer a drill that worked for me when I was learning to breath bilaterally. Doing one arm strokes really helped me along. The drill really makes you focus on hip rotation and keeping your chin into you chest-shoulder. If you try to cheat and lift your head to breath, you will sink and get a mouth full of water. It will feel akward, but try to relax and balance on your side with each stroke. I'll do 25 yards one arm, then alternate to the other arm for the returning 25 yards breathing on every third stroke. While I breath bilaterally, I still prefer to site breath only off of my strong side. Edited by brick94513 2009-11-18 8:58 PM |

Expert 1157 Tremonton, Utah | Subject: RE: Team Fall-dippides - November Challenge Swim Goal Completed! Now 3 miles on Bike for Bike Goal (shouldn't be too hard) and 30 more miles somehow to make the running goal. I should do it, but gonna be close on the run with all the travel I've got to do in the next 10 days! 1550 yard swim this morning (1500 non-stop). Was kind of relaxing just to swim... |

A little bit under plan for the day, but nothing I'm overly concerned about. Been a very busy day with having to resolve some work issues this morning before catching the airplane to the pre-frozen tundra! Now it's catch up on e-mail and try to get some rest so I can keep up with Sparco in the morning! Nice run yesterday--- have fun today!
Thanks -- we did -- Was great fun -- even if it was hilly..... But my old buddies like to say "Hills are your Friend" ---- I'm not convinced!

Master 2055 Santa Clarita | Subject: RE: Team Fall-dippides - November Challenge Ran last night because i felt like it . Did the longer loop and had to keep my wits with the traffic and low visibility , i used a hat with a light on top to help. No mishaps but this loop is better run in the morning with less traffic and better visibility . Got to get some riding in.. |

Regular 60 | Subject: RE: Team Fall-dippides - November Challenge Well gang, I got some good news. I officially graduated from my physical therapy today. Some of you might recall that I sprained my shoulder pretty badly in late June. Through a course of pretty dedicated PT, I'm almost back to normal. [My ability to do shoulder press and overhead weight is less, but I'm still working on it.] The really great thing is that I picked up tri training while being out of commission, and that's stuck with me even when I've been on the "home program". I'm grateful for BT's place in my recovery and for my own stick-to-it-iveness. That said, I managed to get in another swim and strength training session in this morning as a part of my last PT session. Tonight's Water Aerobics when I'll knock out another swim. Woo! R. |
