A suprising observation. I did my first true brick today. Started with an hour on the trainer keeping my cadence between 85-95 then bundled up and did a 3.3 mile run (in 14 degree weather). My legs were really dead. I actually couldn't feel them much at all. But, here is the suprise, my splits were about 9:30 / mile. Which is pretty much average for me. I really thought I was running at about a 10:00 pace. Go figure.
Hope you are all doing great.
Janet Awesome job Janet!! And even more kudos for running in that cold...better woman than I!! Ah, the first bricks are always interesting. Don't worry, it gets better. You do have to be careful to not start off too fast on bricks, especially if you've been keeping a good cadence. Your legs want to keep that up when you start running, and you'll feel slow, but you'll be going much faster than you think. At Ironman, it took a bit for my Garmin to work, and about 1/4 of a mile in it started, and I was at something like 7:30 pace, uh oh! Keeping the steady pace you did today was great!! Nice job! It is cold here--well low 20's this morning, so I trainer rode...weather wimp here. Thankfully the rain stopped though, poured the last couple days! Anyhow, 3 hours of riding is done. House work now, marathon relay tomorrow! |
