hildekq - 2010-01-28 3:28 PM x2 on Jen watching trash TV... was it worth it girl?  Somehow I don't think we could ever call Jen a weenie, she's so consistent!

Glad to hear you are back on the mend, Shawn!!  We really were starting to think you were THAT guy, ha ha!

Heaven forbid!  I never want to be THAT guy!!!

Are you sure there isn't a loophole where we can call her a weenie if she was watching something like the Bachelor?  Tongue out

Have a couple questions about biking shoes.  I got a pair of shoes for XMAS and have been using them for all my rides.  I have noticed that the ends of my toes will get a little numb on my longer rides.  Nothing terrible, just annoying.  Up until now I have just had the insert that came with the shoes and socks (not real thick) on while cycling.  The shoes fit perfectly.  Any recommendations on fixes outside of buying another pair of shoes?

Also, regarding cleats.  I have not really done any adjusting of the cleats.  How much "play" should you have when twisting out of the pedal?  Should there be a little play before clicking out or should they be tight?

Thanks.

You want a little bit of play, but not much.

More importantly is where the cleat is on your foot. You want it on the ball of your foot, line the center of your cleat up with your big toe bone on the inside(whatever it's called). Or move the cleat back. Further back is almost always good, but you will have to make adjustments to fit as you do so. As you move it back you'll need to adjust your seat height as well.

Doing the happy dance because, it's Friday, it's Friday!!!  Big weather change in Texas, tons of rain and temps are dropping into the 30's, supposed to be in the 20's by tomorrow morning.  My swim for today is done, nice and easy 3 mile run this afternoon.  I'll be doing some swim coaching tomorrow morning with a tri newbie, and if the weather isn't too horrible I hope to get a bike in, then long run on Sunday... my longest EVER, in my WHOLE LIFE, 9 miles!  Have a great weekend F+S peeps!

Happy Saturday, Gang.

A suprising observation.  I did my first true brick today.  Started with an hour on the trainer keeping my cadence between 85-95 then bundled up and did a 3.3 mile run (in 14 degree weather).  My legs were really dead.  I actually couldn't feel them much at all.  But, here is the suprise, my splits were about 9:30 / mile.  Which is pretty much average for me.  I really thought I was running at about a 10:00 pace.  Go figure.

Hope you are all doing great.

Awesome job Janet!! And even more kudos for running in that cold...better woman than I!!  Ah, the first bricks are always interesting. Don't worry, it gets better.  You do have to be careful to not start off too fast on bricks, especially if you've been keeping a good cadence. Your legs want to keep that up when you start running, and you'll feel slow, but you'll be going much faster than you think.  At Ironman, it took a bit for my Garmin to work, and about 1/4 of a mile in it started, and I was at something like 7:30 pace, uh oh!  Keeping the steady pace you did today was great!! Nice job!

It is cold here--well low 20's this morning, so I trainer rode...weather wimp here.  Thankfully the rain stopped though, poured the last couple days! Anyhow, 3 hours of riding is done.  House work now, marathon relay tomorrow!

Goodmorning Gang!

Up and at 'em with 1200 in the pool.  The pool has really been crowded these past few weeks.  I'm not sure why.  Now they have removed the lane ropes so more folks can squeeze in.  At times the water is pretty choppy.  I'm reminding myself that its good practice for me to swim in the chop.  Of course it isn't as much fun as having the place to myself!   I've lined up a 1/2 hour lesson in Wednesday during my lunch hour.  The instructor sounded about 12 years old on the phone.  (I guess she is a college student so she is probably a few years older.)  I'll let you know how it works out.

Is anyone game for some sort of February challenge?

Janet

What kind of challenge Janet??  Good for you for getting a swim lesson!  Even if it IS with a 12 year old, ha ha!  I swam on Saturday morning and there was a kiddie swim team working out, those kids were GOOD and FAST!

I'm not good at issuing challenges so I would leave that up to one of the experts in our group.  I just know that I am pretty competitive and love a good challenge.  It just seems like a new month should have some sort of group goal.

So experts:  Issue me/us a challenge!  (I dare you!)

About the only thing I could do on your list is a beer mile (but I don't really know what that is!)

Drink a beer, run a lap(or 1/4 of a mile)
Drink a beer, run another lap
Drink a beer, run another lap
Drink a beer, run one last lap
If you puked, run another lap.

Perhaps a mentor group v. mentor group challenge? Beer mile pace normalized by 5K pace average for entire group, lowest average wins...

LOL I'll be honest I don't know how it will go, I'm no big drinker.

But

I've won eating contests and have put down 6lbs of food in 45 minutes before, so don't underestimate my stomach.
