@ Donto, that video was to much, didn't get a chance to show the hubby yet.  I was planning on the HIM but I haven't signed up for it yet, was waiting till the end of March when the price goes up to see where I was at.  I hear that the swim is in pretty swallow water too.  I hope that it works out I really wanted to do this race.  Thank you again!!

Baowolf - 2010-03-02 10:28 AM My first tri this year will be my first OWS mass start with 2500 people.  I have done them with fewer, like 350, and have done time starts with 250 per wave x 14 waves, but this will be my first full combat start at CDA.

Sharpen those elbows!

You need to train the way they race!!!

I have seen that commercial hundreds of times and i laugh just as hard each time!!

OMG that commercial is AWESOME!!! I'll have to pass that onto my tri buddies!!!

Mommyintraining - 2010-03-03 5:34 AM @ FWsquatch and Donto: Congrats and Great JOB!!!

Ok I'm hoping that March will be a better month for training.  I had some issues with my husband I don't know if he is depressed or what but man he was just hounding me all the time.  Espically if I was doing to displine trainings a day.  Told me that I can't read, or train, or do my crafts...... what gives with that.  He is back to work so know I can "sneak" in two trainings again.  He was really bringing me down.  Its not like I've never ran, or read, or did crafts, none of this is new.  We've been together for 6 years and I've always ran and biked!! Plus I've been sick know with a head cold for a week and a half.  Makes it hard to run when My head is all plugged up and I can't breath.  Brodie doesn't have RSV, thank god and he is pretty much all better, know hopefully I don't give it back to him.  I'm really nervous about signing up for the Tinman b/c I have not been able to make it to a pool.  The tinman is at the end of June and I'm hoping I will have a enough time to get my swimming up to par.  I don't know things just didn't work out the way I wanted them too.

Hope everyone is well and training Hard!!! Have a Great day!!!

I'm sorry! I hope it gets better soon.

I hope everyone is doing well... I will be traveling down to Athens, TX for my first try. It is a sprint that could be interesting if the temps are cold... expecting mid 40s at start... I am not sure what to expect time wise but the key is to just finish right... Well, being slightly type A i have to hope for a sub 1:20 but not sure if that is realistic. We will see. Have a good weekend everyone.James

Oh my gosh what a hard run today.  My run training has not gotten back up to speed after recovering from the marathon, but the family was going to the race, so I decided to race it.  Man the racers are so fast at this race, first place was at a 5:06 pace for the 10 miler, 2nd place was 5:08 pace and ya first 30 ish were sub 6:00:00 pace at a small local event.  I pushed it pretty hard from the get go with every mile above an LT of 175 and maxing at the end with a HR of 185.  I ended up PRing, but only by a couple seconds.  Phew, but I am spent.

WTG Baowolf....  excellent race anytime you PR...

well my first tri went decent.  Ran into some small issues maybe someone can help with.  I got bumped in the swim (imagine that) and ended up swallowing a little water.  Which normally is not a problem, cough a few times and then keep going... However, this time i lost my breath and it seemed to be shallow from that point forward.  Any ideas on what to do should i encounter that again?  I haven't had that issue before... it made the swim very difficult.  The bike and run went fine, but mentally the swim bothered me the entire race.  finished in 1h27 min. ( 1/4 mi. - 14 mi - 5k).  it probably didn't help that my tri suit felt very snug up top.  I will be changing this out for a two piece.  6'3" and broad shoulders probably not the best combo for one piece.  Any tips on the breathing thing would be helpful... oh it also felt like my chest was compressed too much after the water swallow.  Everything is fine and gtg now.

James

Grats on your tri.  I look forward to reading your RR.  Sounds like a tough day, but glad it was a solid effort for you.  Not sure on the breathing, sometimes you can shrug off some water in the lungs and sometimes it impacts you more.

Great race to both of you!

My guess is that you were breathing harder than normal when you sucked in water and you were never able to get it back under control.  Something about lungs full of water inciting a little panic (add a tight neck on your suit and you've got some major breathing issues!)

That would be my guess - my advice would be that with experience you will relax more in the swim and that will take care of it.  What's next?!

I have gotten away with only 2 dreadmill runs this winter so far.  Granted I have done 20 mile runs in the snow, but.... Outside is so much more fun.  I think my dreadmill lies about its speed.

That said, it is 32F and snowing pretty good atm.  60's would be nice about now.  I really need some nice weather to start getting in those long bike rides.

Wow, I've been lazy!  Work has been hectic the last week or so, but that all changes since I met my yearbook deadline (I'm the yearbook adviser for my school).  Now it is time to start kicking my butt into gear.  I'm planning on hitting the pool tomorrow morning early.  I need to get that 2-beat kick down.  Just 6 weeks until my first tri!

Brrr 12 F this am when I got up, snow, roads icy.  Do they sell studded tires for tri bikes?  Still sore from Saturday, blister still sensitive to walk on, should make today's 6 mile run fun.... especially if it doesn't warm up.

I put in 40 minutes of ballence work in the pool lastnight.  Very frustrating activity, lots of water up the nose.  Not sure I accomplished anything, but will try to get in at least another 40 minutes of it this week around workouts.  Kicking on your back, L and R side, etc.  My deadman's float has me on the bottom of the pool, I am a bit of a sinker.  My wife can't sink even if she lets out all of her air.

I want my IM bike to be 1 mph faster this year than last..so I am trying to make all of my bike rides of whatever distance at least 18 mph average.  The drainer can make that a challenge towards the end of the ride as it bleeds away your stamina and speed..... slower.... slower... NO!... yes... trust in meeee.. Resistance is futile....Luke...... give in .....

Balance work now will pay off later!!!

I had one of those drainer rides this afternoon after going outside riding w/ my husband and a neighbor- both are faster than me so I had to work my tail off on all those hills to keep up!  Then kids got home so I got on the drainer and was doing some power intervals - my legs were TIRED and DONE!!  I call those training sessions mental toughness days : )

Hey everyone! After weeks of slacking on bike training, I am now bike commuting, so I am making up for it. However, after my commute I just don't feel like running or swimming, so now I'm slacking on those! Surprised I need to find a happy medium!

Ah, balance - why is it so darn hard to find!!  We are looking at 60's and sunshine for one more day so I'm ditching my run and going out riding again!  I'll be running 3 days in a row (th, fr, sa) now - but I just can't pass up this sunshine after such a cold and dreary winter!!
